Dogs and cats are often thought as each other's predator.
Dogs chase cats and cats set dogs up for a fight of superiority.

But in reality, they can be good friends with a special animal relationship... The Frenemies.

What does your dog think about cats?

And pet owners with cats... What does your cat think about dogs?

I'm sure they have told you… we’d love to hear too. 👏

I love it when clients tell me about their cat’s success with Pet Tunes Felines… music for cats.😸

This cat arrived into the cattery highly anxious and untouchable for days.

With the introduction of Pet Tunes Feline, it was possible to gentle stroke the cat within 10 minutes of hearing Pet Tunes.

No hissing, scratching or showing reactive behaviour towards being handled by carers at the cattery.

“Truely amazing…”

Opps! There goes another year.

Happy New Year and may 2023 be a wonderful year for you and your dogs and cats too.

Remember on New Year Eve to cuddle and calm your furry friends before the fireworks start.
When the flying sparks go BANG in the dark sky, it may be a glorious sight for you. But for our pets, it's like a terrorist attack coming out of the unknown... a scary experience.

Please keep them safe, sound proofed and calm by preparing a place for them to hide and feel secure.

If you have Pet Tunes music handy, charge your pet's music box up well before the fireworks start lighting up the sky. Remain calm and cuddle your dogs and cats tonight.

Here and we wish you all, especially our Australian and New Zealand friends, a wonderful and safe 2023.

I look forward to catching up and helping as many pets as possible to be calm and feel they're in a better world with music.

Happy Meows and Bows to our four-legged, tail-wagging, face-licking, smooch-cuddling, bright-eyed, furry coated friends.

Opps... just remembered some friends don't have furry coats.

Like our Sphynx Cat supporter group in WA... Love you guys FIP Cats Australia for what you do to help cats overcome the FIP virus.

Happy New Year!

Here’s a photo of the thePetCalmer show stand at the Australian National Cat Show last weekend, before the show opened. Pet Tunes music for felines became an attraction at the event as exhibitors used the music in ther show cages.

Towards the end of the show, I managed to hold and cuddle some of the champions.
Oh what a beautiful purring therapy session it turned into after a busy day talking.

The Power of Music to Calm Your Dogs and Cats.

Janet Marlow, founder and CEO of PetAcoustics, is my business associate who’s responsible for inventing Pet tunes specie-specific music for calming anxiety and storm stress behavior in Dogs and Cats.

The power of music is not only important for our human emotional well-being, our dogs, cats, horses and even birds require their calming music to live a happy, healthy and stress-free lifestyle.

Storms and floods hitting the east coast of Australia over recent months caused unaccountable devastation to people’s homes and communities. Pets also lost what was familiar for them to live a normal life. Familiar places and routines disappeared overnight. Strangers arriving in boats to rescue house owners clutching their animals was a fearful event for pets and animals in flooded areas.

I was watching a news coverage of the floods; I could see fear on dogs' faces as rescue teams carried or bundled them into boats. For pets, what was once normal turned abnormal to terrifying.

Dog and cat stress is real when their environment experiences climatic change.

My dog Ollie comes to me, panting and anxious, at the first sign of dark clouds gathering over the back of Mount Tamborine; miles away to the west from our home.

The first faint sound of cloud rubble, his ears prick up alert to the change in atmospheric pressure. If I’m working at my desk, he comes to sit next to me. Hard pressed to my side his ears, eyes on alert, he listens with his tail tucked tightly under his hindquarters.

Although I hate seeing Ollie stressed, I’m glad he comes to me to express his agitation when a storm is brewing. Then I know it's time to ease his tension before louder thunder noise and lightning arrives.

Thunderstorm noise is distinct from thunder, which is the sound of lightning itself.

Ollie has his own special collar, the Ultra Calmer.

It’s a clip-on dog collar with a music device attached. Switched on, it plays special music to mask out sound frequencies produced by thunderstorm noise.
Ultra Calmer is one of Janet Marlow’s music inventions to help noise phobic dogs calm down during stressful events like Thunder and Fireworks.

This storm season on the Gold Coast, we’ve experienced some of the most violent cracks of thunder. One lightning strike was so loud our house vibrated. In fact, the explosion outside shook all of us, including Ollie.

The collar has made a big difference for Ollie.
He has learnt when the collar is around his neck, he’s in a better place to manage his muscular tension. Ollie is a lean, muscular Staffy Bull Terrier with short hair. Noise stress makes his leg muscles quiver. So I know when he is calming down, his panting and pacing slows to stand still. Muscle quivers become less apparent and relax.

