High Country Horse Training Breanna Mood
Most of this summers content will be focused on Frasier's journey to the ATFO!

I have raised and ridden horses for most of my life, competing in many equestrian disciplines. I came to college to improve my horsemanship skills and pursue a career in the equine industry. Recently Ive graduated from Asbury University where I have trained horses through the Western riding program and police mount training. I love spending time with these magnificent creatures, working together t

o achieve our goals. I am dedicated to constantly improving my own riding and training abilities, and to helping my horses reach their full potential.

Before and after pictures ☺️ they look so good! Both with much better manners too!

Frasier gained some nice weight and muscle, and evened out his coat. Boy isn’t it shiny!

Finley built some muscle and lost most of his hay belly. He’s also come so far mentally, you can see that he’s terrified in the first picture, but has grown to love attention.

This summer was such a journey and I’m so glad to have done it with these two! The competition is flying up fast, can’t wait to see everyone and their horses together. The lucky people adopting each of these horses are going to have the best horses and community out there!

🧡❤️Finely❤️🧡

Finley has come such a long way since I’ve had him. He came to me with a lot of anxiety and nervousness. He’s started learning to relax and think through many different challenges. The anxiety is still there, so he needs someone who can see the beginning signs of them, step back and help him think through it. One he does, he is a very willing, curious horse.

Breed: Stock horse cross
Height: 15hh
Age: 5yr estimate

He can currently w/t and started cantering under saddle. He is doing well in the beginning stages of liberty training. It’s taken some time but he is coming around to all the spooky pool noodles, tarps, and things we play with sometimes. Loads well. After a decent chunk of time off, he needs reminded of different training pieces. The both of us had a month off due to my injury, and we have just now gotten back to where we left off.

Since he is very green, he would not be a good lesson horse right now. His little legs are not the best for jumping, and he doesn’t seem to want to. He still spooks, and occasionally bolts, so we’ll wait a bit to go on the trails. Finley still needs and ‼️advanced rider‼️ to continue his training. As of 8/9/24 he has 10 rides total with me.

Finely is THE #1 bachelor in the field. He hasn’t done well in mixed herds, so geldings only. He will move the big horses by just looking at them, but doesn’t bully or be dramatic. He is very kind. He is such an easy keeper, doesn’t get hurt, doesn’t need grain. However he is currently eating a balancer to build muscle and get some nutrients. His current field has little grass, so he has hay 24/7. I haven’t brought him into a stall while I’ve had him.

This horse is ADORABLE, and so sincere. He wants to be a good boy and I think I’ve become attached to him😂. I will do my best to advance him in what time I have left training him.

This would be his final required post.

🩵💙Frasier 💙🩵 - Final Required Post

Frasier is the BEST little english horse for the equestrian who wants to enjoy everything they used to do, without the worry of a hotheaded or green horse. He can w/t/c and jump, can trail ride at any speed, and lives to visit new places. He would thrive hanging out with the fox hunters, low-level pony clubers, or just being a reliable companion.

Breed: TWH x quarterhorse (not gaited)
Height: 15hh
Age: 12yr

Frasier needs an ‼️intermediate level rider‼️. He wants a consistent person who knows how to speak horse, and doesn’t have a desire to go higher in the levels. Frasier will make it clear to you when he doesn’t like something, but he will go to the ends of the earth for you if you listen to those signs. He’s very safe on trails and off property. He loads wonderfully.

Unfortunately He would not be best for a lesson horse. He has tried, and it is not for him. He doesn’t like new people or kids. He doesn’t like western saddles, or running very fast so he would be a horrible competition horse.

Frasier gets a nice breakfast and dinner, and a little nail polish, but otherwise a very easy keeper. His hooves are softer and easily stay damp, so a little thrush treatment and hardening liquid will keep him happy. Depending on your ground/footing and exercise schedule, shoes would make him feel like a king. He sits right in the middle of the herd, he will be expressive to his buddies but he won’t pick a fight. His current field has little grass, so he has hay 24/7. I haven’t brought him into a stall while I’ve had him. He eats a senior feed and balancer pellet. He did paw at anytime he was tied, but he’s gotten better, however he will easily pick the habit back up if you don’t keep an eye on him.

