Keeping Dogs Safe in Hot Weather

The RSPCA says that dogs are 10 times more likely to suffer heat-related illnesses from exercising in hot weather than from overheating in cars. Both are tremendously bad for your dog.

This is because canines have a very limited ability to regulate their temperature.

They do not sweat like humans – only perspiring a small amount through the pads on their paws, with their often thick fur coats meaning their core temperature can rise quickly in high temperatures.

Heavy panting, difficulty breathing, excessive drooling, lethargy and drowsiness are all key signs that your dog is too hot.

During extremely hot weather it will not hurt your dog to miss their walks, you can provide mental stimulation at home instead if necessary. If you are planning on walking your dog then doing so very early morning or very late evenings is best.

🐍 Borris is a cornsnake looking for a new home due to no fault of his own, he is roughly 4.5 years old and would require a minimum 4ftx2ftx2ft vivarium with appropriate heating, thermstat and UV. He is quite friendly and handleable

🦎 Mabel is a 4 year old leopard gecko looking for a new home due to no fault of her own, she can be quite nervous being picked up however once out and about she loves to explore and is quite confident! She would ideally need to go in a 4ftx2ft vivarium with adequate hearing and UV.

🦎 Biscuit is a 12 month old crested gecko looking for a new home due to go no fault of their own. They are very nervous and skittish to be picked up due to lack of handling in their previous home and as a result have dropped their tail. This doesn't cause any issues or affect them in any way - only look a bit different.
