Hard to believe that Loki (right) was half the weight of Odin (left) when he was poorly. They are actuallly similar weights now, it’s just that Loki is so fluffy! Both boys are doing well. Bath time and trim next month!

First it was an enourmous abscess that was taking over his abdomen which nearly killed him, requiring anesthetic, ultrasounds, lots of hand feeding and medications over 4 weeks.
Then it was bumblefoot (pressure sores) from struggling to move around during the illness, requiring 2 different creams rubbed in three times a day.
Then it was some sort of parasitic skin infection, possibly picked up from the vet hospital that caused him to scratch and bite his fur out from his upper body, insane itching and making him much more susceptible to cold this time of year. This was treated with more medication but while we wait for his fur to grow back, this is the latest treatment!

I think Loki likes his medicine, he practically eats the syringe every time. I can’t wait to get them back out so I can wash the carpets!

So Loki went back to the vets after a week. He has gained a few grams and looks a lot brighter. The vet had a feel of his abdomen and confirms the abscess is a lot smaller. However, the results from the biopsy shows the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics he is on. So he is now starting a 2 week course of Doxycycline. Odin was glad to have him home again.

Second day of Loki’s treatment and I was at work all day. Christopher stepped up and gave Loki his midday medication and has been working hard to feed him. I think he is looking brighter this evening. Keeping fingers and toes crossed this is good news.

Day 1 after taking Loki to the vet yesterday, assuming he would be put down.
I have spent the day cutting grass with scissors in the back garden, washing it and hand feeding it to him.
I have given him whatever snacks he wants.
I have given him his medication (very much against his will).
I have let he and Odin wander around the hallway all day.
He is already looking so much brighter. He lifts his head now when I stroke him. He has slept a bit but also been really keen to eat. Just weighed him praying that he hasn’t lost any more and he has gained 35g!! I’m over the moon. Still very early days and he has a long way to go but I didn’t even think recovery was going to be possible for him and now I’m daring to hope.

Took Odin to the vets today as he had a hoarse wheek. Now on antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection. The vet things he may have picked up an infection from the local friendly squirrel!

Loki after a brush. Look at those lovely Texel locks! This was a rare cuddle and snap as he loves to climb on absolutely everything and never usually keeps still. Most piggies like to hide but Loki prefers to climb up high on everything. Such a character.

I spent a lot of time clearing out the garage yesterday. Still a lot of work to do today with several skip runs but hopefully we can fit the big hutch inside there to make it safer.

Pepper and Cinnamon have died. Pepper was found dead in his hutch and initially Cinnamon was just missing but due to the range of his fur we know he has gone too. Large bite marks on the tunnel suggest it was a fox. Probably the same fox we saw a couple of weeks ago on camera. We thought their setup was fox proof but foxes are sly and managed to open the latch to get into the hutch. We are devastated. It was hard to bury Pepper today without Cinnamon beside him but he has returned to his old pal Chilli. We are going to invest in new fox proofing and give it a few weeks before we start to look for more piggies.

It’s a wet day so Pepper is enjoying some floor time indoors while I do some housework. He’s quick! We still have Chilli’s bed on the floor which gives Pepper a bit of comfort usually but he’s never wheeked like that before. We will have a new mate for you soon little man

Chilli’s glass rainbow arrived today. Pleased with the outcome and a lovely little memorial to the old man.

Chilli passed away on the 29th. He absolutely loved eating dandilions and I was so glad he lived to the spring and was able to enjoy them again. He passed away with me and Chris abs when I opened the patio door to let out his soul, dandilion seeds flew in. We buried him yesterday with fresh dandilions in his coffin and planted bulbs over his grave to provide colour and joy each year. RIP old man.

Chilli is not well and has been losing weight. Under all that fluff he is quite boney! We have been working hard to get him back to health. One thing is a special meal supplement called critical care. It’s messy, but he wolfs down 2 portions at a time!
