🍌 The Story of Service Dog Banana 🍌

Banana. This is one incredible dog. Banana (formerly Skye) came to AmericanK9 all the way from Florida with the end goal of becoming a Service Dog for a handler in need. The handler, who resides in Ohio, had specific tasks that would help increase her quality of life and she and her Mom came to AmericanK9 for help.

Over the course of ten (10) weeks, Banana underwent training with Service Dog Trainer Dawna for basic to advanced obedience and then transitioned to her specific Service Dog tasks and Public Access training. Banana learned crowd control, deep pressure therapy and behavior disruptions.

During Banana’s 10 weeks at AmericanK9, every Trainer here fell in love with this dog. Every Trainer also had some sort of hand in her training, to include a whole week of training with Trainer Sarah and Trainer Natalie. The love AmericanK9 has for Banana is unmatched.

Just last week, Service Dog Trainer Dawna drove Banana out to Ohio to meet her family. While in Ohio, Banana and her handler passed the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test, the Urban American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test and the Public Access test all at the Cincinnati Zoo!

Banana is finally an official Service Dog! Congratulations to Banana and her handler and we wish them all the success as they navigate this world together. To say we’ll miss Banana here at AmericanK9 would be the understatement of the century, but we know Banana was destined for bigger things! We love you Banana! Congratulations!
