Here we see Canis Familiaris, squaring off in a most important game of herd/chase. Luna, the border collie alpha of her Homo sapiens pack, and Eleanor, the alpha Berger of her Homo sapiens pack. The first to show more than a fake out, will be the chasee, the dog that shows more patience, gets the reward and role of chaser. These games simulate hunting, teach proper bite inhibition, allow the dogs to practice aggression, as well keeps them in shape to survive the rough nature of pet life in 2024.

Willard has been working on allowing grooming and handling. Using fish treats for rewards, while sitting directly in front of him was a poor choice on my end. He did great though. You can see in the second picture he opens his mouth and relaxes a bit. Each time we started to hold a paw, we held it until he relaxed a tiny bit, released his paw, and gave him a stinky treat.

I’m a little late on some introductions. The first stunning fellow is River. He is a young German Shepherd that is in the throes of adolescent sheppy life(barking, leash pulling, rude, etc,). The second beauty is Eleanor. Eleanor is a Berger Blanc Suisse. A much calmer off shoot of American German Sheperds bred in the 1970’s in Switzerland. Eleanor is a sweetheart with humans, but has some serious problems with small dogs.
Last but not least, we have Willard! Willard is here to work on his anxiety, which is causing some aggressive behaviors. He also does cattle dog things like biting/mouthing when over excited, and uses teeth to stop grooming efforts.

A very common question I get from owners when a dog is here for Board & Train: “well what happens when…”

Nothing. Nothing happens when… because I don’t set the dog up to fail like that.

I train and prepare a dog. Baby steps. LEASH ON. We trainers, we use a leash a lot, and for a very long time, for a reason.

A leash is a communication tool, not simply a restraint tool.

I am not going to see what your dog does without a leash until they know what to do WITH a leash.

I am not going to see what your dog does when someone knocks until I see that they know how to act when someone doesn’t and just walks in.

I am not going to see your dog’s reaction to situation B, until I know they can respond appropriately to situation A.

When trainers do things in small steps and with leashes on, it’s because we are TEACHING. We aren’t running around, throwing dogs into situations that could be scary or stressful, hoping for the best and crossing our fingers which are subsequently sitting on an ecollar button.

How would you feel if you went to school, were told to do a geometry problem when all you know is basic math, then socked in the face when you get it wrong?

The LEASH is the ultimate teaching tool. It’s how we teach the geometry to the student who only knows basic math. It’s how we communicate.

If your dog can’t do it ON a leash, your dog can’t do it OFF a leash.

Put the leash on the dog.

Our Story

Who’s A Good Boy is owned and run by Nick and Jen Seabrook — a husband and wife team who turned a passion for building connections between dog and owner into a business that has allowed a community, new friends, old neighbors and like-hearted in-betweeners the tools and training necessary to strengthen their bond with their best buddy. WaGB training programs begin with the pet, but we — as a team — conclude all our training sessions one-on-one’s with owners to further support their investment in us, and in their pet. We genuinely believe that having the best relationship with your dog allows us those awesome experiences that last a lifetime.
