Team, we have agreed to take these horses if we can raise the funds. We will need to raise their purchase price plus transport and a bit to buy them alfalfa for their refeeding program. Can you help? Click on the link to donate to their fundraiser.

It's okay to adjust your expectations. It's okay to change your mind. It's okay to decide something you wanted doesn't fit you any longer. Allow yourself to change course. Life is all about growth and finding what truly works for you.

Have you considered exercise as a tool to help kids regulate and focus during the school day?

In this post, we review some of the reasons why morning exercises can be beneficial for school kids and talk about how that exercise might take shape. (Pardon the pun.) From biking to calisthenics, we have a few ideas to use as a starting-off point!

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

It’s been a while since we’ve shared a recipe, so here’s a delicious option for summer: Blackberry Crisp! This is a classic summer dessert we like with freshly-picked blackberries and vanilla ice cream. Try it out this month and let us know if your family enjoyed it!

One of the many perks of incorporating groundwork into your equine lesson program: it can be practiced in more casual attire, including shorts!

This might be relevant if you too are seeing posts about “Excessive Heat Warning!!!!” circulating in your feed. Surely we are not the only ones experiencing above-average temperatures this summer? 🥵

The HorseCentered curriculum is the perfect seasonal complement to a riding lesson program, because it is SO flexible. Practice indoors or outdoors, with five horses or one horse. There are actually a handful of HorseCentered lesson plans that can be taught without equine participation, if leaving a climate-controlled space is not a reasonable option.

Can’t make space in your schedule for designated groundwork classes? No sweat. (Okay, maybe a bit of sweat - but less than usual!) Have students spend the first half of the lesson playing on the ground, then hop on for a ba****ck ride. (Trust us, 20-30 minutes of ba****ck practice is PLENTY in a heat wave.)

You can help everyone keep their cool while teaching students important training skills and ways to have fun with their horse out of the saddle. Win, win, win. 🩷🤍💛

🌱 Nurturing minds, cultivating futures 🌿 Teaching children the origins of their food is like planting seeds of knowledge that flourish into a lifetime of understanding and appreciation. Incorporating gardening into their schooling not only connects them with nature but also instills invaluable life skills. From learning about soil health to understanding the lifecycle of plants, every step in the gardening journey fosters curiosity and critical thinking.

🍅 Growing their own food empowers children to make healthier choices, as they witness firsthand the effort and care required to produce nourishing fruits and vegetables. Moreover, it fosters a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the environment, as they comprehend the impact of sustainable practices on our planet.

🌻 Beyond the physical act of gardening, it cultivates patience, resilience, and a sense of achievement. Watching a tiny seed transform into a thriving plant teaches them the beauty of growth and the rewards of perseverance. Plus, getting their hands dirty outdoors promotes mental well-being, reducing stress and fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.

🥕 We owe it to them, it’s our duty to sow the seeds of knowledge that will blossom into a brighter, healthier future. Let’s nurture young minds by teaching them not just what’s on their plate, but the journey it took to get there. Together, we can cultivate a generation of mindful eaters and responsible stewards of the Earth.

A few pictures from sessions we got in during the month of June. It’s been HOT so we had to work around the weather, which included some unmounted lesson time (that I didn’t get as many photos of unfortunately) and lots of working on developing our walk, transitions between gaits and halt, and rider balance drills.

Hippology and ground-based lessons this month we worked on projects, learned how to calculate the heat index, how to identify overheating in horses and humans, brushed up in our basic ground maneuvers with the minis, and practiced working the ponies through fun obstacles (like the sprinkler!).

Do you already have an abundance of summer vegetables or fruits you don't know what to do with? If done correctly, canning is a safe way to preserve many common summer vegetables like tomatoes or cucumber pickles.

But which canning method do you use!? Water bath or pressure canner?? Water bath canning is appropriate for high-acid foods like pickles or fruit preserves.

Pressure canning is the only safe method for processing low-acid foods such as vegetables, meat, poultry, and fish.

To learn more about canning and find sources for SAFE, TESTED recipes, check out the National Center for Home Food preservation: https://nchfp.uga.edu/
