Had a customer who sent us a picture of a brook trout, apparently just caught. It was not a picture of his fish, just a picture showing how he would like his piece to look. He wanted his brookie reproduction to look like it did right after he landed his fish, laying in the shallows. The time when you take it all in... admire the beauty, realizing you've just caught your personal best, before it is released.

This is a unique piece that sets on a tabletop.

Fred is our fish guru. He's been employed at our studio for over 35 years. I really think he knocked this one out of the park!

The Sandhill Crane. What a cool bird to work on! There are 16 states and 3 Canadian provinces that have a hunting season for cranes. Wisconsin has a population that is well above what is needed to have a season. State biologists have recommended a season. Unfortunately, "public sentiment" has played WAY too big of a part in the decision of whether or not to have a season rather than sound, biological practices.

They are doing substantial crop damage in many parts of the state. They are a thriving, renewable resource. AND they taste GREAT! When people call them the "Ribeye of the Sky", they mean it! I can speak from experience. No, of course I have not poached them in Wisconsin. I have however, hunted them in Texas, Saskatchewan and South Dakota.

I hope the powers that be in WI get their head out of their dark or***ce and do what is right... let us hunt cranes!

To most avid duck hunters the King Eider is the "Holy Grail" of their sport! Not only because they are so beautiful and unique but because it is such an adventure to hunt them. Most of the kings taken each year are off of the tiny island of St. Paul which is 200 miles out in the Bering Sea! These were taken with outfitter Charlie Summerville of Aleutian Island Waterfowlers Island X. I personally hunted with him last year. He runs a very well organized AND SAFE operation. Since it's not uncommon to be hunting in 10 - 20 foot rollers out in the Bering Sea, we wanted to bring a little bit of that part of the adventure into this mount.

The Chacma Baboon. A pretty formidable critter. They are very prolific in most of Southern Africa. In the wild, away from people, they are quite wary but can also be very destructive. One camp that I was in some time ago had the thatched roofs destroyed and wiring pulled out of outdoor lights by marauding troops of baboons! Many of the locals were glad to see their numbers at least thinned out some by hunters. I once drove around town with a mounted one sitting in my front seat, looking out the window. I certainly got a few "double takes" when vehicles would pull up next to me at the stoplight!

40 years ago this past Friday it all started! I thank God, my wonderful wife and family, exceptional employees, great customers and treasured friends that helped “it all” get to this point! They ALL played a huge part! I would not have been able to do it without any of them! I am beyond blessed!! Not only to have the support from all of them but to be able to do something I truly enjoy all this time. What more could a person ask for! And yes, I’m still going and still enjoying it!

An interesting way to do 4 big game pedestal mounts in the same space it would normally take to display 2. The base is made with a very unique wood called Pecky Cypress. The hollowed out areas are caused by a fungus. The fungus doesn't start to germinate until about 125 years of age! It gives a nice, rustic look to the piece. We have a limited amount of this wood available for future pieces.
