Should you allow your dog to greet other dogs while on leash?

It’s a question many dog owners grapple with. While it might seem like a great way to socialize your pup, these interactions can sometimes do more harm than good.

In this episode of the Well-Mannered Mutt Podcast, I tackle this important question. I’ll share the pros and cons of on-leash greetings, explore how leash restrictions impact dog communication, and explain why not all dogs enjoy meeting others.

Plus, I’ll provide actionable tips for managing these encounters and debunk common myths about socializing dogs and puppies. Whether you’re a new dog owner or a seasoned pet parent, this episode will help you make informed decisions about your dog’s social experiences.

I received this lovely email from a past client:

"Tala the Newf is now seven and has not been there since CGC training many years ago. To give you and update since CGC, Tala has CGCA TRICK DOG ADVANCED, FARM DOG, TEMPERAMENT TEST, GRAND CHAMPION BRONZE, OWNER HANDLED SILVER, DRAFT DOG, DRAFT, DOG EXCELLENT 9TIMES, now working on her Water Dog title.

Thank you so much for getting Tala off to a good start! You may recall Tala was not an easy qualifier for CGC. Your encouragement helped us accomplish the CGC and set the foundation of future accomplishments. Yes, you make a difference!"

I feel so blessed!

Ever wondered why your dog barks so much?

Whether it’s a constant stream of barking at the doorbell, every passerby, or just out of sheer boredom, excessive barking can quickly become a headache for you and your neighbors.

Here’s the thing – barking is more than just noise. It’s your dog trying to communicate, and understanding why they’re barking is the first step to managing it effectively.

In this episode of the Well-Mannered Mutt Podcast, I’ll help you decipher the reasons behind your dog’s barking and, more importantly, how to curb it.

There’s a lot of mixed opinions on this topic, that’s why in this episode I’m breaking down all the facts we know about spaying and neutering so you can make the best decision for your furry friend.

Turning Rowdy Rovers Into Well-Mannered Mutts!

Staci has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Cal State Fullerton, where she also studied animal behavior. In addition, she has done volunteer work for the Irvine Animal Shelter. Staci is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and has worked in the veterinary industry since 1993. In 2001, she began teaching puppy classes at the veterinary clinic. The classes became so popular, that many times there was a waiting list to get in. Wanting to help dog owners who could not attend her classes, Staci began conducting private, in-home training and Manners for Mutts was born.

Staci is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT – KA). She is also a member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), The Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT), The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA).
