The neutering deadline for exempted XL bullies who were one or older on 31st January 2024 is fast approaching. ⚠️

If your XL bully has not been neutered by the deadline and confirmation isn’t received by Defra, your dog will no longer be exempt and could be seized by the police. 😢

You only have a few weeks left, so we strongly advise you not to delay, as it could pose a significant risk.

📣 MPs have just approved the Pet Abduction Bill! This bill from Anna Firth MP will make stealing pets a specific criminal offence.

Under current laws, the severity of abducting somebody's pet is decided mainly based on the financial value of the pet. Dog and cat owners know that isn't good enough — our pets mean so much more to us than a price tag. Having a new specific criminal offence will ensure the sentience of our pets is taken into account and reassure pet owners across the nation that if your pet is abducted, the law will take it seriously.

This bill still needs to pass through the House of Lords before it can become law, so we will keep working with Parliament for every dog and cat. This measure began life as part of the Kept Animals Bill, and you can find out more about why we're campaigning for it here 👉 https://bit.ly/3Tk99UF

Roody hasn't had one single application, this gentle giant has been through so much since he came to us on Christmas eve, collapsed and exhausted. He really has been so resilient and strong while he recovered from what appeared to be a very severe dog attack to his neck. Roody is super people orientated and loves company and to lean into you for a good fuss, he’s a good boy. He is 40kg and as he was a stray and we have very limited history we are looking for an adult only home he is rising 10 in a few months and we feel he would like a quiet adult only home, Roody has been building his confidence around other dogs, and can meet and walk well with others but he doesn't really want much from other dogs and due to his past injuries' we feel it's not fair to place him at his age with sharing a home with another dog, he really deserves a home where he can have that 1-1 tender loving care.
We know being such a large boy, and with his requirements he will take time to find the right home.. however Roody is struggling more lately on his legs and kennel life isn't the best addition for his older legs. He is on daily Metacam and yumove but we really can't wait to see this lad back resting in a warm home. Quando a fine 1800 nacque la razza, in tutte le sue varietà, la varietà malinois fu così chiamata perchè gli allevatori erano tutti o quasi dei dintorni della fiamminga Mechelen (in francese Malines) .

I pastori belgi si diffusero rapidamente in tutto il Belgio, sia nella parte vallona sia in quella fiamminga.
Se inizialmente furono utilizzati come cani da gregge, finalmente di razza autoctona, non passò molto tempo che entrarono anche nelle città, come cani da guardia e da polizia.

Già nella Prima Guerra mondiale furono, peli lunghi e peli corti, utilizzati come cani portaordini, e anche impiegati nella Croce Rossa.

I fondatori della razza e tutti i grandi allevatori richiedevano e raccomandavano, attraverso lo "standard " ( dal primo che fu redatto nel 1892 , all'ultimo , in vigore dal 2001 ) che il pastore belga fosse un cane senza alcun timore e aggressività.

Dallo standard 2001 ancora oggi in vigore
" l Pastore Belga è un cane vigile e attivo, traboccante di vitalità e sempre pronto a entrare in azione. All'attitudine innata di guardiano delle greggi, aggiunge le preziose qualità del miglior cane da guardia per la proprietà. E', senza la minima esitazione, il caparbio e ardente difensore del padrone. Riunisce tutte le qualità richieste per essere un cane da pastore, da guardia, da difesa e di servizio. Il suo temperamento vivo e attento e il suo carattere sicuro, senza alcun timore né aggressività, devono essere visibili nell'atteggiamento del corpo e nell'espressione fiera e attenta dei suoi occhi scintillanti. Nei giudizi si terrà conto del carattere calmo e ardito."

Sono molte infatti le cartoline e le fotografie dell'epoca che rappresentavano questi magnifici cani in compagnia di belle ragazze, bambini, famiglie, proprio a valorizzarne l'equilibrato inserimento nei nuclei familiari.

A volte mi chiedo come sia possibile che negli ultimi 20 anni l'allevamento sia così trasceso da produrre soggetti aggressivi, isterici, instabili ,"non per tutti". La frase più sciocca che si possa sentire.

Nessun cane è "per tutti" e sicuramente il cane va dato a famiglie e persone equilibrate, che questo sia un pastore belga, un dobermann, un golden retriever.
Ci sono persone e famiglie che comunque NON sono adatte a possedere un cane.

Ma il cane da pastore belga (quello VERO, non i SURROGATI) continuerà ad essere un compagno affidabile nelle famiglie e con i bambini.

Sono alcune famiglie che a volte non sono l'ideale per ospitare un cane : importante è capirlo e non affidarlo loro.

A mate has just posted this photo as his tap is broken and he wants a plumber to fix it.
I responded by saying he should just ask for someone who did an online course in plumbing for £27, printed their own certificate and/ or has been brought up in a family that always had taps at home and access to some Facebook groups.
How many think my suggestion is stupid? Yet when 90% of dog owners employ a behaviourist, by substituting the word dog for tap thats exactly what they get.🤔🤔
Please check who you employ.

Little Luna loves nothing more than sofa snuggles or playing with her cuddly toys. 🥺

The six-month-old puppy is a gentle, affectionate soul and although she has a wonderful temperament, she potentially has a matter of weeks, if not days, to live unless we find her a loving home. 💔

This is because her looks resemble an American bully XL – soon to be added to a list of banned dogs. While the implications of this law are still uncertain, we do know that owners of dogs deemed to be of this type will need to apply for their pet to go on a register of exemption.

But the situation is far bleaker for homeless XL bully dogs. It will soon become illegal to rehome them, even if assessments find they are good natured and no danger. Devastatingly, the only option will be euthanasia.

However, there is still a glimmer of hope if Luna can be adopted before the law changes. 🤞 But it’s a race against time to find her a home.

My boy Tyrone has been on the exemption list for over 10 years after being typed when he was less than two years old 💙

I’m gutted that the government have decided to add the XL bully to the list of banned types 😢

Whilst there is still a lot of uncertainty on what the process of registering dogs will be, my inbox is open to any worried owners who would like to chat to someone with first hand experience of the process.
