Ready for adoption!
Well, friends, it is time for Duncan to find a loving, forever home. Duncan had us worried this day might never come. He came in with an upper respiratory infection, ear infection and eye infection. Despite aggressive treatment, pneumonia developed. The severe infection he was fighting even found its way to his spleen. We worried that he would not get healthy enough to have the surgery to remove his spleen that he needed to save his life. This boy kept fighting to live and crossed every hurdle. His spleen had to be removed before he was completely healthy and he stopped breathing after surgery because his congestion clogged his breathing tube. Thankfully, his vet staff noticed immediately and were able to pull the tube and get him breathing on his own. His story is one of struggles overcome. Now we want him to have a loving home that will keep him safely indoors. Duncan seems to enjoy the company of other cats. Dogs are an unknown. Humans are the best in his book. So much so that he uses his claws to try to reel you in and sometimes his teeth to get your attention. Because of this, Duncan needs a home with older kids (10 & up) who understand he is not trying to hurt them - he just wants love. Duncan was found in an outdoor living situation. We do not know if he has ever lived in a home. He is using his litter box and enjoys comfy beds. Sadly, we are unsure of Duncan's age - he has the build and mannerisms of a young cat, but the teeth of a senior. What we do know is someone is going to get a gem of a companion. Duncan will want to be near you and help with whatever you are doing. He will greet your company and probably entertain them. Look who's feeling spunky this morning - Duncan! We are going to have to have a little talk with him about the importance of rest, keeping his cone on, and not causing extra work for his awesome medical team. 😁
We have a feel-good story for today! Our guinea pig Newton was adopted earlier this year by a young man who wanted to do everything right. Before adopting, he researched everything he could find about how to care for a guinea pig. Once adopted, he kept a chart of the foods he introduced, and whether or not Newton like them a lot, a little, or not at all. He also made sure that Newton had lots of interactive toys. Newton checked in today to show us that he is ready to celebrate the fall season and Halloween. We couldn’t be happier. 
Biscuit Maker Extraordinaire
Phew, making biscuits works up a thirst! Our Sunday biscuit maker is Duncan! Duncan is new to rescue. He has been living on a rural property, where the property owner believes he and several other cats were dumped. Duncan has not been feeling well and we squeezed him into a very full rescue. He has an upper respiratory infection, eye infection and ear infection. When our vet did his intake exam her exact words were "he has had a very hard life". Due to missing a number of teeth she wasn't able to give us an approximate age. Duncan is started on antibiotics and will be reassessed tomorrow to see if he needs additional meds. Thankfully, his bloodwork came back negative for serious cat diseases. He needs to get healthy so he can be neutered, vaccinated and find a loving home. This boy is just so sweet and starving for attention. We are honored to be able to help him and make sure the rest of his life is on easy street.

Meatball & Molly
If Lt. Col. Dantoin is watching over the Haven named after him, he should be highly entertained. In the room next to Julia and her four boys are Meatball and Molly. Meatball and Molly are two spirited kittens who are going to grow into gorgeous cats. They are scheduled for their surgeries, vaccines and microchips next week and will then be ready for forever homes. The Amazing Abby - there is no other way to describe our sweet girl. On Saturday night Abby began delivering her kittens. Our volunteers stayed with her until the wee hours of Sunday morning and were there to welcome 5 kittens. She added two additional kittens after they left. On Monday morning, Abby was not feeling well. She had a temperature of 104.7 and was lethargic. Our vet staff immediately started her on fluids, took an x-ray to make sure all the kittens were delivered and gave her an injection to expel anything that might be left in her uterus. She was also started on antibiotics. On Monday evening her condition was very grave. If not for her sides moving, you would not have known she was alive. Abby still nursed her kittens and kept them warm, though. Our volunteers worried and prayed - but knew everything was being done that could be. Vet techs dropped in during the night to check on her and her temp had dropped slightly. On Tuesday morning, Abby's temp had dropped again and she was showing some signs of interest in her kittens and food. By Tuesday night Abby was greeting volunteers at the door again and looking for her can of cat food. The kittens were being groomed and Abby was also cleaning herself up. She has continued to improve and the kittens are all still with us. The kittens are being weighed daily to make sure they continue to grow. Abby's recovery has been incredible. We now pray that she continues to improve and her kittens keep growing and thriving. Abby has touched all of us with her will to live and we are going to be sure that she finds a forever home that will love her like we all do. Enjoy this video of Abby and her kittens -
Winston
One of Winston's favorite things is to push the blanket and pillows around. Look at that little tail wag! We are accepting applications to adopt Winston. He is scheduled for his neuter and dental next week. Winston weighs in at just 6.5 lbs, is doing great on his housebreaking and gets along well with dogs and cats. Because Winston was from a puppy mill, he is a bit skittish when being reached for, but he enjoys sitting in your lap or laying next to you. And boy, can he beg for people food! "Oh, you say that was an ant?? I could have sworn it was a spider!! " Meet Leia, the aspiring pest control specialist. Leia came to GBAR as a stray. Her owner was notified she had been found, but chose not to reclaim her. Sadly, this is not the first time this has happened to Leia in her short life. Leia is just over a year old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and negative for fel leuk/FIV. She is funny, outgoing and an absolute doll.