I ‌encourage him by talking in a soft, calm voice.
Sometimes, we sit on his floor mat leaning against a wall. By placing my palm on his shoulder, we both lower our breathing rate to go into a calmer state. This helps Ollie’s confidence to stay in one position and not worry about finding an escape route.
His head lowers either onto my lap or floor to rest. As I talk to him, particularly about politics, he wanders off to sleep.

In previous years before Ollie came to live with me, he was a highly anxious dog suffering severe separation anxiety and noise phobic behaviour. He had a remarkable determination to flee under stress; digging his way out of the backyards, under streel fences and breaking out of closed metal crates.

Since I started using Ultra Calmer and Pet Tunes in his daily routine, I’m happy he’s able to cope with stress while listening to his special dog music.

Pet Tunes and Ultra Calmer calming music products are a ‘Godsend’.
That’s the expression many of my cat clients use to describe their results with their howling cats and Pet Tunes for Felines (Cats).

Cats are prone to environmental stress too.

Although a cat's ear structure is different compared to dogs, Janet designed cat calming music specific for their hearing range.
I’m pleased to hear more Australian cat fanciers are adopting Pet Tunes in their breeding programs for rearing emotionally well behaved kittens.
I believe if Kittens grow in calm environments, they’ll remain in their new homes and avoid re-homing to rescue centres because of behaviour issues.

The work done with Pet Tunes during the past two years during the pandemic has been exciting.

The veterinary science profession is appreciating sound environment behaviour modification as a significant therapy benefit for the management of animal health.
Our science studies with Pet Tunes gained recognition around the world in veterinary profession publications… Woo Who!

With those results together providing better environments for pets to live a healthy stress free life, they are two main reasons I love working with animal behaviour and Janet Marlow’s music.

Now, who wants to talk about politics?...Urrrr… Splat to that idea!

Want to know more or tell of your results with Pet Tunes, leave it in the comments for everyone to see.

Latest News Alert…

Internet Savvy Cats are getting Scammed.

Latest reports on International Cat Media has shown a marked increase of cat scams since the introduction of RAT Test Kits.

It is not known where these scams orignate.
Cyber authorities are investigating current activities in Northern Europe by a Rat Cats Dark World organisation campaigning to end homeless cats.

Winter has hit the Northern Hemesphere with freezing snow falls.

When asked about the scam, RCDW organisation commented to their knowledge, smuggling of homeless cats out of Europe to warmer Southern Hemisphere has increased in recent months.

Although some cats are Feline Covid positive (non-infectious to humans), most homeless cats avoid isolation restrictions by flying un-noticed without Vax certificates.

How are these cats being transported?

No one really knows, except there are reports of unusual sightings of Santa’s Sled flying across the equator at night towards the end of January 2022.

Most scam activity seems to occur in the early hour of the morning under the darkness of a night sky.

Authorities are asking…

If cat owners notice unusual activity on their computer or mobile devices during the early hours of the morning when they’re asleep, please contact your local Missing Cat Bureau to report any cat scans on your device.

Cat scans are easily detected by unusual scratch marks, long screen licking residue or evidence of fur that’s not yours, on the key board.

This News alert is brought to you by our leading late night correspondent at thePetCalmer animal calming news desk.

Cats, cats, and more Kitty Cats are growing up with calmer behavior.

Management of stress and fearful cat behaviour can be an enormous challenge for breeders and new cat owners to help their kitten's re-homing process go smoothly.

Cats dislike change in their environment.
Even young kittens initially find their new home environment scary and may hide for days or weeks.

Several show cat breeders, one being Melissa Neumann of Severo Abyssinian & Somali Cats have found a simple answer to help cats quickly integrate into their new forever-residence without feeling fearful.

Pet Tunes calming music for cats was added to the Severo kitten rearing program.

We played the music to the mother cat before, during and after the kittens were born.

Why is this music different?

Special musical sound frequencies are modified for cat’s hearing to produce a calming listening environment so cats feel safe.
Throughout the rearing and nurture period, kittens are exposed 24/7 to Pet Tunes. They hear sounds that soothe and help shape their temperament to be well balanced. They grow upwith the confidence ‘All is Good’ in life.

