I’m absolutely heartbroken to share that we had to make the decision to let Scout go yesterday. His surgeon called us from the OR with the devastating news that instead of a band of residual tissue, it was his aorta that was wrapped around and strangulating his esophagus. The aorta is the main artery that feeds the body, so cutting it to free the esophagus was not an option. With a lot of tears, we made the gut wrenching decision to peacefully let him go. This wasn’t the outcome we expected, and our grief is heavy. He was the sweetest little boy, and we will always carry him with us in our hearts. RIP Scout, you were so loved by so many. Even the littlest soul can have a big impact. 💔

Dog is a 50lbs, 2 yr old pittie mix. She was hit by a car and left for dead. She has a fractured skull and a broken femur. The skull should heal on its own, and she’s neurologically appropriate. Her leg needs to be amputated. We are unable to cat/dog test at this time due to her medical issues. She has been friendly and affectionate with shelter staff despite her pain. ❤️

While we got amazing news about Brody’s heart, we sadly got very bad news about Persimmon/Persi’s heart. He has a severe case of pulmonic stenosis, where the pulmonic artery is significantly narrowed. This causes the heart to work harder, leading to high cardiac pressures and eventually heart failure. Additionally, because he’s all of 2lbs, he’s too small for the traditional ballooning procedure, as the wire won’t fit inside his little vessels. Since his case is so severe and he already has cardiac changes, we don’t have the luxury of waiting till he’s bigger, as the risk of acute death is high without any surgical intervention. So, the cardiologist is going to do another procedure where they go in through the pulmonic artery in the heart and manually break down the stricture with itty bitty forceps. This is a high risk procedure, but there is a potential high reward. We’re all in on giving this little dude the best chance at a normal life, so his procedure is scheduled for Sept. 27th. Until then, he is on exercise restriction and heart supportive meds, but he is being spoiled rotten and allowed to quietly play. The best part is, Persi has no idea he’s different than other pups, so he’s still the happiest little dude!
His foster mom is a veterinary nurse at the specialty clinic we use, so he’s in the best hands possible! She has also decided he’s already a permanent member of the family no matter what happens, so Persi is HOME where he is happy as can be and OH so loved! 🩵🩵

BB loves her amazing rehab team!! Today they had her try the water treadmill for the first time and she did great; going 7 whole minutes! This will help her continue to build strength in her front legs with minimal impact and stress on her joints. If you look closely, you can see her wonky left front leg flexing abnormally at her wrist. We’re continuing to work hard behind the scenes on all our fundraising projects so we can get her second (and hopefully last!) corrective orthopedic surgery on the books.

The medical team at our veterinary hospital is amazing! Not only have they taken great care of our pups, but they made this adorable video to help us find foster homes for them too! 💕
Both babies have been symptom free for over 4 days now, and have been given the all clear to leave the hospital! The only problem is…. we have nowhere for them to go. So now they sit in medical boarding, which costs us $70/day for both babies. 😩
We’ve decided to name these guys Barnum and Bailey, since our rescue life is currently a circus. 🤪🎪 Barnum is the boy (Barney to his friends!), and Bailey is the girl.
If you can help by fostering one of these guys, please reach out! We do not want them to go together, as they need to focus on training and learning independence. They’re typical puppies; silly, sweet, full of energy, ready to give lots of kisses, and sometimes a little naughty. They’re approx. 12 week old husky/pit bull mixes, and weigh around 17lbs.
The rescue will provide all necessary supplies, we just ask that you help transport to/from vet appointments if needed.

Mr. Dirt had his recheck on the 5th, and has made dramatic improvements! His doctor was so pleased with his progress, and several of the veterinary nurses fussed over how handsome he’s getting. 😇 His fur is starting to grow back, and his skin is clearing up. He’s also gained a whole pound, bringing him up to a whopping 3.4 lbs, lol! He’s a little crusty yet on his head/ears, so he’s still technically contagious, and will need a minimum of 2 weeks of ongoing treatment past the resolution of these signs. So, we still have a ways to go. BUT it’s so exciting to see him finally getting better and turning into the cute and fuzzy little grouch-face we always knew was there beneath the ick. 💙💙 We can’t wait to be able to smooch him and properly love on him!
Fundraiser update!!! We currently sit at $5,200 all in for BB’s surgery! You guys are rock stars! We’re so grateful for the love, shares, support, and donations! We’re SO CLOSE! The estimate from the orthopedic specialist to repair her legs is $6,500-7,500. We’re really hoping to reach this goal soon so we can schedule her surgery before the end of the year. 🤞🏻
