Please excuse my handwriting...sometimes I just need to write it down! We'll be posting more about our plans to go from a small home garden to expanding into a neighborhood/community garden, but I wanted to share this little visual that shows our current goals and dreams for Lucy's Family Farm. What would you like to see or have access to in a neighborhood farm?

One step closer! We have submitted our application for our USDA Farm number. Which would basically make us officially farmers :)

Going from idea to reality! Today we pulled out our property survey and tape measures and started our preliminary garden planning. Our goal is to use this area as part of our neighborhood U-Pick for seasonal veggies (and fruits eventually!). This is only a small part of our overall vision!

We had a large storm rumble through today with high winds sustained over several hours... but zero damage in the garden and it is absolutely beautiful out. Nola was a great helper today... and doesn't she look so pretty against the green of the garden? Jasper was checking out the garden goods too!

I did not, in fact, know there was dirt all over my face until it was pointed out to me lol! Part of garden life!

at its best!! These are volunteer plants from compost we used. Probably some sort of squash? Maybe cucumber? Maybe something else? We shall see! Tell us what you think they are! In the meantime we continued with our original plan of this being a corn bed. And all of our seeds sprouted so they must like their buddies at least a little bit. The kiddie pool is how we make use of what we have. That pool was our dog's and it lasted a couple of summers before cracking. We didn't have enough soil to completely fill this bed, so we removed the bottom of the kiddie and used it to help contain the soil we did have to a smaller area.