The benefits of music modified for the cat's hearing ability are living with low to no stress levels - so important for maintaining good health and feline immunity to diseases.
Aa a result, kittens readily accept car travel and settle into their new home environment free of anxiety on the day they arrive.

Fear free management of cat behaviour has taken a new direction in recent years.
Science studies into cat behaviour show anxiety stress as one of the major contributors towards a feline’s health problem.
Elimination of stress early in their life, gives cats a better opportunity to manage their environmental behaviour later in life.

With a Pet Tunes calming music for felines playing in the background, cat breeders and owners have found kittens and senior cats are happier to co-exist in play and share their daily encounters around the home.
No more hissing and scruff-ups - that’s a relief!

Pet Tunes kitten rearing program, as with Severo Abyssinians kittens, showed raising kittens within a cat centric sound environment aids kittens to grow with well-adjusted temperament behaviour from an early age.

Confirming - Calm Cats are Happy Cats.

Show cats were ready to put on a good show Queensland
cat show last Sunday.

To be a show cat, firstly requires lots of preparation at home well before show day.
Training to be a cool and calm cat is a learned behaviour.
Grooming and knowing how to woo judges into liking you on the judges show stand to gain higher points, is another skill show cats become good at over time.

Experienced cats certainly know when’s the moment to give a gentle purr, friendly paw tap or tail flick to encourage judges to add extra points to their placing in the awards.

Of course it takes practice, and no better time to practice is when admirers pass by their show cage.

I caught some beautiful facial expression from competitive felines on my iPhone while saying Hi.

A Cat staying calm during the show is critical to be in the run for gaining a winning place.

That’s where Pet Tunes music for Felines has helped many show cats manage competition tension, to be really cool for gaining admirers on the day.

Aren’t their facial expressions gorgeous?

Last Sunday thePetCalmer was invited to attend the Flash Felines Cat Show in Brisbane.

And what a hoot of a show it turn out to be.

Thank you Flashy Felines for having thePetCalmer at your show.

This show had a Country and Western theme and fancy dress competition, setting another milestone in my career on the Pet Tunes show stand.

Never before has an inflatable horses galloped, in an almost deflated state, up to the Pet Tunes stand to tell their story using Pet Tunes for Felines.
Strange things are happening in this part of the Australian cat world.

I loved chatting to exhibitors, hearing their encouraging stories with Pet Tunes and taking photos of exhibitor’s creative Country and Western dressed ups.

The theme also extended to exhibiting cat cages... seeing was believing how creative Queensland Cat people are.

The recent Thunderstorms hitting the east coast of Australia have been terrifying for dogs?

I was walking my dogs when thunder started to rumble in the clouds above.

Both OLLIE and COCO felt the air pressure change as they heard the sounds of God moving his furniture. I remember that as my mother’s explanation of thunder to me as a child.

Our dog’s ears are highly sensitive to noise, sound frequencies, and vibrations from loud noise. What they hear acts as a trigger for either fear, stress or to calmly ignore as no concern.

That’s why you will hear us at thePetCalmer say…

“What pets hear matters.”

Thunder and fireworks are sharp, louder sounds to a dog.
A dog’s hearing sensitivity is over two times more compared to humans’ ability.

What dogs hear matters because they have to react to sounds we cannot hear.
An animal’s natural instinct is to listen to its environment and determine how to react…a behaviour to manage their wellbeing.

On my walk, I placed an Ultra Calmer collar on Ollie’s neck to help mask the intensity of the thunder noise. It helped to settle both dogs to walk feeling safer together and yet still be responsive to my commands. Still a bit nervous, but they could manage the situation.

Soft talk goes a long way towards helpingyour dog manage their fear or stress.

Once we returned home, both Ollie and Coco lay calmly in my study with their Ultra Calmers playing. God continued to move his furniture above.

And we waited patiently until he had finished.

To reduce your dogs fear of thunder, the U ltra Calmer is certainly worth a try.
Reducing their anxiety helps you get them into an even better behavioural state.

What’s the difference between Pet Tunes and classical music for your cat?

It’s easy to imagine there’s little difference.
To the human ear, classical music and Pet Tunes may sound similar, only different tunes.

Science tells us that animals hear sounds differently than we do.

The cat’s ability to detect high frequencies and the fainest of sounds is astounding.

You’ve possibly witnessed your cat suddenly sits up alert... Motionless, their nose and ears intently focused in one direction. A distant noise can activate your cat to pay attention and be ready to react if it's a threat.

