Hello! Just to say that whilst I have been very quiet on my page, I am still here, busy visiting horses!

I do however owe you all an update on why I have been quiet for the past 6 weeks.

Unfortunately 'life' sometimes happens! Behind the scenes of HM Equine Services, some of my nearest and dearest have been experiencing some significant health problems. This has just meant that I have had to just change some of my focus in to supporting my loved ones when it has been needed most.

As much as Facebook has been complaining for my lack of posting, I am definitely still here, weighing and now massaging lots of horses and will be up until Christmas! Limited spaces available but please drop me a message if you want to book in.

I also would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with me recently for being so flexible around appointments and understanding if I haven't been as prompt with my responses.

I am hopeful that 2025 will be a much healthier time for all and I will be looking forward to further developing HM Equine Services in January to provide an even better service for all my wonderful clients and their fabulous horses!

An evening of weighing making sure everyone is prepared for winter and goals set.

It was also wonderful to see Max again. If you can remember, he isn't always a fan of walking onto the weighbridge and he is the record holder for the longest time taken to get on the weighbridge (approx 2 hours 30). This was his 3rd time, in the dark and he has recently moved yards. The odds were stacked against him however this didn't stop him absolutely smashing his fears and walking straight on. Goes to show that a bit of patience and working with the horse gets the best results 😀

What is an Equine Sports Massage Therapist?

My focus is to manipulate the body using a range of soft tissue techniques including stretching, joint mobilisation and muscle activation. I feel for areas of tension, discomfort, changes in muscle tone, inflammation, heat or decreased range of movement. I am able to use a range of techniques to aid relaxation and recovery.

Who benefits from treatment?

Anyone and everyone! Horses don't have to be recovering from a significant injury or competing at top levels to experience tension or discomfort. Those who are in full work, ridden once or twice a week or even those who are turned out and living their best lives as a companion can benefit from a massage.

Some very exciting news!

✨I am now a fully qualified Equine Sports Massage Therapist! ✨

This is something that I have always wanted to pursue however previously the timing was never right. After my big change in life 14 months ago, everything began to fall into place and I discovered that I could do my training though the very reputable Wolds Equine Rehabilitation.

I would like to thank both Olivia Renshaw of Wolds Equine Sports Massage Approved Courses and Lisa Sharp Sports Massage Therapist - Balancing Horse & Rider, for their wonderful tuition and I am already looking forward to further up-skilling myself in this field.

I am so excited to be taking this next step and to further expand HM Equine Services

It can’t be said that I only weigh horses and ponies!
🐱 If it goes in the weighbridge, we weigh it, cats and dogs included!! 🐶

🫏 Every time I have the privilege of meeting and weighing donkeys, I fall in love with them a little more and these two stunning boys were no exception!! 🫏

⚖️ I’ve also recently had lots of chats about carrying capacity and towing weights. Well what better way to find out the total amount of additional weight the horse carries than to ride your horse onto the weighbridge 😂

I always encourage anyone who would like to know the weight of their tack etc to pop it on or hop on themselves as it is always an interesting and thought provoking discussion point and highlights the importance of the 15-20% carrying rule! ⚖️

An absolutely stunning day where I met some stunning horses!! The view from the one yard was incredible! This visit ranged from a lovely 2 year old as our youngest who took to the weighbridge like a pro, up to a slightly mature mare (a true lady never tells her age 😉) and everything in between!! Looking forward to tracking these guys progress and watching them smash their individual goals

A catch up with some of my regulars as well as meeting some new faces, all looking fabulous and lots of talk about winter preparation which is great!
Some of these are on an 8-10 week weighing cycles as we are just keep a closer eye on their weight and this is really helping us to build a bigger picture and better improve their health 🥰

I may have been a little quieter posting but I’ve still been here there and everywhere meeting wonderful horses and ponies! Even going between countries as one yard was in Wales and the other in England!

Impossible to sum up the amazing 27 years of this absolutely incredible horse but I have been so lucky to call you mine for the last 11 years.

𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑯𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑

When the lead outreach instructor for Think Like a Pony contacted me about doing a talk and workshop for her Summer Camp, I jumped at the chance. The ethos of the approach is really refreshing and it was lovely to see how the children handled their ponies with calmness, compassion and confidence.

We began the morning with two talks on ‘The importance of equine weight and management’ which was followed by a workshop based on Body Condition Scoring, what it is, why it is useful and how to do it!

After this, the children were able to have their ponies weighed and then use their knowledge from the morning to Body Condition Score their own pony. The children were fantastic at this and really took their time to feel the horse and assess them. We had lots of opportunity for reflection and discussion.

A truly fantastic day with some really wonderful children and their lovely parents! (You can tell how swept up I was with the day as I didn’t take a single picture 😂🙈)

I had a quick tour of 3 different counties the other week! Starting in Powys, heading to Shropshire for a yard of 4 horses then continuing through to Worcester. All with Gryff to keep me company for the driving and training session for him!
The last yard I visited was really interesting as the owners of the horses have recently been taking their horses swimming!

🐟Swimming is a great way of helping your horse to lose weight and it is a low-impact exercise, so there is less strain on a horse's joints than typical rehabilitation on the ground. Moving in the water creates resistance and makes the horse work harder, helping build the horse's lung capacity and stamina. Swimming also helps reduce inflammation and fluid buildup in the legs. 🐬
