Almost Eden Rescue We are a IRS 501(c)3 and California registered nonprofit . #47-1064476 Located in East Kern County.
(40)

Our mission is to reduce the over crowding and euthanizing of adoptable pets in our shelters thru education, spay and neuter, assistance with lost and found animals, plus disaster relief for pets. When pets are not responsibly cared for, when owners do not spay and neuter, and overbreed their animals it results in too many animals and not enough homes. Sadly, these animals are often abused, neglec

ted or killed as a result. Each pet rescued by Almost Eden is spayed, neutered, micro chipped, updated on vaccines and rehabilitated if necessary. Our ultimate goal is to find the loving forever homes these animals need and deserve. Please consider volunteering your time, donating funds or supplies, or sharing our rescue so we can continue to rescue animals in need and giving them the care and support these animals so desperately need…Almost Eden... ⭐️ FOSTER SPOTLIGHT⭐️

In honor of our 10 year anniversary, we’d like to take time to not only highlight the animals we’ve helped, but most importantly, the humans who have made it possible to continue our mission! Fostering saves lives! 💚🐾

Meet Sam, one of our incredibly dedicated, kind, and active foster parents for the rescue dogs. This is Sam’s story & journey with all of the dogs she’s fostered for us. Thank you, Sam, for your love & dedication to the dogs here at Almost Eden Rescue!

“I welcomed my first foster pup, Benson, into my home on June 19, 2023. He was a challenge, but such a loving and playful pup. He was in my care for a little over a month before he went to his forever home. Fostering gave me a purpose better than myself. I had to get up and take him for walks, play with him and all that fun stuff that goes into having another being in the house. My second pup, Hank, came to me in late July. He was recovering from surgery that fixed a large hernia on his backside. He was so pathetic in his cone and shaved backside, but still so sweet and trusting. It only took two weeks before I realized that he wasn’t leaving and this was his home. On August 25th, I got the call that he was officially mine! After Hank had healed up a bit, I got another medical dog, Coco. She was waiting on surgery to remove one of her legs after a bad car accident. Hank was unsure how he liked another dog in the house, but they got along well. Coco was very sweet, loving and playful! After her surgery, she needed care that I couldn’t provide while working full time, so she went to another foster. Where she found her forever home 🥰. I wasn’t able to take another foster until early March 2024, when Cash came home with me. He was such a shy little dog that really didn’t know what to think of affection. With some time and work, he blossomed. He turned into an absolute cuddle monster, with both Hank and myself. He loved to play and run and go for walks. It was amazing to watch this scared little pup morph into a completely different dog that had confidence and loved life!”

Here are a few photos of the pups she’s fostered, all of which have found amazing forever homes, including Hank, who is Sam’s foster fail!

There's a stigma
when it comes to darker colored dogs getting adopted. We don't know why it's a thing. But rescues and shelters see the effects of it daily. It's been proven that dark colored dogs tend to get adopted less. And it's a heartbreaking reality as many dogs lose their lives because of it.

Can you believe that we're seeing that when it comes to our beautiful chocolate trio!!

Hershey, Sally & Bruce are still awaiting their Furever homes.

Bruce is the last of Honeys puppies. He is 16 weeks old small mixed breed boy. We believe chihuahua and some Spaniel mix. He's a sweet calm quite boy, but once he's comfortable, he loves to play and romp and explore and do all the puppy things.

Hershey is a young 1 to 3 years old deep chocolate colored Chihuahua and Pug mix. He is a playful happy go lucky boy. He loves other dogs and all people. He loves to be outside, soaking in the suns rays, playing with the other dogs, and chasing balls. He also enjoys a very good cuddling session and can easily relax and plop down for a good movie and snuggle.

Sally is a sweet girl about 4 to 6 years old. We believe she is a chihuahua dachshund mix, and she is a lowrider of a girl for sure. She loves to be with people. And she is great with other dogs, big and small, great with kids. She is housebroken and crate trianed. She loves to just snuggle up and give and receive lots of affection.

If interested in any of our chocolate trio. Please be sure to message us for more details.

Vendor Spotlight on one of our nonprofits, Almost Eden Rescue. “Almost Eden Rescue (501c3 nonprofit organization), is committed to improving the lives of animals and owners in the Ridgecrest area. By offering a wide range of services for low cost shots and microchips, a pet food pantry that can be utilized, and assistance with spay and neuter services at the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter, our goal is to always keep pets in home; healthy and safe! We also work directly with our local shelter to bring dogs into the rescue and into foster care to find them forever homes, which helps our shelter with the constant issue of overcrowding and constant lack of space.

We love the Friday night Market because it allows us to showcase the wonderful dogs we have up for adoption, and also fundraise for the costs associated with rescue. We love the vendors, the food choices, and the chance to connect with others who are passionate about Ridgecrest & animals!” Almost Eden is incredible and we love having them any time we can!

