United WE stand (on two legs and four paws) to bring positive changes to animal welfare

Dog aggression and reactivity is something that we deal with on the regular here at hillside. We see some of the worst cases of aggression and 90% of the time it's because of humans and flawed or lack thereof of training.

Just a few weeks back we were desperately trying to find a home for a young dog named Borris who joined us as a stray who didn't get claimed. Borris is a Presa canario mix with dogo argentino. He is a very strong and confident dog who loves to please his person. He's loyal and loving. He also does not do well around other animals at all.

We debated euthanizing Borris because of the risks he poses in the wrong hands. However each time the date approached he would be there wagging his tail offering kisses to our staff breaking our hearts a little more.

We posted Borris for adoption with very specific requirements.
Strong leadership. No other Pets. Secure back yard. Breed experience.
We didn't recieve any calls for weeks and finally after another reshare, we got a call that sounded like it was a great option for our boy

They came and met him and we offered guidance for training, his neuter voucher, discounted fee. We cautioned all the risks and even had a really lovely trainer offer free sessions with Borris to help work on his issues and get him more manageable. We sent him home with our fingers crossed and our hearts full knowing he had a chance.
We were told everything we wanted to hear....

Unfortunately, not much time has passed and Borris has been returned.

His Adopter did not follow up with the trainer we provided and never contacted her.
His Adopter failed to get him neutered despite it being free.
His Adopter was walking him in his neighborhood and he somehow broke his leash or escaped his control and ran across the road and knocked down a woman who was walking her small dog and bit the dog.
The dog will be okay, thankfully. However now Borris has a dog attack on his record and he is even more reactive then he was when he left us.

Did we make a mistake in giving this dog a chance? Should he pay for this mistake with his life ?

He's no longer welcome in the city of London and he is labeled as a more dangerous dog now. He's only 12 months old.

We spent a few days with Borris and one of our staff decided to reach out to Ashley, the trainer who originally offered to support Borris post adoption.
Ashley was just as devastated as we are that Borris was set up for failure and immediately jumped to the task of helping this good boy get into a better frame of mind for finding a forever home.

Borris went to stay with her for a month to get some one on one training with someone who actually will set him up for success.
His neuter is booked and he won't be going anywhere until it's completed this time. Borris deserves a chance to be someone's best friend. We need your help to share his face and his posts so we can line up a forever Adopter to bring him home as soon as he's ready and completed his training program.
See their intro post here:

We can't say enough good things about K9 Kombat Dog Training and their dedication to helping this guy. Wonderful people with huge hearts. Thanks so much for everything

Borris will be available for adoption sometime at the end of August but we are actively looking for the right person now.
He is currently fostered in tilsonburg and meets can be arranged.
His adoption fee will be $250.
He must go to a home willing to continue his training and work with our trainer to keep things consistent

We don't want to euthanize Borris we want nothing more then him to have a great life. It's not his fault his first two homes failed him
Third times a charm ✨️

Please follow his progress on the k9 Kombat page. And please share that Borris needs a home!

ATTN BRANTFORD RESIDENTS!! The city wants your feedback on budgeting city services. I didn’t see anything in relation to the new animal control building, but did leave a comment in the comments section that Brantford NEEDS a low-cost spay/neuter clinic service. Bonnie and Douglas have been adopted!!

These 2 young dogs were found together and LOVE each other so much.

They are very bonded and the smaller dog will actually drool and bark excessively if they are separated. They sleep together on the same bed and eat from the same bowl. Definitely besties.

Due to their tight bond we are looking for an Adopter to keep them together. With adoptions at an all time low we know this can be a lot.to ask
Hoping with a lowered adoption fee we can fins these kids the right spot!!

We are open to a rescue taking them ONLY of they will be kept together in foster.

Adoption fee for both dogs is $600 plus hst

Bonnie is a female husky type She's around 9-12 months old and is great with other dogs and loves kids.
She is around 45lbs and is almost done growing

Douglas is a poodle mix maybe a whoodle or a mini aussie/poo
He's about 4 months old
He is quite the barker when he can't be near Bonnie.
Quiet otherwise. He's about 25-30lbs and will be around 50lbs by the time he's a year old. Douglas is hyper but very friendly and affectionate.

