🎉 Today is 2024 World Veterinary Day! 🐾

The theme is “Veterinarians are essential health workers.” And here's what it means...

We all know the wonderful work vets do to keep our pets and animals healthy. But did you know the profession is also vital for protecting people, society and the planet?

As well as safeguarding our food, veterinarians protect humans from zoonotic diseases (that transfer from animals to humans). They’re also our first and best line of defence against biosecurity threats.

For both people and animals worldwide, they truly are our heroes!

Ever stopped to think why your vet bills are different to your doctor's bills? 💡

Unlike your doctor's visit, vet visits aren't subsidised by the government. Which means your bill needs to cover every bandage, syringe, blood test – and the vet’s time and medical expertise. And that's before you add all the other usual costs of running a business.

This is the 'real' cost of healthcare. It's just that we're not used to seeing it.

So next time you hear someone complain about a vet bill, politely explain this point. Help spread the word and become a champion for hardworking veterinary teams everywhere!

When we go to the vets, we usually only see the clinic's reception and a consult room. And maybe don't realise there's a fully-equipped hospital that lies beyond those doors - with surgical suites, diagnostic labs, and super-expensive medical equipment. And it's all there to provide the best possible care for our pets ❤️

Your vet is a true professional, but they’re also human. You never know what they’ve dealt with prior to your appointment – maybe they’ve had to euthanise a patient and comfort a grieving owner.

Most vet clinics are very busy with a packed day of appointments scheduled. If you can’t make your appointment for some reason, that’s okay, but don’t be a ‘no-show’. Let your vet clinic know as soon as possible, so they can offer your slot to another patient.
