The breeders that create meaningful connections that span well beyond the 8-10 weeks a pup is here 💓💓

Hi guys!

Hope all of those pups are continuing to settle in well!

Just a quick PSA as it has been brought to my attention.
1 of our pups the day he was going home ( 24 hours post vet visit where lungs etc. we’re assessed and clear- symptom free) had slight intermittent coughing that caught us off guard. From there we called the treating vet and chatted with her and I shared that phone call with the family that same day as pickup abs 1st sign of symptoms- agreed to monitor and keep Tuesday’s planned appointment w/his new vet as did not present with acute needs. His symptoms did not worsen, just stayed status quo, no discharge, no fever, no lethargy, just a intermittent cough, nice appetite, no vomiting/diarrhea between pickup Saturday and Tuesday. Fast forward to his appointment & they did the full scale work up as the vet was initially concerned for kennel cough, although he didn’t present with all the markers, X-rays showed fluid around lungs but no infection within;final conclusion: virus of some sort, but not kennel cough as did not present that way. doxycycline prescribed to be cautious and has been on the mend! 🐾🐶

Mind you, no other puppies presented with any illness, no puppies nor adult dogs at the time of his first symptoms all the way to today. I did chat with my treating vet in regards to how the heck does a pup acquire such a virus/“cold”… well exposure at the vets was what she leaned towards being we are hermit crabs. (Since we went multiple times for pup concerns with 2 of the 8 and despite all we do, viruses can and do hop from one client/space to another 😷)

Today another family informed me of their pup with similar findings but their vet diagnosed as kennel cough, same thing, work up of X-rays, but this pup had fluid in the lungs). She’s being medicated and being closely monitored with a side of TLC 🥰

My point in sharing is to spread the word as we don’t own a kennel here by any means where we travel to public spaces with our guys, but viruses, no matter what the source are contagious. I do find it odd though that kennel cough is nasty & very deadly across a litter & quickly that the pup today brought to my attention was delayed with onset and the male pup a week and half earlier had his first signs, but more importantly no other pups with symptoms (that I’m aware of!). I know immune systems are different, but my understanding is kennel cough doesn’t discriminate and is nasty… just how odd 🤔!

So I’m spreading the word that if you’ve noticed a slight cough that’s stayed mellow over the course of some time or are just noticing coughing/leathery/fever/poor appetite, bring your pup in to the vet to get checked out & treated and of course let me know 🙂!!!!!!!!
At our home, no adult dog or our frenchies (6-7 mos old) have any signs or symptoms as mentioned above, quite opposite, busy and already cabin fever 😂🤓 but are vaccinated and not puppies. Keep me updated everyone & enjoy those pups! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Meet our pups & their bubbly names to match their personalities🤎🐾🦃🍁

As you can see some are comical, some serious, some stoic, and some naturals when I placed them in a new photo spot… but I’ve got to say they’re all so sweet putting up with my pictures antics!

In order of appearance:
-pink collar: Willow
-teal collar: Kane
-hot pink collar: Blu
-forest green collar: Porter
-yellow collar: Carla
-black collar: Sirius
-silver collar: Charles
-no collar - only silver pup: Hapley

How fun it has been raising these pups and getting to know them and all their little pup ways… the best being watching them grown from ounces old pups to 10 pound plus weim toddlers 🥺🙏🥰

(Excuse the watery appearance of their coats and faces- rainy day in upstate NY) ☔️

Alright, answering all of those Qs from our families!

Q: how do we introduce our new pup to a household that has other animals?

