Blomplaas lies halfway between the sea and the Tsitskamma mountains , four kilometers from the N2 highway ( The road is now tarred and Blomplaas lies just 700 meters off the tarred road) Dr Jan and Retha van der Merwe developed the property over a period of time, trying to preserve and relocate indigenous plant life. Plants and shrubs to enhance the name Blomplaas were planted and some endangered species were resettled. Buildings and grounds were planned and developed as not to disturb fynbos and other indigenous plant life. The result that the property is more like a nature garden than a commercial enterprise.
