Sorry. This is a long post
If you know me, you most likely know the story of Scamp. This love bug was found in northern BC in 2013. He had been hit by a vehicle and left on the side of the road. A wonderful organization called North West Animal Shelter took him in. He was just a baby. Only (I think) 4 months old. At that time he couldn't even walk and no one had any idea how extensive his injuries would be. NWAS did everything they could. But we are in the lower mainland and I thought there might be more options for treatment here. So we asked to have him transferred down to us.
Scamp was the kind of pup that had an unbreakable spirit. He had started to be able to move his legs when he got here and we did acupuncture, tens treatment and massage therapy. And Scamp thrived.
He was still uncoordinated and had little to no control over his bladder or bowels. But he loved everyone and everything. For Scamp, life was just amazing and he lived every day to the fullest.https://fb.watch/nzhD9qXBs-/?mibextid=Nif5oz
I adored Scamp. He took my heart and kept it. And if I could have made him my own I would have. But every rescuer faces this problem. If I kept him I couldn't continue to bring more dogs into the rescue and our home. 💔
And so we found Scamp a family of his own. I told them that he may never be able to fully control his bladder or bowels but they didn't care. I remember them asking if I could hold him for another month so they could remove the carpet in their home and put down lino so it would be easier to clean up after him
Over the years I have had the privilege of visiting Scamp, watching him grow into just an amazing dog.
Today so many hearts broke as Scamp passed with his family by his side. His joyful nature and resilience will always be remembered.
I have wept all day for this dog. And I have wept for his family. The house must seem empty tonight. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers
Rest easy Scamper. You taught so many of us to laugh at life and live big

Today is such a bittersweet day. Many years ago we took in a young mom (Lexi) and all her pups. I personally made many many friends with the adopters of this litter. And over the years I have mourned as those dogs grew older and passed away. Now there are only 3 of this litter left.
Lexi was a wild child and her adopted mom worked so hard to make her life amazing. I was fortunate enough to be a part of this families journey. I watched as Lexi grew older and her family went to all the lengths to continue to make her life as comfortable as possible
Today Lexi is laid to rest. It is truly the end of an era. As we move to closing this charity and make arrangements for the care of the rest of the dogs from WCRR, I realize that I personally have gotten way more then I gave.

Ryo is a very friendly 80 lb, 10 month old Rotti. He is fun and playful and likes humans and other dogs. No kitties please as this guy was not raised with them an has a high prey drive. Ryo sleeps in a crate, pees outside but needs work on his leash skills as his is strong and hasn't learned yet not to pull. He is a little behind on his leash skills as he has been recovering from an injury due to a bear attack and had to be stitched back together. His staple's are out and he is ready to start having some fun. Rottweiler Club of Canada

FOSTER NEEDED!!!

We had the opportunity to meet Venus today and we knew that somewhere in our amazing community of supporters there was a foster home that would be perfect for her. Venus has been in the shelter since MAY and being that she has some separation anxiety - we can only imagine how tough it’s been for her.

Venus is a senior who came to CARE in rough shape. She had injuries to her neck, a torn cruciate that is irreparable, and suffers from arthritis as a result. Despite all this, she is the sweetest girl. We’re looking for a foster spot where she isn’t left alone while we work on addressing her anxiety and with no kids due to her leg soreness. We believe her to be selective with other dogs but she could maybe live with a very chill male. Her energy needs will be on the more low-key side however, she still loves going for walks and playing with toys.

Brutus is looking for a new home. Do to their health issues his owners can no longer care for him. Brutus is 5 yr old
He has lived with stay at home family and used to long walks daily, so no apartments or owners who are away all day.
His owner says he is good with other dogs, no cats as he has never lived with any. Previously, he lived outdoors on a farm. When they first adopted him, they had some issues with resource guarding but that has been dealt with and he is a super affectionate boy. If interested please contact [email protected]

For the last several years, wcrr has arranged to have the supplies for this spay and neuter clinic sent from Victoria to a Northern remote location. We have paid the shipping costs so that CAAT can focus on the all important things.

Meet Fletcher!

This handsome boy arrived at the shelter in need of of TLC. He was anxious and needed reassurance from staff that he was safe and loved. Fletcher has won the hearts of staff with his big, goofy grin and his willingness to trust people again. Due to past trauma, Fletcher has injuries to his trachea and must be walked on a harness rather than a collar to prevent further damage. Fletcher loves to play with and bury his toys and hot dogs are his favorite snack. Fletcher hopes that people will take the time to get to know him and give him a chance to show them all the love he has to give!
