***Wylder’s surgery and hospital stay is COVERED - Thank YOU!!**
We need your help, Wylder needs your help and is about to go in for life-saving surgery now.
Last night we were contacted by a small local rescue that had been contacted about a Golden a family no longer wanted and at the last minute decided to adopt him to their cousin. Turned out the cousin didn’t want him and this rescue was contacted again, went to meet this pup and saw he was very lethargic, vomiting and was told he hadn’t eaten in a couple of days but was prone to eating rocks, nails, branches, well just about anything. His owners were not going to take him to a vet, they just wanted him out.
We were contacted by this rescue and Wylder’s dad agreed to meet us at the emergency vet to relinquish ownership last night.
This family has a lot on their plate, 4 kids under the age of 10, mom recently received a scary health diagnosis and a pup less than a year old. Tears were shed, paperwork was signed and Wylder is now with SCGRR. I think we can all agree this was the best situation for all and most importantly Wylder is getting the emergency care he needs and we will eventually find him a wonderful home and family that loves him. Wylder will be 1 years old on the 27th of this month.
On arrival, he was taken back on a stretcher for emergency care and assessment. After diagnostics, exam, bloodwork, x-rays, it was pretty clear that Wilder had an obstruction in the lower intestines, which would not move any further on its own. Additionally, there is a screw plus another grouping of smaller rocks further up in his abdomen. The surgeon determined we would give him fluids, pain meds, plus anti-nausea meds to keep him comfortable overnight and would repeat diagnostics first thing in the morning to determine next steps.
This morning, as expected, the diagnostic showed that that large rock has not moved and so far it doesn’t look like the small intestines have perforated, but we will not know until the surgeon opens him up. If there is a perforation, the small intestines will need to have a portion removed and get resected.
Right now, the estimate is between $10,000 and $14,000. Granted this does not include our rescue discount, nor does it include his follow up care.
Wylder really needs your thoughts, positive vibes, prayers that the surgery goes well, there’s no complications and that his small intestines are not perforated. He really is still just a puppy at just under a year old, he has his whole life ahead of him.
