You never really see me post about birds for sale because I kinda have an attachment to the progenies that I produce. Deep inside I always want all the progenies to have a good home one day and that they will be given lots of space to fly and be a bird.

Thankfully, Mr. And Mrs. Alba's 3rd clutch baby is now reserved to a lovely couple who only wish to see this baby thrive and be the best bird it can be.

For now this lil one will remain in my care until it is fully weaned and socially ready to interact with humans.

I haven't been training Iggy for awhile now. So when I tried to do some basic recall, I noticed that he would only actively recall when it's a short distant flight.

Upon checking his weight, he is over a kilogram! Back when he was actively flying he was only 1050g and that was when he had something in his crop.

Similar to humans, parrots with a fitter body will be more "athletic" when their diet is managed and when they get enough exercise.

Aside from Psittacines I have been adding to my flock in our farm.

This is a Golden Buff Orpington chicken. Arguably one of the most beautiful chickens in our farm. The photo doesnt show it be this is one massive chicken.

Their feathers really do stand out especially when directly under the sun.

This big boy used to be locked up in a coop all day. Hopefully he will enjoy the vast land he can explore and forage in the whole day.

Whenever I add a member to my flock, I usually plan months ahead. In fact, Iggy was planned half a year before I got him.

However, this month I had a strong pull to look into adding a bird to my flock once more. Around this month 4 years ago, Alpha came into my life.

Tomorrow, I welcome this little one into the family.

Care to guess what bird this is?

Losing Alpha and Omega to an infection was one of the worst things that happened this year.

There's always that dark feeling of self-loathing that I couldn't shake off for awhile. I carried on with life and just tried my best to act like everything was okay.

Because Birds of Cebu as a page, was tied strongly to them, I began avoiding this social media handle. It hurt to be reminded of my loss.

But the truth is the advocacy of Birds of Cebu to continue sharing about aviculture, avian behaviorism, and avian companionship is as close to my heart as Alpha and Omega were.

So I want to dedicate the work that I do here to my Alpha and Omega. The most beautiful Vosmaeri eclectus parrots I have ever met in my life.

Life goes on. Iggy and I will continue with the journey.

9 days later, Omega has taken his last dose of the treatment.

He also got what Alpha had, a Protozoan infection. Thankfully I was able to treat him where the infection was still early stage. In fact, I already isolated him when I noticed Alpha was sick even if he looked perfectly healthy. Just 2 days later his p**p started to change and I immediately began treatment.

This is him sunbathing because we don't get too much sunny days the last 2 weeks. Eckies are sun birds, direct sun exposure is very important.

He no longer has any symptoms but he is still underweight. Supplementing him with formula feeding and hopefully in a few weeks he can fly again.

Stay strong Omega!

When I built the Birds of Cebu page and channel, it was my objective to help other aviculturists learn more about how to give their birds the best life possible with what resources they have.

It has been a few days since Alpha passed away. Silently I have been mourning and only now have I found the strength to share what happened.

The cold weather in Cebu has been drastic. While I was in Manila to attend to important family affairs, Alpha already got sick but was not noticed by our caretaker because she hid it well. About 4 days later I come home to see her eye swollen, weak grip, empty crop, and very light body. I've observed this before with another bird.

The final symptom I observed was the bright green f***s with some blood.

Since we do not have avian vets in Cebu, I turned to my mentor, the one who actually gave Alpha to me. He told me it is likely a respiratory infection. I tried to start her on medication and forced feeding but it was too late.

One day later, I sat beside her as she took her last breath. I lost my favorite of the flock.

To everyone please weigh your birds regularly, double check their droppings, and especially those in Cebu, bring your birds indoors at night if you have no way of protecting them from the cold.

Alpha was more than just a "collection" to me. I handfed her at 3 days old because her mother rejected her. She was a fighter and she reminded me that you can challenge the norms and be greater than what others expect of you.

Her loss left a hole in my heart in a way no other animal companion in my past has done. She was my avian queen.

Fly free and forever my love.

Birds of CEBU would like to remind everyone that we do not have birds for sale. In the event that we produce any progeny, only then I will announce if they are available.

We can help you learn of reputable breeders but we DO NOT earn commission from these breeders and we only refer them on the basis of our belief and trust in them.

We also DO NOT support illegal trade of wildlife ESPECIALLY endemic, threatened, or endangered species such as mynahs, blue naped parrots, colasisi, crested mynahs (martines)

Cheers, Happy new year

STEP UP - a vital foundation for all bird keepers

Even if you don't train your birds for free flight, having them to step up can make the difference between retrieval and completely losing the bird.

Pili got out of his cage during the peak of typhoon and I thought I lost him forever. In the morning after I found out that this smart bird took shelter in a bush and called out to me when he heard my voice!

The only problem was that Pili is not recall trained. The only thing he knows is step up. That was more than enough to get him to step up and I led him right into his cage which he willingly entered. He made a lot of happy sounds right after cuz he was reunited with the rest of the flock.

Lesson? Learn step up!!