Well there really is truly no one great approach that stands out to me other than what we’ve coached families on and from personal experience. SLOW N’STEADY! I think that just may be the motto for much of a puppies life as far as introductions go as a whole. But, if you feel confident that your current dog or cat is a gentle being that’s a good first start, but even so set boundaries since puppies are still learning the rules of play time and when to turn that mode off when on the receiving end they are over it. I would always start introductions in the most neutral setting of your house/lawn/car, depending on where you pickup and/or bring your other fur members with you or not. I’ve had families bring their dog(s) here where the territory is new and neutral. All pending of course if you want to bring the gang with you or not, being you do have to ride and coexist back home in the car 🚗 😉 So something you as a family will have to gauge on that recommendation..
Leashes on is a great idea. A familiar helper to assist is always a great idea too. Because all puppies are going to for the most part be curious and want to lick and sniff this new family member and their little personalities are for the most pet bubbly and doesn’t take them to claim a new best friend…. So!… be sure to introduce your new pup over frequent, shorter bursts of time, and in an environment that’s low with demands/is neutral. Offer space when you read signs that the adult dog wants some space. Offer 1:1 time with both and then time together. Just like adding a human baby to the gang, include your other fur animals (if it makes sense! Our cat never wanted to be a part of the puppy world until he was like okay I gotta suck it up and deal with this new family member 😜) in the process of daily life and all those extra times you’ll be outside potting your new pup!

Q: what food are the puppies on and your adult dogs?

Purina ProPlan 30/20 formula all life stages (chicken or salmon). Toppers are always added daily, Stella & Chewy Raw Frozen toppers are a favorite, Escorial ot the turkey version! But fresh toppers of lean meat, and sweet potatoes are a fan favorite! When working with our vet they always recommended this dog food to us for general growth, but too for fertility purposes when breeding. We’ve always had great results with it but please do feel free to switch foods if your personal choice. But in doing so, again slow and steady to avoid any GI distress in a small puppy.
They are on dry kibble and have been for the last week so you can serve your pups their food and water separate. Be careful in offering too much water, my experience, pups will drink and drink, bloat right up, be uncomfortable, have loose stool because of it, p*e like a race horse, and no room for their kibble and all the nutrition that has in it. But don’t limit your pups water to such a minimal. How much water you ask? Urine output is clear and not overly frequent. Pups do p*e often given their small bladders and their ability to learn and recall… they’re just so young yet! Keep in mind pups can hold their urine for ~how many months old they are. So key point here to take away… lots of potty breaks!!

Q: Flea & Tick Meds?
We use bravecto for our adult dogs. Please check in with your vet at their first appointment for details on this. Right now ticks are horrid here, but the puppies are too young yet to receive flea & tick until they are 8 weeks old.

Q: what must have’s do you recommend for our puppy?!

A smaller crate to size! Invest now in multiple ones now so you can size up accordingly. Too much space in a crate and puppy will use that space to potty & trust me they are smart! Too small and it’s just uncomfortable for the puppy and stressful. Puppy should be able to stand tall without touching the top and be able to turn itself around with ease. As they age a crate/den space is a comforting. Is safe. Harness, collar, leash. Size Xs or S (I’d buy both sizes right now, size S is historically too big on pups when they leave home with you) XS is just right but not for too long 😉. Something warm to wear, hey they don’t have a long coat and are short haired and it’s getting cold! I usually don’t recommend dressing your weim LOL, but!…. It’s simply cold and their babies and are shivering so much, anything to help is helpful. These guys love warm, fuzzy, stuffy beds! It’s their favorite to cuddle into. Dog treats: Zekes puppy peanut butter for training. Royal Canine for moist food: mother & puppy Mousse as an add in to encourage eating or to entice or if you just want to offer something in addition to stir into their dry kibble- but not too much! No need to get the poos with too much 😉. Raised stainless steel dog bowls.
Chewy toys GALORE! Kong balls are a favorite to freeze dog sage peanut butter in. So many great chewy toys, really all of them are a hit here. I’d stay away from rawhides and antler ears. Just too much GI trouble. Soft cuddly toys to snuggle up against (not the overly stuffy ones because those are toast quick! They make stuffed animals without so much stuffing or no stuffing at all even.

** I do send home a welcome home packet chucked full of supportive training information as well as AKC folders with their puppy program training 🤓

And not mention a lifetime of support ♾ 📚

So soon we get to pass the torch off to our families and what an exciting time!!!! We can’t wait to meet you all! Hang tight for some updated individual pictures 🐾🐶

Just wanted to take the time to share updates on “peanut” now named Willow!

She’s chunked right up and keeps on chugging along so well with her growth… go little girl go!

She’s a beautiful light shade of blue that we haven’t to date yet produced other than her and it compliments her in every way 🐾💕

Queen of the pup pile and she’s earned that title of taking on life with 5 big bros 😉
