Last but most certainly not least in our “Behind the Brand” series, the brand angels, Rio and Crusader.

While these two special guys didn’t get to help in the bodywork journey, they’ve been the ones who got Hoof n Hound going from the start. Two of my biggest constants, and two animals that I will always credit in helping me to find myself and my path in life, they could not go unmentioned.

Rio and Sade, while you are physically gone, you are absolutely not forgotten. Thanks for being my best angels, and for making your stamp on the new bodywork business in our logo, with your horseshoe and puppy ears forever representing us: Hoof n Hound.

We’re almost to the end of our “Behind the Brand” series, but before we’re done, I need to introduce Mister Gil.

I’ve known Gil for over a decade, and he is a 30-something year old Arabian. In his hay day, he was a world champion with his Mom, who would be so happy to know how well he is doing.

Though in his thirties, you’d never know it if you went to catch him in his paddock! This silly little man still likes to buck, snort, and play his “catch me if you can!” Games each and every day. Bodywork has kept him happy and healthy, and moving around in his paddock with ease.

The next dog behind the brand- Kason 🐾

Kason has been all in for activities like practicing the basics of range of motion checks, stretches, and kinesiology taping. He is just over a year old, but with as quickly as he melts into bodywork, you’d have no idea!

Some of Kason’s favorite things include his Kong Wubba, racing around the yard, and play with his brother, Augi!

The next horse behind the brand: Manzanillo

Manzi was born in Spain, raised in the Netherlands, and moved home with us in July of 2021. He is an 8 year old PRE, who is restarting his dressage journey after mentally and physically healing from EPM and its side effects.

Like Bee, Manzi is confident and comfortable in his body and enjoys bodywork quite a bit; this makes him a wonderful horse to practice new techniques on! Thank you, Manzi!

Augi Dog- the next man behind the brand!!

Augi Doggy is my little mixed breed boy who I lovingly refer to as my “Heinz 57” dog. I adopted him during COVID, and he became my best little sidekick! Some of Augi’s favorite things are: walks in the woods, cheese, cuddles, and chippy hunting!

He’s an anxious little guy at times, so bodywork proves to be challenging at first, but like his sister, Star, he taught me the art of helping animals who harbor anxiety surrounding new experiences.

Dahlias and Daydreams aka STAR!

My baby girl. 3.5 years old and 15.2hh high, this little girl has taught me the art of working on young animals, and how to introduce these techniques in the most positive and unalarming way for animals who haven’t had the bodywork experience.

Standing still for bodywork proves to be a challenge for many young animals, but with patience, once they start to feel the results of the work, they melt into your hands like butter- Star is a perfect example of this!

Bee 🐝
The next face (…or b***y!) behind the brand

Bee is the most recent addition to the herd, but she was Patrick’s best friend long before joining what is lovingly known as the “Ranch Crew.”

Bumblebee loves bodywork, and has always been a safe and reliable horse to practice new or improve current techniques.

Her favorite things are: hay, ba****ck rides around her property, hay, her buddy, Gil, hay, and….oh yeah, her people are pretty neat too!

Time for the next “animal behind the brand”
PATRICK!

Most of you probably know this big guy, since he and his little sister, Star, are OFTEN the subject of conversation when I’m around!

Patrick is my guy, a 22 year old American Saddlebred that I’ve been lucky enough to have since he was 6 years old. We’ve gone through A LOT together, so it only made sense that he was an integral part of my bodywork journey.

Marcus is an 8 year old Great Dane who I’ve had the privilege of knowing since his younger years. He has grown into himself, and become a beast of mass muscle! When I started this bodywork journey, I knew he was one I was excited to get my hands on.

A common question I’ve been asked recently: “Can young animals also benefit it from bodywork?”

The simple answer: YES!

Both our young dogs and horses can benefit from bodywork just as much as the mid-range and older crew!

When our animals are young and still growing, they experience the aches and pains associated with that process. By keeping their muscles loose and body comfortable, it will allow them to grow as correctly as their conformation will allow! Not only does bodywork aid in their comfort from growing pains, but also is a great learning opportunity.

Our young ones can learn
⭐️ to sit or stand patiently
⭐️ accept gentle touch
⭐️ learn to accept and be comfortable with odd sounds (activator, massage gun)
⭐️ and perhaps most importantly, learn the art of relaxation!

❓WHAT IS NEUROMYOFASCIAL RELEASE❓

the ANMR technique uses a tool called an activator to locate muscle dysfunction using its rapid fire pulses over the spinal cord of the animal. After locating muscular dysfunction, using a combination of soft tissue techniques, this dysfunction is addressed so that the body may realign itself most effectively.

While this is NOT chiropractic, it IS a very effective alternative therapy to the manipulations experienced in chiropractic treatments.

This therapy not only can help with overall body alignment and suppleness, but can target problem areas that most of our pets typically experience (TMJ issues, anybody?).
