Flynn is a mini red 10 month old Jack, He has awesome color to him and very small, Flynn loves people and loves to run around and roll everywhere he can! Guys this is a true find! It is very hard to find donkeys this small! What better way to start your herd or make an addition to with this awesome choice. If we had the space to keep two jacks this boy would definitely be staying, he is smaller than any Jack I have come across.

Eddy is a mini Hereford bull.
He is a unique one, I personally think Eddy needs to be someone’s pasture pet, he is hands down the most laid back, doesn’t care what you do with him or what is happening he is just there for it. I took Eddy up to the local school where he was a huge hit with the special education class and Eddy thrived! He has a weird thing where he never knows what to do with his tongue …just adds to his unique character.

Oakley is a micro mini HighDex heifer. She does feel the need to stick her tongue out at you on a pretty regular basis so this picture accurately portrays her hahah. Mr. Pickles is a mini spotted Jack, he is 11 years old and 33 inches tall. Let me start by saying you will not have a Jenny left un bred with Pickles in the pasture. He is a sweetheart and gentle around all people. Pickles is a great jack he is sweet and he doesn’t cause any issues. Mr Pickles is very active and gets very excited with new donkeys they will probably be bred the same day he meets him, after he’s done being himself he’s back to being his sweet loving self.

Recipe and ingredients It’s one thing to have small highlands, producing them is something totally different. In order to produce genetically small highlands, you must have BOTH the correct recipe and the proper ingredients. If you use a bad recipe, it won’t matter how great your ingredients are, and if you have bad ingredients, even a top notch recipe will yield poor results. Both the recipe and ingredients have been a work in progress for us for 20 years. We have been making improvements in both ingredients and the recipe, adding new lines and working to ever improve the ingredients. If your breeder sells everything they produce, they are not/have not been taking the steps necessary to see if they are on the right track, if they have the right ingredients and/or the right recipe. If your breeder is selling adults, they are likely selling bad ingredients. What price would you put on breeding stock that is producing top quality calves? These two heifers are both chondro positive and are similar ages (you can tell by the coat). The calf on the left is from one of our very successful recipes out of tried and true ingredients. But the calf on the right is from our latest recipe out of our latest line of ingredients. The heifer on the right is a “high five” calf and literally the product of all of the culling record keeping and selective breeding and honing of our herd. The larger calf is 94% Highland while the smaller calf is 97% highland. Both calves are the product of retaining our calves for many generations to witness and build upon progress made.

Please remember that it took 40 years and a closed herd to create both the Lowline Angus and the Mini Hereford. This is what it takes to change the genetics of a breed. It took us at least a decade of careful selection and then even more careful culling to even begin to see a change in the genetic size of our herd. Culls should never be sold back into the breeding program. At about the 15 year mark in our breeding program, we finally felt we were starting to get real results that we were proud enough to call mini highlands. And the last 5 years have seen the most significant advances in our breeding program as we double down on our successes.
