Noki and Autty’s mom here… Jodi.
I have not updated here in a while and things have been crazy during the pandemic like they have been for everybody else.
Noki and Autty had a new post today which reminded me that I have not updated you all on Noki.
The day after Thanksgiving last year Noki had cryosurgery because Dr. Shane found an oral tumor. It didn’t come back for a month but then when it did we had another cryosurgery. Two weeks later the tumor began to return. At that time we were referred to the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers New York where Noki had one treatment per week for four weeks of radiation and then on chemo meds. Two weeks after the radiation treatments were completed the tumor was gone. We had a lot of hope but two weeks after the radiation ended a CT scan showed that cancer cells were moving towards his brain. At that time we knew nothing else could be done. He lived the next three months a happy boy. Barking for me to fix his food faster. Wanting a lot of blueberries and rolling over for belly rubs.
On Memorial Day his attitude changed. He was no longer happy. Stopped wanting to eat and just wanted to lay by my side all day. This didn’t change for two days so I knew he was telling me it was time. The cancer cells had taken over his brain.
So, on June 1st we took him to our beloved Dr. Shane and let him go. It was hard for Dr Shane too, she’d been Noki’s vet for 9 of his 11.5 years oh his life. I was holding him with my hand on his heart. I felt his heart stop and just bawled. Dr. Shane and my husband did too. I held him for a long time before we left.
He’s now cancer free. He is running, eating blueberries, getting lots of belly rubs from my parents and playing with all of my other Pekes, Yorkies, and other assorted Cotten family pets through the years.
We miss him terribly. We are all still grieving. He had such a fun personality and quite the character! Noki and I had a special connection. We went through a lot together. He will always be deeply missed. 😢💔😢
Autty is doing well. We can tell she misses him and she’s not as active as when noki was here. She’s still eating blueberries and getting a lot of belly rubs. She’s quite the daddy’s girl. 😉