I have really enjoyed the time I’ve spend with his as his trainer and rider. He is such a good horse and will take care of you! 💕

After much thought and excitement, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve decided to change my social media names. Although I currently don’t have a business, I feel the need for a better form of recognition. My previous page name was enjoyable and descriptive, but it lacked a concrete identity. This is still part of my journey to become a cowboy where I’m committed to learning and exploring. At the same time, I’m training and developing a product: a practical horse for everyday riding. Training horses for the Appalachian Trainer Face Off is such a great experience, and as I build my brand and horsemanship page, I realized it needed an official name. I’ll stay close to the cowboy theme, and avoid the common “something horsemanship” for now. After some thought, this one has stuck in my brain for a little while.

High Country Horse Training

This name change will allow me to present myself more clearly, as a horse trainer, and reflect my focus more clearly. While, again, I am not an established training business yet, I will constantly be training horses and posting training processes and some tips and tricks along the way. Eventually this will help recognition and credibility of my business in the future. Of course with this new title, I will make a little logo that will be on my pages as well as shirts, and possibly saddle pads, and everything I own😂.

Picking these guys out, I told myself I would not be braiding their manes and tails. That lasted about a month. I thought about how I would like to keep their hair neat and clean, but it’s a lot of maintenance to keep them done weekly. They don’t have long manes so there wouldn’t even be a difference if I brushed them out every once in a while. My personal horse has the mane and tail that needs maintenance so I knew I would be caring for that. After a full spa day for Finley I caved. Frasier joined the party too. They just look so cute. This officially means I’m attached to them!

I’m thrilled that McCauley's Feeds is sponsoring these boys for the competition! They have been my number 1 choice of feeds because of all the benefits and ease. Finely and Frasier’s coats are starting to get really shiny and they’re putting on muscle and top lines so well. Also, we’ve been working on some tricks here and there and I love throwing a handful of the large pellets in my pocket and using them as treats! 😂

Two months with Finley down, one an a half to go! - Second Required Post

Finley has done a lot of firsts this month! What a good boy he has been!

What our goals were for June and if we accomplished them:
- walk through curtains ✅
- walk over tarp ✅
- open gate (sorta)
- get saddle on ✅
- ride clover leaf pattern ✅
- load trailer ✅
And we w/t/c and even rode off property together! So proud of his progress and willingness to be a partner. After discovering that saddles aren’t painful and he doesn’t have to buck, he has shown to be very lazy! I have to carry a whip while riding🤣 So excited for the rest of my time with him!

Finely and I were able to go to clinic by and work on some of our riding and training! This was Fin’s first ride off property, 8th and 9th rides total and he did so well! I learned a lot from JR about how to use obstacles to achieve control with your horse and some tips on training competitions like the or where he competed.

Finely (and Frasier too)will be up for adoption at the competition in August, so if you or someone you know is interested in adopting a horse follow my page or go to and remember, no of this is possible without donations! All links and websites are linked in my bio, and your support is greatly appreciated!

I’m thrilled to announce that McCauley’s feed is sponsoring us for this competition! I switched my personal horses to McCauley’s feed and chose to feed it to these ATFO horses for the summer. They’re really showing some results and I love that I can use the pellets as treats!😂

One month with Frasier down, two an a half to go! - First Required Post

In the past few weeks I have gotten to know Frasier and he is so awesome! While very expressive, he is very brave and wants to be a work hard to please you.

What we’ve done:
Walk, trot, and canter from voice and leg cues
Started working on consistent collection in the trot
Trot poles, canter poles and cross rails
Walk, trot, and canter on trail rides
Stands tied…. Not so patiently
Halters/bridles easy
Shows attitude in saddling and mounting
Will let you know when he is uninterested in a challenge, but will try again if you ask
Great for trailer loading
Perfect for fly spray, baths, and grooming
Does well in any turnout

He has always come to greet me in the field and loves cuddles!

One month with Finley down, two an a half to go! - First Required Post

In the past few weeks I have gotten to know Finley and boy is he adorable! While pretty skidish, he is very curious and wants to be a good boy.
What we’ve done:
Easy to catch
Patiently stands tied
Halters/bridles easy
Curious and thinks through challenges
Improving on trailer loading
Still worried about fly spray, baths, and the saddle
Does best in gelding only fields

He has become the first one to greet me at the gate daily!
