I should admit defeat!

All the cats fall in love with this scruffy man.

EXCUSE ME SIR!! That’s my kitten.

Meet Nova, she is just over 6 weeks old. She was dumped on someone’s property at 4 weeks old. She has been a member of our family for 10 days now and she’s a joy to have. She’s not scared of the big cats or the dogs.

And yes the collar is big on her wittle body. But I have to be able to located her in the house some way. I thought I lost her when she didn’t have the collar on 😂

Next week is second cutting which means it’s time to bake and stock up. Because 2 loaves of sandwich bread and 2 packages of mini loaf bread will not last and we’re out of cookies 🤦🏼‍♀️.

This weekends baking list:

8 loaves of sandwich bread (I always drop 2 a week off with a friend)

40 ish mini loaves - strawberry, strawberry banana, banana and apple

Cookies - chocolate chip (if I have chocolate chips), no bakes

Making sourdough cheeze it’s too.

One of my favorite things to do to relax is Counted Cross stitch. My mom and grandma taught me when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I inherited all of my grandmas books when she passed away.

My favorite thing to do over the last couple of years is to take photos and turn them into patterns.

I started this one last year, and I have been working on it lately. It is a gift. It won’t be done in time for what I planned it for. But once it’s done I’ll gift it to them.

Any guesses on what it is? And if you already know don’t spoil it for others.

Sitting in the porch enjoying the sunrise. I have today off and the girls are still sleeping. But me being me can sleep in. Going to bake some brownies and cookies this evening. Prep for tomorrow’s long trip.

We’re slowly downsizing our Minj Nubian herd, only keeping a handful, and slowly bringing in more LaMancha’s. I found a great deal where I was able to trade 1 doe for 2 yearlings. I also sold a doe and will be transporting them to Silverton, OR tomorrow!

Yesterday afternoon was a sad time. I said goodbye to Sawyer and Shucky. I really am going to miss them. I had to keep reminding myself ‘it’s not in the breeding plans, stick to the breeding plans’.

On a good note they’re headed to the same home and will have 2 little boys to run and play with. They’re also the only goats there.

Amongst the haying and other animals. 3 weeks ago we brought home these 2 cuties for the older girls. We got them from a bad situation and they’re finally feeling better.

Yesterday after morning milking I noticed I had 3 gallons of milk in the fridge. So I made up enough bottles to get through Friday night, bagged and froze 130 oz and still had a gallon in the fridge.

You rock girls! Only have 2 girls in milk.

Next build up I’m going to try a different cheese!

Tomorrow night can not come quick enough!

I love hand milking. But 1 goat is my limit these days. My carpal tunnel release surgeries help with the daily pain but left my hands still and repetitive motions cramp my hands with sharp pain.

Well apparently my plug on my milk machine broke after milking on Friday. So I’ve been hand milking. My hands are in fire. Especially milking tiny teats McGee!

The company is sending me a free replacement plug but will take 10-15 business days. I ordered one too (I wanted an extra cord anyways in case this happened again) it’ll be delivered tomorrow afternoon!

I’ve learned down here that you need to beat the heat. Which means no sleeping in.

It’s only 10am but I’ve accomplished

Feeding my starter
Ripening Bananas and mashing them
Milking
Bottle feeding
Disbudding 1 baby
Feeding and watering goats, dogs, cats and reptiles
Mowing and w**d-eating
2 loads of laundry

Need to restring the w**d eater and then I’ll come in for a few before going out and working on the new goat field.

I have 2 dry yearlings. They’re only like 6 weeks apart in age. I know breed sand genetics play a role in things. But I must say I am more excited to watch my F3 Mini Nubian freshen next year than my Standard Nubian. I like to hand milk as well as machine milk and the teats on my Mini Nubian are more pronounced than the Nubian’s. Though I am looking forward to freshening both girls.

I thank Willoughby Croft for this sweet girl.

As a farmer, we often have to do things that we don’t like. I try my hardest not to use medication’s that make me waste milk. No, it doesn’t always work out that way if a human can’t drink animals can have it, but there are some medications where you cannot drink the milk for human or animal consumption.

I’ve had to do that a couple times this milk season already. And when you have bottle babies not being able to use the milk for animal consumption is really hard.

The 10 days that we have not been able to use milk from one of our does she is produced and I have dumped 760.9 ounces of milk that is just shy of 6 gallons of milk that I’ve had to dump starting tomorrow I will be able to save and use all milk from all the does excited for this then I can get the babies off the milk mixture. o

Kidding Season has come to an end. We only had 3 does due this year with the move we have.

Cutie - twins: 1 boy/1 girl
Nugget - triplets 3 boys
Mitzi - twins 1 girl/1 boy

We retained 1 buckling from Nugget and will retain the doeling from Mitzi.

Next year we will have 4 does bred for sure, possibly 1-2 others

Today is an at home day. We do all of our shopping on 1 day because it takes us out for the whole day. I was hoping to start putting up new goat fencing but it’s pretty windy. So we’ll be inside for the most part
