Progress over perfection. ✅

But if it's not perfect, then I don't want to [post it, sell it, try it, introduce it] ... you get the idea.

It's important to choose progress over perfection in your business or personal endeavors, or else you may never take that next step!! 🚶‍♀️

There will always be a new iteration of something you create, no matter how perfect you try to make it the first time. So my bit of advice, and call to action for you today, is to choose progress over perfection and just start somewhere.

Post it, publish it, schedule it, talk about it.

Whatever IT is, go forward and make progress today, instead of waiting for things to be perfect. (Hint: or you might be waiting a very, very long time) 👍

Life is busy. 🫤

Some of us run around day after day, (ahem... me...), afraid to pause even for just one second in fear that we'll fall behind.

But the more we choose to pause, to disconnect from our phones, the clock, the schedule.... the more time we get back. ⏰

We can create time. I've witnessed it! "Slowing down" doesn't just apply to our breathing, movement, or our day. It also applies to time.

I'll wander out to the garden for just a moment, and it seems I'll be out there for an hour, but I come inside and just 20 minutes has gone by.

The best 20 minutes of my day.

If you're looking to create time, create an intentional place to slow down, then your garden is calling.

The most efficient way to create a garden oasis this season is by learning the steps from someone who has done it before you.

Plan, install and plant a healthy, low maintenance garden in just 8 weeks with a step by step tutorial led by myself, a gardening expert of over 12 years.

Gratitude and worry can't exist at the same time in our minds.

This was a powerful discovery for me. 💡 It's physically impossible for our brains to experience the sentiment of gratitude whilst also experiencing worry.

I am grateful to know this, but still at times, it's easy to lose track and get lost in a spiral of worry or anxiety about something big or small.

Recognizing when you are lost in the grips of worry and taking action to switch your thinking towards gratitude can be tough.

Yesterday, I was fretting over something. I couldn't override that desire to just worry worry stress stress. Even though I recognized that I was worrying, I forgot the second part which is to replace it with gratitude 🙏

I decided to take a break outside to clear my head, and found myself in the garden 🌿
The garden is such a powerful healer. Instantly cleansing my worried/anxious energy and replacing it with an energy of gratitude. Lightness. Recognition for what's outside of my little brain and how incredible life is.

Simply just by looking at the tiny carrot seeds sprouting and the striking color of my Swiss chard in the garden naturally broke the cycle of worry and helped bring me back into gratitude. 🙏

The garden is such a powerful healer.

Every winter is a long winter... when you're a gardener.

Even more so when your livelihood depends on green things that grow from the ground. 🌿

For folks in the landscaping industry, March is generally a jam packed time. But what if it's not? What if your phones aren't ringing, your books aren't as booked as they have been in the past? What if there's still a foot of snow on the ground and no one is thinking about their yard or garden yet?

Here's a little tidbit of wisdom that I've learned over the years working in horticulture and in my small landscaping company: The business is out there. And you're about to be slammed. Trust.

The tinyest efforts on your part will make a huge impact. And this goes for all businesses. Go to a networking event, post a sign at a local nursery about your services, heck partner with a nursery and teach a free class, take some flyers to a farmers market and introduce yourself.

There's no better way to jumpstart your Spring schedule than to get out there and start meeting folks face to face.

Don't be discouraged. Get out there and talk about what you do and love most, and you'll plant the seed for an abundant season. 🌱

Why? 😭

Why, why, whyyyYYYYYYY!? Why can't all the food in the grocery store be full of magic and make my mouth water? Why do we pay dividends for food with a fraction of the nutrition that we can grow better of for free?

No time? No knowledge? Is gardening a lost art? What?... You're grandma didn't teach you? 👵

I told you I've been up to something! 😁

Well.. here it goes!..

I chose gardening as a career... well actually, let's be real... it chose me 😂

But this past season, I discovered that that's not all I know... 6 years of hard earned business knowledge, first hand experience of starting and growing a specialized landscaping company from scratch, nothing, nada. 🪄

Of evolving it into an online garden education platform, and then boom, consulting with other small business owners in the landscaping and horticulture fields (and beyond!).

