Day 50
Spot and the box game. The next part of clicker training is the box game. Here is Spot learning that when she interacts with the box the clicker tells her that a treat is coming. This game teaches the puppies that when they offer a certain behavior the clicker tells them that they did a good job and they will get a treat. We use a clicker because it gives the same exact sound and is quicker than a voice.
Day 46
2 days ago we did some nose work. The treat is in the box so it made the scent coming out of the box, the only way to find the treat. They all did find the treat, but this little guy, his was the most obvious. He searches and finds where it’s not. When young puppies are using their noses like this - their eyes are turned off. They will only find it with their nose. This guy thinks he has “looked” everywhere and is ready to give up. He sits down, looks at me and starts to cry. It looks like the treat calls his name at how quickly he turns his head. He is catching the scent and goes right to the treat. So fun to see them develop some skills with their nose v
Day 43
We spend an hour or so outside every day, just enjoy these 30 seconds.
Day 30
Here is Spot, she can wrestle with the best of them. You can see why we call her spot. I wonder if when her hair curls, we will still be able to call her Spot??
Here are some of the little mamas best weaning moves.
Day 27
Time for poodles playing. They play with each other and with toys. Sometimes they fall asleep while in the playing pile.
Day 19 continues. These puppers are all getting some good ninja moves.
Day 16 continues. This video also demonstrates that we are entering the socialization period. The pups both interact with each other and then whew, fall asleep.
Here is Chip he is interested in sucking more than lapping but what a great effort.
Day 15 cont.
Here is the lapping part. Bob is doing a great job of getting his mouth and tongue in the right place, doing the right thing.
Day 11 cont.
here they are toddling, you can really see Bob go.
This is a scent training that we have tried to continue from the new Puppy Culture course that included some puppy nose work. This is Stellar, there is a treat in the crate that she at first steps over cause she is using her nose not her eyes, but she gets it. Then there is a treat on the side of the bed and on the floor beside the bed. There had been a treat in the bed when Birdie did her nose work, but watch Stellar’s head move side to side and catch the scent when she lifts her head. The treat on the floor was easy and the last one I show is on top of the slide. Because we “search” for treats almost every day I think they are getting better and think, look up, look under, and catch the scent quickly. There were about 10 treats hidden and she took almost 2 minutes to find them. We only showed 4. My 4 year old granddaughter was the one who hid them. She is a great puppy helper.
Here is Birdie doing some loose leash walking. I’m trying not to be so proud, because out the part where she was jumping and playing with the leash. But she is getting better and she looks so cute while she looks up at me.
Auntie Twig is gently trying to get Stellar to use the toy to play with. It is the best way for dogs to play, also Stellar is wearing a fleecy jacket I found in a bin, it was too big for Birdie.
We are starting to work on treat or food puzzles. In this video you can really see the difference in size between these two girls, you can also see how little Birdie usually moves her body and gets in their first. They are doing so great and waiting patiently for new surroundings. Let’s chat…..
This is Auntie Twig, it did take her a minute (about 8 weeks) to get used to them. At this point if they got too personal she would simply stand up. Over time I think she has learned that they are puppies, She lays down to play with them and I saw her lift her back leg like momma dogs do to let them nurse. It was while they were trying to wean.
Here is a cute video of them playing outside, aren’t they so fluffy. I forgot to add their 7 week weigh-in: Stellar 4.11lbs. Birdie 2.14lbs.