Both these pups will come fully vaccinated
And chipped and with spay/neuters included in their adoption fee of $600 for the pair.

If you can open your home to 2 sweet young dogs, please give us a call at 519 469 3247 and leave a detailed message

Please share Doug and Bonnie and help us find them a home together! 🏡

PEOPLE IN ST. GEORGE… rescues looking for this kitty with a jar on its head. Contact Brantford North End Cat Rescue.

We got her! 9 days she survived with that on her head.

PLEASE SHARE TO ANYONE IN ST. GEORGE, ONTARIO.

September 1st, I have been told it is 9 days that this poor abandoned cat has had a mason jar on her head, time is running out. Please if you know where she lived, stay away. We want her to feel safe there as we have a plan in place. By all means if you see her in your yard or away try to get her. I think a couple people have and lost her. My advice if you are fortunate to catch her, hold on to the mason jar and stay on the ground. This will prevent you from letting her go if you react to a scratch and release her. Worst case scenario she backs up and the mason jar comes off her head. Use a heavy blanket and throw it over her and secure. But please do not show up at the residence. There were two chances to get her yesterday where she was spooked away. Thank you to all looking for her and to Lee Anne from Hearts for bringing out an automated trap yesterday.

Aug. 31 - Carm and I were out again last night on Hawk, Victor and Main and then again at 3:40 a.m. this morning. She has not returned back to where she lived ): We were told about this Monday the 28th. I do want to thank those on my page such as Pat and Scott who went out on foot and continue to do so. To all the residents of St. George and the Woman of St. George for sharing. We hope someone will be able to catch her.

UPDATE AUG. 30TH: The cat was just seen on Hawk Street again and moving fast still.

The tabby with the mason jar on its head was last seen yesterday around 4 p.m. It is travelling in the area of Main, Victor and Hawk Street. I am told this is day seven. We have traps set up but it is very unlikely we can get her this way. I have not even seen her. So I am asking anyone in the area to please try to get her. She was an owned cat, left behind with two other cats and has been on the streets for two months. We feel so helpless and sad for her as many others do. Cathy and Stephanie have been out looking as others are too. If someone is lucky to get her we will have her vetted and care for her until a home is found.

Oh boy, long day, up at 3:30 and go go. Good news, secured a great foster for a stray cat we took on. Went out to St. George for a while, set up our drop trap to try for a cat with a mason jar on its head for six days! so sad. The neighbor bless her heart has been trying since last Thursday. At one point Carm watched her walk into an empty dog house and he tried very carefully to get up to it with the net. He was right at the dog house when he stepped on a crinkly leaf and the she ran. We set our traps and secured people who were going to check every two hours. Thankyou to David for driving from Breslau and Lee Ann for bringing out her automated drop trap to try but the connection was not good enough. Hopefully this poor cat will go in the live trap. We are asking the universe for help tonight. This cat was one of three just left behind two months ago by their owner. Sadly this is becoming the norm and I am not understanding why people are not heavily fined for doing so.

😺 I’m Eminem,
Much like the rapper when he first started out, when I arrived my knees were weak, and my arms were heavy but why would I eat “mom spaghetti?” 🤨. . . In other words, I was a painfully shy guy!
I’m a soft and sensitive soul who’s been slowly coming out of my anxious shell with the help of another cat that’s available for adoption. She’s a crazy, cooky little lady and makes the funniest sounds when she zips past me. I can’t help but feel interested in where she’s going and what might be giving her such a zest for life around here.
I’ve finally started to freely walk around the office and will even show my belly and roll around for some love.
If I sound like the perfect companion you’ve been looking for, fill out the adoption application and lets get this match making started!
I’ll be waiting. . . but, not as anxiously as I used to 😉

Today, the City is pleased to announce that the large dogs dog park, located on the south side of the property at 282 Stanley Street along Elgin Street will be open to the public beginning Wednesday March 1st. This area has been cleared during Archaeological Investigations conducted last year and we are excited to offer this new park amenity. The “small dog” park will open in the spring when ground conditions in this area of the park are more suitable. Details: bit.ly/3m9RCSi