The science of sound perception, referred to as Psychoacoustics, describes how humans perceive sound and their psychological response.

Cats also have psychological reactions associated with sounds, but their perception process is different from humans.

Most cat’s ears are structured upright, can rotate using complex ear muscles to capture frequency vibrations in their ear... Frequencies we can’t detect.

Percussion frequencies from a loud drum can easily trigger a cat into stress mode. For cats, it means “get ready to flee or... get the hell out of here”.

Resonant vibrations from distant thunder or loud noise naturally trigger most cats to react in defence... their behaviour is determined by…
‘If I hear this, I’ll instinctively do that... fight or flee.

Music to animals is like a language.

Pet Tunes specie-specific music has long sustained tones and harmonies at moderate to low volume.
Cats like consistent calming sounds to maintain a state of relaxation. Relaxation allows their 'be on alert' instinct to have a chance for rest, feel safe, and hold a peaceful behavioural balance with minimal muscular body tension.

Pet Tunes music diverts high and sub-low frequencies that trigger anxious feline behaviour.

Classical music is not moderated for the feline hearing sensitivity.

Classical orchestral pieces consist of strings, wind and percussion instruments.
A wide range of music frequencies, including those cats use as triggers to alert their anxiety stress behaviour.

Percussion sounds tend to warn cats to be prepared for a reaction.

Hearing wind and strings can calm them, but sudden interruptions from percussion vibrations in their ears can pull them in and out of their relaxation zone.

Consistent alert interruptions can't produce sustained periods of calmness for cats. Not the same way as specie-specific modified music provides a consistent sound environment for cats to relax.

That’s the difference.

Pet Tunes allows you to control what your cat hears to be stress free.

Commercial classical music triggers cat behaviour to fluctuate in and out of rest and anxiety.
Unfortunately, you have no control over what music or advertising sounds the radio, TV or music programmers play… other than switch on or off.

For cats, it's important to maintain a consistency in their acoustic environment.
They value consistency, that’s the way cats are built to know what comes next. Maintaining a calm balance is important for their health, psychical longevity, and living the best cat life ever.

Now tell me… What does your cat like to hear?

How do dogs know when the weather is about to change?

Around midday on most days during the week, my dog pack take a break for a walk in the park across the road.

A routine patrol along the edge of the tall grass normally entails sniffs and salutes on anything needing encouragement to grow.
There’s another activity we enjoy, is be still to watch for movement in the undergrowth. Who knows what’s out there?

The wind’s whistling through the she-oaks added an eerie feeling to the landscape. The tall grass stems wave in the wind holding Ollie and Harry’s attention to remain alert.

Ollie and Harry make a good dog team.

Ollie’s a visual observer with keen eye sight for movement.
Harry, with his unusual talent to raise one ear upright while the other is down, gives him an ability to focus like a radar for sounds of movement.

Together they work like pack hunters watching for anything that moves.

The wind above is now blowing in gusts, typical of a tropically rain cell approaching.

There’s a chill on the wind. Both dogs turn around towards the threatening cloud.

Dogs know when the air pressure changes. Their ears are highly sensitive to change in atmospheric pressure and sound vibration. That’s how they know a storm is coming… well before us hoomans do.

If you like this photo or story, tell me why in a comment below.

I thought our park walk produced a unique opportunity to capture and share, my dog crew working as detection dogs.

What is good calming music for dogs and cats?

Back in 1994 Janet Marlow, Classical Jazz musician set out on a mission to find what sound frequencies dogs and cats preferred for relaxation.
She observed during music practice sessions, dogs would wander into her music studio, lay on the floor looking very comfortable listening to her play guitar and musical instruments.

As a passionate dog and cat owner, Janet became curious as what triggered the dog’s behaviour.

Her study measuring hearing sensitivity levels of dogs and cats turned a busy performance career as a musician towards a new pet-centric direction.
Creating music specific for dogs, cats, horses and pet birds developed into new field of animal science, acoustic animal behaviour.

In 1997 Janet released her first dog calming music recording on cassette… some of you may still remember cassette tapes. Those good old days!

Today, Janet Marlow is CEO of Pet Acoustics Inc, inventor of Pet Tunes Specie Specific Music and recognised around the globe for her work combining science and music as a natural calming solution of animal fear behaviours.

Pet Tunes is based on a formula of music frequencies digitally modified for each pet species hearing… music just for dogs another just for cats.

Our dogs and cats have higher hearing sensitivity, up to three times more acute compared to human’s audible range.

