We're now almost a week away from the fireworks season. I'm wondering if you'd like to share, good or bad, things you learned about your dog.
Maybe you tried something new.
Maybe you were surprised by something you weren't expecting.
This will remain a judgement free, safe space to share. Each pet and family is individual and what works for some may not work for others so be kind in this space please.
Show me something pretty that makes you happy every time you look at it!
These are flowers from my yard, they make me so happy.
Reminder about this symposium that I'll be speaking at. Are you registered?
If you are not local and interested in attending, reach out to me as I'm looking into a Zoom option.
Today is World Chocolate Day! I mean, I love me some chocolate but maybe it would be good to talk about dangerous foods, including chocolate of course.
Fry came for a visit last week and we loved every second of it. I love when family and friends can visit and bring their dogs with them!! How fun is that??? Who else has family that comes into town with their dog to stay with you?
Local pet professionals and professionals from afar. Are you in?
We interrupt this Tuesday morning with bubbles and joy!
GPS dog tracking devices, a great option for some!

My daughter got a dog of her very own!!
This morning we spent 5 minutes teaching him the amazingness that is Puller Rings!
Link her to purchase: https://amzn.to/4clgwUj
In those 5 minutes he learned to:
1. retrieve a new item that felt different (normally he only retrieves soft objects)
2. let go of the object happily. He was showing stress signs like whale eye, ear dropping and running away with his item prior to this.
3. “Ready” means drop the object and get ready because I’m going to throw one exactly like it.
Bonus content: Ellie’s “get it” which she’s perfected when ping pongs head over the edge. She’s an automatic ball return! 😂
Check it out friends!
So excited to be a part of this project!
IF I created a virtual attendance option for out of town guests, who would be interested in attending? Same price point as in person attendance.
Thank you to Canine Body & Mind, for the generous invitation to join this talented speaker lineup of veterinary and training professionals.

Be sure your dog is wearing identification at all times!
Get a sharpie and write it on their collar!
Get a tag made quickly at a petstore.
Get one of these but do something because those that say "my dog has never......" always end up having their dog do just that!

It's 4th of July week....here are my truth bombs. Listen to me or don't, I'm not the boss of you.
1. If your dog trembles, salivates, hides, panics, barks, howls, whines, paces, startles and/or refuses to go outside for normal bathroom habits.......you could show them you love them by seeking out help from their veterinarian this year. Stop thinking it will be different this year, it won't.
2. Put their identification tags on them. Go ahead, I'll wait. Use a Sharpie if you have to. Staple a piece of paper to the collar, something, anything.
3. Stop taking random advice from random people on the internet and not actual pet professionals that are trying their hardest to get you to listen. No CBD doesn't work. No lavender oils aren't some magic cure your vet is hiding from you so they can take more of your money.
I've tried for a lot of years to share important information for your pet for the 4th of July. Sometimes people share the information but mostly people ignore the advice both for their own pets and those in their community. Be kind!!! If you have never had a firework phobic dog you don't understand. If you have a firework phobic dog, do the right thing this year and seek help. They shouldn't have to just deal with it, they deserve better than that.
Happy 4th,
Neika
Would a yard sign help you and your dog?
I'm happy to give you 1 FREE while supplies last!
Text me at 574-220-6487 and I'll leave one outside for you to swing by and pick up.
We're all trying to reach out so we don't have to see you the posts that come once the fireworks begin. Please listen and share some of the information we are inundating your newsfeed with.
Another reminder!
I can’t tell you how many calls veterinary professionals get once this season gets started. I don’t even mean during business hours.
I can’t tell you how many people come to Facebook to get horrendous, harmful and downright dangerous advice from random people.
This season is exhausting for pets that struggle with fireworks AND can be recalling challenging for your veterinary professional friend, family and acquaintances. Because we truly love animals we will help them…during our own party, during our vacation, during our only day off that week, when we are tired and even when you tell us you knew this was a problem but you thought you could manage it.
Please please please…..do the compassionate thing for your pet and call for help today!
Morning friends!!!
Be kind to your neighbors, wildlife and friends.
I was featured by my hometown Bremen Chamber of Commerce and I wrote a bit about thunderstorms and fireworks. Might find some helpful information here if your pup struggles.
This week we are highlighting Vet Tech Coach as our Chamber business of the week! Owner and trainer, Neika Smessaert, provided us with some tips/tricks/information to help you and your pets as firework season approaches. Contact Vet Tech Coach for all of your dog training needs!
We're lucky to have them as a member! Thank you for sharing such valuable information with us!