I am so sick of hearing and seeing this bu****it and the government bodies doing NOTHING despite regulations being in place. Please speak up for these animals and send a letter using this link. It only takes a few minutes. Please WATCH THE VIDEO FROM THIS SLAUGHTERHOUSE AND THINK ABOUT THAT MEAT ON YOUR PLATE! It had a family and felt pain and suffering when it died at the hands of despicable humans! Marketed meat as ‘organic’ and ‘humane’ and ‘grass-fed’ are all bu****it Marketing techniques by companies exploiting these animals, and consumers, for profit! Don’t fool yourself thinking these animals are treated with dignity and respect when they are murdered, because they aren’t!

A good note to pet parents 💕

A good note to pet parents 💕

Who will care for your cat(s) if you die or become incapacitated? Under present conditions, you cannot depend on a rescue group having the capacity to home them. It is up to you to be sure your furbabies will be cared for if you are no longer able to do so. Choose a caretaker now and choose carefully. Be sure that the person you leave responsible knows your cats, their history and their needs. Put everything in writing, preferably in your will, but if that is not an option, put it in writing and make sure your family and the proposed caregiver have copies. Include food, health information, name of your veterinarian, and usual preferences and routines. If you live alone, carry a card in your wallet and post a note at home that states who should be called to take custody of your cats if you die. Morbid? Yes. Vital to their health and well-being? Absolutely. Put that person’s number in your cell phone and give that person a key to your home. While you cannot legally leave money to your cats, you can leave money in trust for their care, with conditions as to how that money is to be spent. Be a good Scout, and an even better cat parent: BE PREPARED.

𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐔𝐋 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬! 😻

Jinx is the absolute BEST company! She loves attention, but also doesn't mind having some alone time. She is not one to dive headfirst into things, so she does require a bit of time to warm-up. She will be your very best sidekick! 🦹‍ That being said, a "sidekick" is a one kitty job, so she would prefer to be in a home without other pets. Jinx would love to find the purrfect home for the Holidays! ❤

Healthy raccoons can be active in the daytime during any time of the year. But as night temperatures fall, you’re more likely to see a raccoon coming out during daylight hours. Raccoons enter a hibernation-like state during winter known as torpor. During this time, they sleep much more often, but will come out on warm days to look for food, while spending nights cuddled up in warm dens with their families. An otherwise healthy-looking raccoon is extremely unlikely to have rabies, even if you see it coming out during the day.

𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗘 - 𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 🐾

✅ NO dogs in the home
✅ savvy cats ok
✅ calm, respectful kids ok
✅ family with patience and understanding
✅ no stairs or very few stairs would be helpful
✅ A person who is at home, or works part time to help with frequent potty breaks and potty training

My name is Hildie and I am about 5-6 years old. I am a sweet, friendly, and loving girl looking for a family that enjoys snuggles. My little stubby tail never stops wagging because I am so happy to be safe and warm.

You see I had a very awful start to life.
Before coming to English Bulldog Rescue of Ontario, I spent the majority of my life living in a barn stall in a puppy mill. My sole purpose was to have litter after litter in awful conditions for a human’s profit. My body finally gave out and they gave me to a nice lady who helped me live a normal life.

I was never allowed outdoors when I was a puppy mill momma so I’m still working on my potty training. I’ve learned to go p**p outside but I still have the odd p*e accident indoors so I am looking for a family that will be patient and continue to work with me. Someone who works part time or from home would be wonderful! I have a bit of arthritis and take supplements and medication daily to help make my joints feel better. I love my crate and find it comforting, I spend lots of time napping in there.

Although i get along with other dogs, I get very jealous of sharing my humans, my food, my toys, and my space with other animals, so I prefer to be the only girl in the home. I’m fine around other dogs outdoors if there is nothing for me to guard or be jealous over. I am looking for a family with a gentle touch and lots of patience and love because I still get a bit timid around humans.

If you have no other dogs, and you think you may have a soft place for me to land and help me regain my confidence and become that spunky bulldog we know is inside, please email my temporary momma, Kasia, at [email protected] and tell her a bit about yourself.
