🚨‼️The Vaginal Prolapse 🚨‼️

Step 1: pain meds for mama (IV banamine)
Step 2: epidural anesthesia (lidocaine, epinephrine, +|- torb
Step 3: clean 🧽 🧼 thoroughly (Betadine and warm water 💦 or sterile saline
Step 4: Replace tissues with gentle manipulation
Step 5: buhner stitch 🪡
Step 6: Cull post-weaning: vaginal prolapses are genetically heritable (the Brahma and Hereford are over represented) and are inevitable to return with subsequent pregnancy/birth. Owners should be advised to cull.

In this case we went ahead and tubed baby colostrum to ensure the best success given a rough start.

Step 4: gently replace the tissues: easier said than done! Lots of tips and tricks here! In the down cow I use the frog leg technique and elevate the uterus. Reduce the swelling and allowing gravity to assist
Step 5: buhner stitch
Step 6: let her enjoy her new calf 🐮🐄❤️

Welcome our Veterinary Technician Gracen Joyner 💕

Gracen has always had a love ❤️ of animals and nature for as long as she can remember. She was blessed with a very loving, patient family who catered to her interest by allowing her to bring home a wide variety of animals and supported her throughout her schooling to become a Veterinary Technician. Gracen graduated Tech school in May 2024.

Gracen and her fiancé, Eli, currently have:
🦮 a yellow Labrador Retriever: Brinley
Two ✌🏻Tortishell cats: Bella and Nancy
🐈orange Tabby cat: Tonto
A Russian blue cat: Jack
Two sassy American miniature horses: Golden Chip and Caramel 🐴🐴
and an American Quarter horse, Reno. 🐎

Whenever given the opportunity you can find her outside with her animals, Hiking with her sister or fiancé, searching for treasures at a thirft store, or in any available body of water.

What’s that?!

WinterSage came to us for a diagnostic gastroscope procedure, but Dr. Kiser found something very strange on exam!

Sometimes we have to be creative in vet med… and here at NC Mobile Vet we are all about teamwork!!

Dr. Swift joined Dr. Kiser in figuring out how to get a good sample from the mass underneath WinterSage’s epiglottis… The mass is very soft and stretchy like a deflated balloon, making it very difficult to detach tissue with our biopsy tool.

You can see in the video how Dr. Bonnie had to use swift movements to grab samples from the mass.

Thankfully WinterSage’s GI ulcers have resolved, and now we wait for pathology results on the mass!!

Charlotte will be assisting Stacey with our Client communications ❤️✊🏼

Charlotte has been an avid hunter/jumper rider and lover of all animals, especially homeless ones, since she was 6. Her home was always filled with a menagerie of rescued cats and dogs, and she was always “looking for a home”. During her teenage years, she was a working student and rider for several local show barns. After graduating from East Carolina University with a Business Degree, Charlotte began her professional career in 2020 as manager/trainer of Idlewild Farm in Zebulon, North Carolina. Charlotte started working for NC Mobile Vet in March, managing client communications and helping in the office.

Charlotte understands how it feels to be on the other side of the phone making an emergency call or having more than one conversation with the vet. She knows the importance of having a trusted vet that you can count on. She has certainly had her share of emergency calls with her own animals. Her compassion and attention to detail will play a vital role in her position here at NCMV!

Charlotte lives on a farm in Zebulon with her 3 dogs, 3 cats, and warmblood mare, Cricket. She loves listening to music, painting, taking the boat out, and really anything outdoors.

Daisy 🌼 the precious 14yo grade pony was diagnosed with a fungal plaque in her left eye.

Fungal ulcers, commonly referred to as fungal/mycotic keratitis, is an ocular disease process in which the cornea becomes infected by fungal organisms. It can rapidly progress and has the potential to cause loss of vision or loss of the entire eye 👁️

Hello 👋 subpalpebral lavage (SPL)!!!

6X daily treatment with ofloxacin, voriconazole, and natamycin in the beginning.
Along with atropine, Banamine, and GastroGard treatments.

Can you say commitment! 🥹

Through aggressive treatment and most of all COMMITMENT from amazing owners who put in the work and exhausting schedule, Daisy’s eye is now functional and happy ❤️

A huge win for all! Daisy’s precious girl Maggie is so happy to be able to ride again after treatment and recovery ❤️‍🩹 🐎

Our team had a great day gelding three equids the other day! Some of our favorite clients make for a fun day of castrations!

Dr. Bonnie showed soon to be Dr. Sarah what it takes to master the art of castration, and we touched on the importance of making sure the testicle is a testicle before clamping…thank you Kodiak for the unique testicle!

1: Foals should stand within one hour after birth

2: Foals should successfully nurse by two hours!

3: Mares should pass fetal membranes (placenta) within three hours of delivery

And cheers 🥂 to passing the entire placenta

‼️‼️‼️Your vet or experienced person should evaluate the placenta to ensure it’s all intact. Retained placentas are life threatening. Swipe to see the joy of finally getting it all out 🤣🤣🤣 hallelujah

Have a “new foal veterinary exam” < 24 hours after birth. This is very important to ensure transfer of antibodies (IgG snap test). If The result is greater than 800 mg/dl the foal has received sufficient colostrum 🐴❤️💪🏼

For the past two weeks, we had the pleasure of having NC State CVM student Chalise Brown ride along with us!

Chalise is in her final semester, and will graduate with her DVM in the next couple of months. Chalise will be serving our country as she heads off to be a veterinarian in the Army. Thank you for your service, Chalise!

Chalise brought positivity, laughter, and a will to learn to every appointment. From hog houses to hobby farms, she was a force to be reckoned with as she was thrown into emergency C-sections, equine dentals, last minute goat castrations, epididymectomies, equine euthanasia, routine vaccinations, blood draws, scour-y calves, and goat horn trimming.

We can’t wait to hear about all you do during your time serving in the Army, and look forward to working with you again!

“Latros Steer” was one of Jerry Hamill’s favorites because of his amazing matching hearts on either side. Definitely a gift from God! During Jerry’s battle with cancer, looking out at this steer was uplifting.
Latros stands for “love always, through rain or shine” which remains the name of the Hamill’s farm. Jerry Hamill was a wonderful client, incredible farmer and friend to many. Most people knew Jerry as the “Cotton King.”Cool stuff right there! He is sorely missed by all!

We KNOW y'all know that EYES ARE AN EMERGENCY. Sometimes, even with the best efforts.... we lose. This wonderful patient had an advanced infection in her right eye that was painful and not responding to treatment. After weeks of aggressive medicating, an enucleation (surgery to remove the eyeball) was elected. This mare wasn't visual in the right eye anyway because of the advanced infection, so we took away her pain and now she is a happy one-eyed camper! Enucleations require minimal after care, so the patient feels much better immediately. One-eyed horses can do pretty much anything two-eyed horses can, so we don't expect this girl to ever look back. You can see why we took the eye out 🤢 and how happy she is 2 weeks later.