Often our pet’s sonic environment is overlooked as a trigger or remedy to resolve anxious behaviour. Environment noise is what our animals ears process to determine a reaction, either to be fearful or feel safe to stay.

Pet Tunes Music…no longer delivered on cassette… comes preloaded on a compact 5 cm speaker cube with a high quality to deliver music frequencies pets need to hear. It’s a convenient size for travelling and most appreciated by veterinary staff when you arrive calm and happy for a clinic checkup.

What is good calming music for our dogs and cats?

Music designed specially for dogs and cats hearing environments, they recognise as a calm safe place to relax and rest.

That’s what Pet Tunes for Dogs and Pet Tunes for Cats is all about.
Creating a place for pets to feel safe and be healthy.

After active play or anxious moments, how do you calm down your dogs to be quite and peaceful?

At the Pet Calmer, we use music.
Not ordinary music off the radio or TV, not even classical music gives our dogs the same calming result we’ve achieved here.

The music you hear on the video is Pet Tunes canine music composed just for dogs.

Poppy, Casey and English Springer Biscuit have been listening to Pet Tunes for less than 20 minutes.
Instead of being dog crazy running around the house, they have gone into a very relaxed state soon after Pet Tunes was turned on.

I place my Pet Tunes speaker on the book shelf, approximately the same height off the floor as the dogs’s ears. That’s the best position for them to hear and trigger them into relaxation.

Bed mats are nearby. Sometimes they choose to lay on their mat or stretch out on the floor. Who cares where they relax… as long as they are happy.

It’s a nice feeling to entry the room with all three content and calm, even when the TV is blaring out bad news in the other room.

If you want to know how to calm your dogs in minutes, check out Pet Tunes or post a question in the comments below for a response.

Cat stress related behaviour can be the most challenging behaviour for new cat owners to resolve.
Especially settling kittens into their new family home.
A change of environment from a litter full of noisey playmates to one of not so familiar sounds, can easily cause adorable little kitties to have very scary experiences... even mature cats suffer environment stress moving from one location to another.

Change does not come easy for cats in new environments.
Yet, a simple change to what your cat hears, can exchange their anxiety and fear into a purring calm Feline and an adorable loving cat.

To change your cat’s stressful behaviour, introduce calming sounds to your cat home environment.
Music designed specifically for felines has proven to be a natural remedy that consistently works for resolving stress related behaviours.

That’s what Pet Tunes calming music for cats is all about.
Making cats calmer, happier, healthier and more adorable.

Want to know how it works, post a question in comments below.😺 🐈🎶

Why am I walking Leo to Calming Dog Music?

Leo is an enthusiastic leash puller. Only 11 months old, his walking behaviour has become challenging.

Leash pulling is an unfortunate, yet a common behavioural problem many new dog owners experience.
Larger dogs breeds with uncontrolled behaviour can be the most challenging to manage. As pups grow, so does their strength.

If your dog’s leash thrusting behaviour is not addressed early, walking your dog becomes ever growing challenge to manage. Often resulting in no walks at all, isolating your dog at home. With a little time, a few guidelines and calming behaviour, dogs like their owners can be trained.

There are solutions for every behaviour. Start now.

Here’s a start to calming your dog.
Pet Tunes is special calming music for the dogs hearing. Just play while walking and once calmness sets in, you start training. The music gains their attention to learn faster from you or your trainer how to behave on walks.

Sunday May 16th will be a good day for exhibitors attending the Regional Queensland Cat Club cat show in Townsville.

Not only will it be exciting for exhibitors, also for The PetCalmer as our first opportunity to participate as a sponsor to this club event.
I wish organisers and our new feline friends a highly successful day competing for the judges recognition.

Show environments can be a challenging environment for new feline exhibitors. Noisey halls, lots of meow chatter and passing admirers can unsettle a young cat’s nerves to induce anxious moments.

The pet Calmer has a solution.
I encourage exhibitors to check out Pet Tunes for Felines.

I’ve sent an info brochures to be available on the event organiser table. Please take a moment to collect a brochure and discover how Pet Tunes works. It’s a natural process backed by years of scientific research.

Good Luck!
I’m sorry that I will not be in Townsville for the day, although I will be available on FB and messanger app to answer questions, queries or respond to exhibitors interest.

Or... you can post a query into the comment section below. Other cat owners may have interest to hear your thoughts and response too.

Happy Meows,
Ron Pia
