Exciting news! On September 10, 2024, at 2 PM, Aurora gave birth to eight beautiful babies. We have four red tabbies, one black tabby, one black torbie, one black tortie and one black solid. Everyone is nursing and doing well so far, and I can already see how gorgeous they are going to be Aurora is an amazing mum, very caring and sweet.
However, the birth was far from easy. As a first-time mom, Aurora didn't quite know what to do, so I had to help her with basically everything- opening every sac, clearing mouth from amniotic fluid, cutting the umbilical cords. Towards the end, she started to get the hang of it, but then, labor suddenly stopped...
I have extensive knowledge of handling newborns, including what actions to take if there is a problem and what medications to administer if needed. But what happened next was overwhelming, and I'm grateful I had the experience needed.
After a long period of pushing, baby number six was born without a sac, umbilical cord and was not breathing. After over five minutes of CPR, it came back to life. Babies seven and eight were born back-to-back, not breathing and unresponsive, with their mouths wet and open due to aspiration by amniotic fluid.
I had to perform alternating CPR on both babies. There was a moment when I thought I might give up, but I didn't and kept going. Finally, I saw some weak attempts to breathe, and eventually, they started screaming. Happy tears, relief... I put them in the oxygen chamber to get stronger breaths and then put them back with mum. They immediately started nursing and I knew they are going to be ok
They are truly miracle babies, and I'm glad I did what I did. One thing I know is that I will always fight for every single one of them, no matter what. I love my cats and will do everything in my power to help.
I have learned so much through the breeder network, masterclasses on veterinary and felinology. I continue my education and learning every day.
This experience reinforced an important lesson: never give up, even when you think it's the end.
