𝑻𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓: 𝑨 𝑲𝒆𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝒊𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈

By understanding and practicing the concept of turning from the center, riders can significantly improve their horsemanship skills and build a stronger partnership with their horse.

What's the ONE thing holding you or your horse back at the moment? For me, it's keeping shoes on the Thoroughbred and having time and the weather on my side!

Once I'm able to get on board, I love hacking more than anything I would say and going for some good zoomies on the hacking tracks around the farm I livery on.

However, while the weather is rubbish and the dark nights are depressing, I'm working on other things to add to my knowledge base. I'm doing online training and watching webinars to improve my skills and give me the tools to pass on top tips and training techniques to my riders. Some of this is called CPD - continual professional development, which keeps me up-to-date and relevant with my coaching and is an essential requirement for the BHS APC registration I have.

If there is anything I can help you with your riding, let me know?

I coach on Saturday's predominantly and evenings once we have light nights again - I can't wait!!

Are you and your horse the right fit?

Riding a horse that you are too big or small for can cause welfare issues, so whether you’re a horse owner, looking for a horse, or rider at your local centre, it is helpful to know how your size and shape can influence the type of horse that can carry you comfortably.

In order to spot a horse with pain or subtle lameness, it is critical to really know what a normal, happy and healthy horse looks and feels like under saddle.

The 24 Behaviours of the Ridden Horse in Pain is an award winning film, that dares to challenge the way we look at "badly behaving" horses, and promotes the notion that common behavioural signs of discomfort can serve as early indicators to address problems before horses become lame.

There is a fabulous APP, poster, and behaviours checklist that can be used to track behaviour occurrences and make notes.

I love to share these "educate your eye" photos from Tamarack Hill Farm, to help you really see riders in good positions.

Leg under, hips back, arms allowing. Centered and balanced, letting the horse do its job.

It's always so beneficial to watch and learn from great, effective and kind horse riders. Go watch competitions, demos and clinics if you can.

What a lovely idea for those riders that may need a little help or time due to a hidden disability.

🌻We are delighted to announce a collaboration with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, as part of our ongoing effort to ensure that BRC offers an inclusive environment for all.

If you have a hidden disability, you can choose to wear the Sunflower armband at BRC activities, available from the Hidden Disabilities shop https://hdsunflower.com/uk/sunflower-armband.html

BRC are committed to training our officials and clubs over the next few months to ensure our members are supported to enjoy BRC activities.🌻

🐴What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share if you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time.

🐴Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it is not there

While some of us experience a disability that is visible, many have a non-visible condition or experience a combination of both visible and non-visible conditions. These disabilities can be temporary, situational, or permanent. They can be neurological, cognitive, and neurodevelopmental as well as physical, visual, auditory and include sensory and processing difficulties. They can also be respiratory as well as chronic health conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, chronic pain, and sleep disorders.