When this rescue started 10 years ago, the mission was to help the abused, neglected, and discarded dogs in Kern County, CA and wherever else we are needed.
Our mission hasn't been to relieve you of the commitment you made to your dog when you took them in.

People have babies and keep their dogs.
People change careers and keep their dogs.
People's schedules get hectic, and they keep their dogs.
People move and find a way to keep their dogs.
People run into issues with manageable/trainable behavior, AND THEY KEEP THEIR DOGS.
These situations are not unique.

We didn't start this rescue to bail you out. I'm sorry; I know that may sound harsh. And yes, we know there are situations in which people can no longer care for their dogs, and we help with those as much as possible.
But for the love of Dog-- step up for your buddy. Show up for your dog. Show your dog the same passion and commitment you showed them the day you brought them home. They are not disposable!! They are living beings who feel pain, suffering, and abandonment.

Dogs are being euthanized every single day because the shelters do not have space. FRIENDLY. HEALTHY. HAPPY. ADOPTABLE. DOGS.
By the tens of thousands-
EVERY DAY
Your dog is no different from any of the dogs who are losing their lives every day, and if you give up on your dog, it will be next.

💚🐾In anticipation of our TEN year anniversary, let’s talk about the dog that started it all!🐾💚

In 2014, DJ was posted on Facebook for rehoming. His first dad had passed away, and he had been brought here to Trona to live with relatives. At 6.5 years old, DJ had to leave behind his home and all he knew, to a new state with new people. Unfortunately, DJ moved from Oklahoma… and DJ had heart worms. 😭

Heart worm treatments are not only incredibly expensive, but they’re very taxing for the dog, as well as the people caring for the dog; as dogs with heart worms (especially in cases like DJs, his were severe), must be in a calm, quiet, relaxed environment without much excitement while they go through treatment. The relatives would not be able to afford treatment, nor offer the kind of environment needed, and opted to surrender DJ to get the care he would need. Almost Eden Rescue heroes stepped in to help, with a foster home fitting the bill secured, and started researching veterinary care services that could handle a heart worm case like his. Heart worms are very damaging to the lungs, heart, and blood vessels in every dog, which is why prevention is key.

The stars aligned, and a vet from Texas had relocated to Rosamond, which isn’t too far a drive for us here in Ridgecrest! 🤩 Dr. Rich had seen and treated many heartworm cases in Texas, and he worked with DJ’s case for 6 months, completing 3 rounds of treatment, which consisted of spinal infusions at the base of his tail. During this time, his foster family was busy falling in love with this boy, amazed at all he had been through and was still so sweet in spite of it. DJ was often very tired, he napped a lot, but still managed to find energy for a few short distance games of fetch. His body was tired, he was tired, and treatments were tough on him. He wasn’t a young dog, and treatments were grueling. Almost Eden Rescue never waivered or gave up on this boy. We vowed to carry him through, no matter what.

At DJ’s 6 month recheck, he still had a faint positive. A fourth round of treatment was suggested if results were the same the following week. After that appointment, his foster mom took him to PetSmart, bought him everything he set eyes on, and took him home to wait for the next appointment. Miraculously, the remaining heart worms were gone. DJ WAS HEART WORM FREE! 👏👏👏👏

Adoption events came and went, his foster mom took him to several; many people would comment that he was “too old to be adopted.” He had lived a long life and fought many battles, but his spirit was still young, spry, and full of silly antics!

It became clear that DJ (and his foster family) were home. He didn’t need an adoption event, he didn’t need anyone to tell him he was too old, he needed to be loved; exactly as he was, and as such…DJ was a foster failure! DJ lived a very full life of adventures, he enjoyed the lake, going to Home Depot with his dad, but his favorite place to go was to Pony Espresso-Ridgecrest for a pup cup with his mom. He played fetch every single day, and loved to snuggle on the couch for movie nights with his family.

DJ went on to live a long, happy life with his mom, his dad, and his two human siblings to age 12 when his hind legs no longer worked, and his heart and lung damage became too much for him to continue breathing as he was supposed to, the vets had nothing more they could offer for treatment, and gently told his family that his time on earth was limited, and goodbye would come sooner than any of us ever wanted it to.

DJ crossed the Rainbow Bridge with his mom and dad at his side, rubbing his ears telling him he was the best boy, on February 11th, 2021. His ashes remain right above his favorite spot to lay in the house, and he watches over his family; and all of the dogs that come through their door as fosters, preparing for their journey into forever homes just like he had.

DJ is at the heart of all we have done, and all that we continue to do. This boy paved the way for many other beautiful souls that Almost Eden has cared for in the last 10 years. He is our logo, because he is the one who started it all for so many more.

His spirit lives on in every dog we save.

We love you, DJ. 💚🐾

Just our sweet Sally girl enjoying her Saturday morning lounging around.

Sally is a brindle dachshund chihuahua mix. We believe she is about 4 to 6 years of age. She is a short, long girl and about 8" off the ground.

