Black Araucana's are the Original blue/green egg layers, and are on the RBST Priority list, so more people need to keep and appreciate these beautiful hens. They are an economical bird to keep. These Chickens are classed as medium size poultry; they do not eat a lot. I just keep a full feeder of good quality layer pellets available for them, and it is always a surprise to see how little they do eat. They also love grass, as you will see in the photo's. Grass gives them calcium & protein. Grass also means chickens produce eggs with beautiful orange yolks. No chemicals like supermarket eggs - just layer pellets & grass!!

They also lay very well indeed for a pure breed. A medium sized egg, but a beautiful aqua blue, turquoise colour which goes right through to the inside of the shell; not just a colour coating. Their eggs have a good sized yolk, and are delicious to eat.

Unfortunately my photo's do not do these beautiful birds justice. Although they are mainly black, their feathers are shot radiant blue. Also, due to the exceptionally heavy rain we have had, they have picked up a small amount of mud on the back of their necks. The Uropygial oil gland may help remove this or I can brush it out, but I would rather nature flushes it away.

These birds are tranquil hens; they don't like dogs & don't like wind/rain. They are happy to be in human company - even enjoying a cuddle!

Given a good life & attentive care (no stress), they should live for about eleven years

I am selling 6 eggs from my show quality Brahma Chickens.
These are huge chickens, cockerels will reach approx 2.5-3 feet tall.
Obviously they need plenty of space so free range with shed is ideal for them.
They’re such friendly birds, really chilled out so great with children.
Blue, Black, splash and lavender colours ( a first class signed postage.
Eggs are collected freshly twice a day and are never stored for more than 3 days before posting.
