This week’s Training Tip 🧠✨ How to Teach Your Dog to Appropriately Greet: No Jumping Edition.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know when a dog jumps up to greet, it’s a normal behavior learned from early days with their litter as a way to get mom’s attention? 🤔
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However over time, a dog jumping, regardless of size, can cause physical harm if greeting children or elderly adults. Here’s some helpful tips on how to teach your dog how to appropriately greet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💁🏻‍♀️ Tell all of your guests not to pay any attention to your dog upon arrival, especially when they are over excited.
🦮 Have your dog on a leash, that way if they get over excited, you can redirect their attention to focus on you.
👏🏻 Only reward your dog with praise when all four feet are on the ground!