Consulting and sharing my knowledge to help others who are striving to grow their small business has been my latest to-do.

It's been incredibly rewarding and all of the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices I've made to build Teach Me To Grow is starting to make more sense 🤔

This past season I worked one-on-one consulting with a small, woman-owned landscaping company in Newport Beach CA.

With my help, we created important systems, eliminated inefficiencies, streamlined communication, saved time, and so much more.

Her pain points were my pain points, but I had important and relevant solutions.

It was an incredible experience to leverage my hard-earned business knowledge to help another business grow. 🧠

And so I plan to share some more of it with you. To anyone in this community who can benefit. Anyone trying to start or create a small business, especially in the landscaping/horticulture industry.

Feel free to comment or DM me if you are excited to hear about what I have to share here.

I sure am excited to share it with you.

Gardening is Connection. I see so many new and novice gardeners approach the garden with the desire to control and the expectation …

23/02/2024

For those of you who don't know me...

I am a die-hard gardener.
I know that food grown with love is our magic.
I like to help people.
I'm a teacher.
I like the little things.
Because the little things are what matter.
Like the bees.
The sound of rain.
A new connection.
With an old friend, new friend, or just in my brain.
And I eat fresh-picked spinach out of my pocket,
Straight from the soil.
Which is where life begins.

Man oh man, it's been a busy winter!

Which is a weird thing to hear out of a gardeners mouth!... Winters are usually a time to chill.. (literally 🥶), recoup, relax, and gnaw on some leftover carrots or winter squash from the fall harvest.

But this winter I've been up to something new and exciting... 😀

I can't wait to share it with you! 🥕

Gardening isn't black and white. It's Green!

So many of us try to fit gardening into a box..... literally!

Which sometimes can keep us from even starting...

No matter what, there are just a few fundamentals to learn to get you started. There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to gardening. But learning the basics can help you get started faster and then Mother Nature will simply teach you the rest 🌱🪱

What is eating my __(fill in the blank!)__ 😭🌱

This is one of the most common questions I get from students! Tiny holes, shredded leaves, missing plants?!?!?!?! 🤦‍♀️

There are so many pest insects that can take hold in the garden it can feel like you'll never get it right! But the fact of the matter is, these pesky little pests actually make you a better gardener! This is how:

1.) Always make observations! The undersides of leaves are where many pest insects hang out. See damage? Check the undersides! (The tiny little cabbage worm in the second pic is causing all of this damage to this baby brassica!). 🐛

2.) Get curious... GOOGLE! Be descriptive in what you google. Instead of "bug eating my kale", type in "small to medium sized holes in kale, tiny green worm underside of leaf". Then, check the images to find a look alike. This description and process will help google direct you to EXACTLY what the problem is.. and quickly provide a solution.

3.) Learning this way will help you build your knowledge base instead of simply declaring defeat! This empowers you to take the right action, and to spot the problem earlier next time! ✨

This is how we become better gardeners -- always learning!

Check out my online A to Z Gardening course, The Sustainable Gardener to learn more about pest ID, organic solutions, and how to become a successful and confident gardener in just 8 weeks! Link in bio! 👩‍🌾

Happy Friday! 💚

Can I cover crop a raised bed? 🤔

Absolutely! Cover crops are an excellent way to keep soil covered over the winter season. Some of our favorite winter cover crops are winter rye grass and vetch.

Planting a cover crop in your garden after it's done for the season will protect the soil and soil biology from the sun, wind, and compaction from water and snow (if it snows in your region!).

It also provides fodder for the biology living in the soil (worms, centipedes, fungi and bacteria!). 🪱

In the spring, chop it down and shovel it into the soil to add tons of healthy organic matter.

Check out my newest blog post "Growing & Using Cover Crops in the Home Garden" at teachmetogrow.com/blogs to read all about it and learn how to incorporate this easy soil building skill into your gardening routine! 👩‍🌾