She's a very sweet and extremely affectionate girl. Who just loves people and giving and receiving love. She is a calmer energy dog that just enjoys being part of the human pack. She is not into toys very much, but she enjoys exploring the yard, cuddling, is the BEST snuggle buddy.

She is housebroken, crate trianed, she's great with other dogs both big and small, she loves all people and great with kids too.

Sally has weaned her solo baby, Wonka. And she is now going to be available for her furever home.

If interested, or if you have any questions. Please message our page, and we'll be happy to help.

Team work… Is dream work! We were glad to help our friends at EMAS- Emm and Mal’s Animal Sanctuary yesterday with some much needed items for the underserved and unhoused in Bakersfield, CA, with resources for their animals. Rescue works best when we all work together! 💪🏻🐾💚

Somehow we spent all day at this clinic and none of us managed to get a picture of dogs 🤦‍♀️ But that didn’t stop SNIP Bus-Spay Neuter Imperative Project from performing 5️⃣3️⃣ spay and neuter surgeries today in Oildale! This clinic was sponsored by SOS Dog Rescue - Strength of Shadow & Petco Love! Thank you to EMAS- Emm and Mal’s Animal Sanctuary for providing pet owners with much needed supplies including food, collars, leashes, flea & tick preventative and most importantly our morning coffee 😂🤣. Thank you to Pastor Dave and Church Without Walls 114 Beardsley for giving us a location to help the community. Thank you Angry Barnyard BBQ for the never failing feast for the staff and volunteers… seriously have y’all eaten there yet? 🤔 Thank you to all the pet owners for braving the heat in order to get their pets the care they deserve. See you all next week right back in Oildale!

These precious babies are still in need of their furever homes.

Bruce is the last of Honeys puppies. He is a 12 week old small mixed breed boy. We believe chihuahua and some Spaniel mix. He's a sweet calm quite boy, but once he's comfortable, he loves to play a d romp and explore and do all the puppy things.

Johnny Cash is 9 months old, and we believe he is a dachshund cattle dog mix. He's a short little guy at just 8 to 10 inches off the ground. He is house broken, crate/lead/doggy door trained. And is amazing with other dogs and great with cats. He hikes 6+ miles a week and loves to cuddle and play.

Hershey is a young 1 to 3 years old deep chocolate colored Chihuahua and Pug mix. He is a playful happy go lucky boy. He loves other dogs and all people. He loves to be outside, soaking in the suns rays, playing with the other dogs, and chasing balls. She is housebroken and crate trianed. She loves to just snuggle up and give and receive lots of affection.

Wonka is Sally's baby. He is 7 weeks old and itty bitty baby at just under 2lbs. He is very playful and loves to explore and play. He is very social and loves to follow people and other dogs around. He loves to be held and cuddled. And loves to play with toys. He is not quite ready to leave yet, but we are accepting applications for him!

If you are interested in any of these babies or if you have any questions. Please message us, and we'll be happy to assist.

Our Story

The rescue was inspired by a Ridgecrest lost animal's Facebook group created back in 2012 for the Ridgecrest and surrounding areas. The group was reorganized in 2013 and is now called "Lost Animals in Indian Wells Valley". The Founder opened both that group and "Classifieds for Indian Wells Valley" on Facebook to advertise general stuff. In working these 2 groups and "Ridgecrest Pets" on Facebook, the founder realized a place that found animals could go and wait until their owners claimed them besides the animal shelter was needed. The founder wanted rescues to advertise on her general for sale site and the pets site. She reached out to rescues in Ridgecrest but at the time there was only a cat rescue and they did not do advertising, there was also a rescue in California City but she did not want to advertise in Ridgecrest. There was virtually no other local rescues. Then Yesenia Smith began posting on the classifieds site saying she was moving to Ridgecrest. She had blind dogs, deaf dogs, and dogs that would be killed in most shelters. The Founder began trying to help her and her dogs find a home and then saw the need for awareness for dogs with disabilities and ones needing more help at the shelters.

Soon the founder began fostering for rescues in San Bernardino and California City and brought the first rescue dogs to the community for adoption events. Then it became a matter of educating the locals because many were used to free dogs with no shots or vetting. Instead, with the rescue, the dogs are fully vetted and often have other expenses including training. The costs to the rescue per dog often are easily up to $1000 or more. The adoption fees, however, are around $200. The remainder is made up of donations and personal funds.

In June of 2014 Teresa Servais, Yesenia Smith, and Charlotte Penry began the first official dog rescue in Ridgecrest. We named it Almost Eden Rescue because Eden was a paradise for animals and they lived in harmony with people. In her vision of a perfect world, Teresa thinks that is the way it should be. The rescue is a foster home based, all volunteer, non-profit charity. It is a 501c3 and registered with both the state of California and the federal government. We have rescued 100s of dogs thru the years from certain death, abuse, and neglect.
