Happy National Egg Day! In celebration, I'm posting a picture of our very first backyard flock of chickens from back in 2009, when we first moved to the PNW! This is where our love of chickens and the joy of collecting and eating fresh eggs began, and led us to where we are today. We've gone from 4 chickens to 270! 🤯❤️

This year you can find us at the Stoneboat Farm CSA pickup every Tuesday and Wednesday! We're so excited to be offering our pasture raised chicken and duck eggs alongside so many other amazing vendors! The CSA starts this week and goes all the way through October. A wonderful place to get everything you need to feed your family and support your local farmer or small business!

This week we've been busy adding more chickens and building more chicken coops! Our coops and fencing are all light weight and portable. We do not have a tractor so everything must be moved by hand! We move our fencing around our pasture every week and have 7 coops that we move within the fence daily. The nest boxes where the eggs are laid are separate and also mobile. When the chickens sleep, they fertilize the ground underneath them. When they are awake, they peck and scratch within the large fenced in area and continue to fertilize the ground. The chickens are always on fresh clean ground with plenty of grass and bugs to eat and our pasture doesn't get destroyed since they don't stay in one spot for too long. Keeping everything mobile is a win win! We've trialed a few different coop designs and are finding this is really working for us!

What a difference 2 months makes! We've been raising 120 baby chicks this Summer. Our current laying flock will be retiring soon and these chickens will assume the role of egg laying at Crooked Roost Farm.

Egg production is starting to pick back up! ✨ $6 per dozen (no longer 2/$10) as our feed costs have gone up twice since we started selling eggs. We continue to feed our chickens a very high quality feed that is corn, soy, and GMO free!! In the Spring, Summer, and Fall we rotate our flock on pasture. In the Winter they have access to our greenhouse for warmth and are given nutritious treats and kitchen scraps. These aren't your average eggs folks. 😉 Feel free to send me a direct message if you would like some! They go fast!! 💖
