Saskatoon Dog Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of abandoned dogs.

Dogs come into our care from a variety of backgrounds, so there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes before becoming available for adoption! Our team of volunteers set up veterinary appointments to ensure our dogs are healthy both physically, mentally, and behaviourally. Once the dog has been deemed healthy, they are placed with a suitable foster family. The foster family provides training and

❗ 🐾 We need your help! 🐾 ❗

Meet Barney — our sweet pup who hasn’t had the chance to just be a “regular puppy.” From a young age, Barney was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia, a condition that causes pain and limits his ability to run, play, and grow like other pups his age. 🐕

To give him a pain-free, playful life, Barney had his first Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery on his right hip on October 17, which was a significant expense. But this surgery is only the beginning—he now needs medications and weekly physiotherapy to help strengthen his leg and rebuild his hip function. Each step of his recovery journey is adding up, and we’re committed to giving him the chance to enjoy a full, happy life. 💕

Looking ahead, he may need another surgery on his other hip, which would increase his medical expenses even further. We need your help to make this possible. Every donation, no matter the size, brings Barney closer to a life free from pain and full of joy. ❗️Help Moto Move Pain-Free! ❗️

Moto, a sweet pup who came into our care in April 2024, has been bravely facing the challenges of bilateral hip dysplasia. Our vets at the University of Saskatchewan have assessed Moto and suggested that he may need surgery—specifically, a femoral head ostectomy (FHO)—to ease his pain and allow him to move more freely. However, we’re working hard in the meantime to improve his quality of life with specialized physical therapy and medication. 🩺

Right now, Moto is in a dedicated physiotherapy program at Bridge City Vet. His weekly treatments include laser therapy and underwater treadmill exercises to strengthen his legs and relieve discomfort, along with daily at-home exercises his foster parent helps him with. Moto is also on pain medications and joint supplements to keep him comfortable while we wait for his recheck in December to see if surgery is necessary.

If Moto does need the FHO surgery, we’re looking at a total cost of around $2,500, plus expenses for follow-up visits, medication, and continued physiotherapy. We’re calling on our community for support to help give Moto the pain-free, active life he deserves! 🐕

✨ Meet Shyla! ✨

Shyla is one of our Supply Coordinators. In this role, she assists our rescue with supplying our dog food and other pet supplies for the dogs in our care!

Fun facts about Shyla:
🐾 She is a business owner & full time Advanced Medical Aesthetician!
🐾 Mom of two kids (11 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter), fur mom to dogs, cats, hairless cats, and Guinea pigs. And wife to a supportive husband who puts up with all of her crazy ideas 🤣❣️
🐾 Fostered with 2 different rescues, but loves the team, support and organization with SDR… so now a lifer with our amazing crew 🐕
🐾 Her goal in life: Try to make a positive impact (even if it’s on one life), and to teach her kids the impact they can make with a good heart and a kind act (even if it’s a positive impact on even 1 little pup); and when you’ve accomplished this… do it again! 🙌

Shyla has been such an amazing light in our rescue. She is always lending a hand to help and we love her so much for it! Thank you for all of the hard work and unconditional love that you give to our rescue! 💓

✨ Meet Sarah! ✨

Sarah is one of the Supply Coordinators for our rescue. In this role, she gets to pick up the donations from our amazing partners and put them together in goodie bags for the dogs in our care. Sarah stores all sorts of items from food to blankets, toys, puzzles, beds, and more!

Fun Facts about Sarah:
🐾 I have 3 dogs and 1 cat.
🐾 Sarah has had about 35 fosters!!!!
🐾 She has fostered for 3 different rescues and found her home here 💗
🐾 Her favorite thing is fostering!
🐾 She also volunteers for St. Johns Ambulance in the therapy dog program with her oldest dog Django.

We want to thank Sarah for not only her hard work in her Supply Coordinator role, but also her loving heart as one of our foster homes. We appreciate you more than you will ever know! 💖

Check out Mavis and her pup, Sunny, enjoying some of the nice weather we've been having ☀️ Back in March, Mavis was taken into the U of S as she appeared quite lethargic and non responsive. Mavis had to have an emergency C-Section and only 2 out of her 6 puppies were able to be revived. Now Mavis and her pups are doing better than ever! Sunny's sister, Stormy, is still being bottlefed in her foster home. These three aren't quite ready for adoption yet but make sure to keep an eye out for their official bios coming soon 🐾

#7 of our 12 Dogs of Christmas is Blake! This handsome guy was brought to us in November after living as a stray. He was a bit shy at first, but he comes out of his shell more & more everyday! Jack is this weeks #FeatureFriday dog, and we can't think of a dog more deserving right now. This sweet boy had a rough start with us. He was feral and terrified of human touch. Shortly after this, Jack was struck by a car resulting in fracturing his two legs and pelvis. With love, time, and patience, Jack has transformed into a friendly and affectionate dog, who will do anything to be near his people! Jack is an example of how amazing and resilient dogs can be 💕 He has been up for adoption for over a month with very little interest. Let's share his story and help him find his forever family!
