This so-called summer weather we're having? Neither Elbie nor me are fans. He doesn't really like being out in the rain and while the rain means I don't have to water my tomatoes, it, along with the below average temperatures, also means they don't exactly grow much either. Stoopid rain. 🙁

Elbie was not keen on going to the vets this morning. In hindsight I should perhaps have given him a larger dose of Gabapentin than I did, but I'm not sure it would have allowed them to safely get his bloods regardless. 🤷‍♀️

At 4.41 kg, he had lost a little since last time (about 200g compared to 3 months ago) but he has had a streak of not eating a lot, so I'm not surprised or worried.

Vet Catherine gave him a good squeeze and said his kidneys feel good and the same as last time, so that's a good sign. Since he didn't want to get part of his neck shaved, to not stress him out too much (and traumatise him for next time) the blood sample idea was abandoned in favour of me getting a urine sample when possible and bring it in, and if the results of that warrant further investigation we'll have to take him in to be sedated.

The funny thing is that I did actually catch him having a p*e this morning! The problem is that I was *also* having a p*e at the same time. 😆 Which meant I couldn't get to the stuff needed to (hopefully) collect it before he had already finished. So now I have the fun task of trying to see if the stars align again. Because he usually p*es during the night when we're asleep, or outside ...

But anyway, for now he's back home and has had himself a good cuddle and a walk around the garden.

Happy 13th birthday, Elbie! 🥳🐁🐦🪶🐟🦋 Even though your vaccination card doesn't give an actual date so we had to improvise, your ID chip has your birthday down as 3 June 2011, so that's what we're going with. 🧡

He was a bit slow to get going this morning, but happily lapped up a Gabapentin-laced treat. Since then he has behaved more like himself again, wanting to go out, eating and so on. A vet appointment has been booked for later this week as well so he can be checked out and we can discuss these recent developments. We don't want another wobble again in another week's time if we can help it. 😟 (Yesterday's one was more severe than the one he had on 26 May, where he was just "a little off", and there's nothing to say it won't escalate.)

Elbie tucking into his Lick-e-Lactulose before bed. Today wasn't fun for anyone involved, least of all the little guy.

Woke up this morning and could smell poo from the bathroom - he had done a really big one and not covered it over. His dad found some on the landing too.

He'd gone to one of his beds earlier and looked a bit miserable, and when he didn't show up for breakfast I brought out the Gabapentin. Couldn't find him at first, but realised he was on the floor. He rejected the medicated treat, seemed nauseous. Got his dad to hold him while I pilled him. After that, his dad put one of his beds on the floor so he could rest there, as he wasn't wanting to move around. And that's where he stayed. For hours, not moving, not eating or drinking. We checked on him ever so often, moved a motion detection camera so we could keep an eye from anywhere in the house.

Phoned the hospital for advice and except for monitoring we couldn't really do much. In the end we decided to keep monitoring him a bit longer (because he gets so stressed going to the vets), knowing we could take him in if things didn't improve or got worse, but in the end we didn't have to. Around 6pm the camera caught him entering/exiting the bathroom, and it appears he had a drink. He then sought out his dad for cuddles, and we finally saw him eating.

As of tonight he's taken his usual medication without problem and he seems to be doing a lot better, but I will be calling the vets in the morning to book him in later this week. She did want to re-check him roundabout now anyway, and now there's definitely something we need to discuss with her. 😕

#tongueouttuesday with Elbie, giving himself a good clean. A slightly too enthusiastic clean, it could be argued, but his fur is looking better now with medication.

He finally decided to come inside so he could have his nightly cuddle with Daddy.

Monkey loves keeping me company in the garden. Because he prefers being close, he's opted for the shade provided by our little apple tree instead of the bigger shaded patch a bit further away.

I rubbed some catnip on the stones. Didn't catch any crazy shenanigans, just two really chilled cats.

Hubjy assembled new bbq this morning. Cats have taken charge of the box, of course. 😁 Elbie was told to stop chewing on the plastic.

Happy Easter! There's a tradition in some European countries to have some twigs and decorate them with colourful feathers and such for Easter, and for the first time in many years, I've done this. The boys think I've got them a funny play thing. Strangely, they're completely indifferent to Christmas trees, but I guess those don't come with feathers ...

Did some gardening today. Monkey found a piece of the lawn that he took a particular shine to, but I have not the faintest idea why. o.O This went on for a good while longer than the bit I caught on camera as well.

Hello

We are Elbie and Monkey (and Daisy, but she passed away in 2014), two extremely cuddly boys. We were born in spring/summer 2011 and have lived with our humans since December 2012. Things we both enjoy include belly rubs (yes, really!), food and our humans. Elbie likes to go outside on adventures, and Monkey enjoys a warm lap to cuddle up and fall asleep on.

Elbie is a ginger moggy with a classic tabby pattern and long whiskers. Monkey is a Devon Rex-Bengal cross with a mackerel tabby pattern, slightly coarse and wavy fur and short whiskers. Daisy was a brown seal/colour point Ragdoll, about half the size/weight of what a Ragdoll normally is.
