White County Animal Shelter Local Animal Control Shelter for White County TN. We are a very small dog only shelter in rural middle TN. Adopting a friend

Our adoption fees are $250.00.

Our primary focus is the intake of stray dogs and we try to reunite them with their family. On the occasions that their family can’t be found, or if the family is not interested in reclaiming their pet, we do all we can to find adoptive homes for them or place them with approved rescues. We will take owner surrenders when space allows, you will be required to pay a $50.00 fee to surrender your pet

. As with all rural shelters in economically depressed areas, our adoption numbers aren’t very high so we strive to work with as many rescues as we can and we are always looking for more wonderful volunteers to help out the fur kids! This fee includes the following

Full Physical Exam
Sterilization Surgery
Pain Injection w/Laser Treatment
Fecal Test
Heartworm Test
Rabies Vaccination (If old enough at time of surgery)
Therapeutic Ear Cleaning
Nail Trim

Your new pet received the following the day he/she came into the shelter

Dewormer
Capstar
Flea and Tick Prevention
Heartworm Prevention (5 Months and Younger)

ABSOLUTELY NO ADOPTED ANIMAL LEAVES THE SHELTER UNALTERED

The pull fee for approved rescues will be reflective of the vetting a dog has received while at the shelter. Rescues do not need to be 501c3 to work with us!! We are not affiliated with any rescue or shelter, however we do work with Rescues in order to save as many dogs from euthanasia as possible. We are not a No-Kill Shelter, although we try to place as many dogs possible with adopters and rescues.

This post regarding "Peanut", from the shelter was made last week. Many shared respectful and heart felt goodbyes regarding the situation she was facing. Peanut had Strangles and did not recover. We were so saddened by the diagnosis. Social media can be brutal playground for hate. I just wanted to set the record straight regarding a comment made by a lady. She stated that the shelter was seeking to have Peanut euthanized and not treated with needed antibiotics. This is a false statement. I have first hand knowledge because POPS paid the first $1000.00 dollars toward her treatment and I assure folks we wanted nothing more for her than a full recovery. I want the good people who donate their hard earned money and support POPS that your donations are used for the good of the dogs at the shelter. Peanut went to a foster home that continued treatment paid for by them personally. POPS and the shelter would never deny a dog treatment and choose euthanasia first. Be careful about what you read on social media it is not always accurate.

This girl won our hearts the moment she was brought in to us. ❤️

We had no idea the challenge we were taking on. Peanut came in at 22 pounds. She was very malnourished and dehydrated and had what appeared to be an infection around her muzzle.

Despite her looks, she was just the happiest girl. She loved to snuggle and LOVED to eat.

She was under the shelters care for the first couple of weeks. We bounced around with antibiotics during that time, trying to kick that infection. She even got a special scrub for her nose.. Nothing was working.. We felt at a loss.. Then John and Aleta took her in, saving her from being euthanized and giving her a home and the proper time and care she deserved.

In just two short months, this girl gained almost 15 pounds! Though she was feeling good enough to eat, her face was progressively getting worse. She was diagnosed with Strangles. We thought we were making headway when we heard that news and we can start treating her accordingly. More medications, different medications, any and all medications. We wanted to try everything!

Peanut fought like hell. She was finally in a loving home, surrounded by people and other dogs who loved her and she fought, everyday, to keep living! But her body got tired of fighting.. got tired of hurting.. She couldn’t eat, she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t live like this… We had to help her cross the rainbow bridge.

She deserved the best life and she was given that in her last months. I wish we could’ve helped her sooner.. I wish the people who had her would’ve asked for help.. I wish…

Rest easy, Peanut! We love you and can’t wait to see you again 🐾🌈

Peanut got a bath and is enjoying some sun. ☀️ ❤️ We switched up her antibiotics today, hoping they’ll kick in and start treating this infection quickly. She is such a sweet, happy girl. 🥹🐾

This poor girl was saved today.. She was taken to vet to be evaluated. We are asking for donations for her medical care. If you’d like to donate, please call in any donations to Sparta Veterinary Services and place a donation under POPS for Peanut. 🐾❤️

🙏🙏‼️Is anyone willing to foster Hannah for a week and a half after her surgery, prior to transport? From Nov 29-Dec9/10??‼️🙏🙏 ‼️‼️UPDATE! Transport is being coordinated for Dec 9-10 ‼️‼️ ‼️‼️‼️TRANSPORT NEEDED‼️‼️Hannah has been adopted and will be going to her forever home IN MAINE. She is scheduled for her spay appointment November 29. Is there anyone willing to help transport her after her surgery? Maybe up to Connecticut? She’s going all the way to the Canadian Border!! Let’s get this sweet girl to her forever home!! 🙏‼️‼️‼️
