Loss… “the act or fact of being unable to keep or maintain something or someone.”💔Why is it so impactful on our lives? Why does it cut deep, leave scars and hurt so bad?🖤Well…because it’s scary as hell. We as humans like to think we can control everything in our lives. Our coffees, the school our kids go to, the friends we pick, the churches we select and on and on. ❤️‍🩹When we lose something or someone, it rips back the curtain on our lives to show we are in fact not the ones in control. There seems to be a lot of loss lately in the world. The devastating loss of homes in California, the loss of people we loved and pets we cared for, the loss of lives from recent plane crashes, the loss of certainty with our world leaders consistently changing their rhetoric based on who’s in charge. It’s so much. I’ve learned that with loss though, comes hope and a new focus. With heartbreak, a reset takes form and the things that are most important in life our brought into the forefront of our lives. Family. Friends. Memory making outings. People call each other more. They cry with each other more. Walls are broken down. People start making plans for a more meaningful life. This is the beauty I witness, that rises from the ashes. We wake up and do better. One of my most favorite flower quotes is from Audrey Hepburn and it’s “To plant a garden is to dream of tomorrow.” Just like flowers, beautiful things take time to grow. Small intentional choices everyday can remake something beautiful and pull focus to the good things. When the foundation is good, regrets are less, memories are made and life is more beautiful. Loss unfortunately is an unavoidable but the living takes place in the small beautiful moments so remember to take advantage of them. Plant your intentional “life gardens”.
