Our pocket sized moo cow Sally Stitches is making great progress with her manners! She was a bit of a heathen when she first arrived, lol, but has proven to be extremely smart once focused! With the help of our friends @threetreecanine, her foster mom has done an amazing job working with her and figuring out the best ways to communicate to navigate around Sally’s lack of vision. She’s mastered leash walking, sit, down, wait, and is making steady progress with kennel and house training! She’s scheduled to be spayed and to have her painful right eye removed at the end of the month. She’ll be looking for her forever family once recovered!! I’m absolutely heartbroken to share that we had to make the decision to let Scout go yesterday. His surgeon called us from the OR with the devastating news that instead of a band of residual tissue, it was his aorta that was wrapped around and strangulating his esophagus. The aorta is the main artery that feeds the body, so cutting it to free the esophagus was not an option. With a lot of tears, we made the gut wrenching decision to peacefully let him go. This wasn’t the outcome we expected, and our grief is heavy. He was the sweetest little boy, and we will always carry him with us in our hearts. RIP Scout, you were so loved by so many. Even the littlest soul can have a big impact. 💔

Dog is a 50lbs, 2 yr old pittie mix. She was hit by a car and left for dead. She has a fractured skull and a broken femur. The skull should heal on its own, and she’s neurologically appropriate. Her leg needs to be amputated. We are unable to cat/dog test at this time due to her medical issues. She has been friendly and affectionate with shelter staff despite her pain. ❤️

While we got amazing news about Brody’s heart, we sadly got very bad news about Persimmon/Persi’s heart. He has a severe case of pulmonic stenosis, where the pulmonic artery is significantly narrowed. This causes the heart to work harder, leading to high cardiac pressures and eventually heart failure. Additionally, because he’s all of 2lbs, he’s too small for the traditional ballooning procedure, as the wire won’t fit inside his little vessels. Since his case is so severe and he already has cardiac changes, we don’t have the luxury of waiting till he’s bigger, as the risk of acute death is high without any surgical intervention. So, the cardiologist is going to do another procedure where they go in through the pulmonic artery in the heart and manually break down the stricture with itty bitty forceps. This is a high risk procedure, but there is a potential high reward. We’re all in on giving this little dude the best chance at a normal life, so his procedure is scheduled for Sept. 27th. Until then, he is on exercise restriction and heart supportive meds, but he is being spoiled rotten and allowed to quietly play. The best part is, Persi has no idea he’s different than other pups, so he’s still the happiest little dude!
His foster mom is a veterinary nurse at the specialty clinic we use, so he’s in the best hands possible! She has also decided he’s already a permanent member of the family no matter what happens, so Persi is HOME where he is happy as can be and OH so loved! 🩵🩵
