I know I did the right thing by putting her down, but it doesn't make me miss her any less.

I'm posting this here because I don't want to forget what happened in my baby's final hour. It's a little graphic, so if that bothers you, you should stop reading.

Blue was diagnosed with congestive heart failure 1 year ago. I knew her time was getting short. Every day it got harder and harder to get her to eat. She was starting to look emaciated. Her belly was getting more and more bloated because she was retaining fluid. She was on fluid pills but they just weren't working well enough.

On her last day she vomited black liquid that I think must have been blood because she stopped eating 2 days before. Then she collapsed in it and got it all over herself. She laid there and had a short seizure. When she got her bearings back, I cleaned her up, and she seemed to be ok. She laid in my lap and seemed content. A half hour later she got out of my lap and threw up even more black liquid than before, and collapsed in it again. She got back up but just fell face first into the wall and had another seizure. I cleaned her up again and took her to the vet and had her put down. I held her and told her i loved her until she went limp in my arms.

I loved her dearly and miss her terribly.

i haven't posted in a long time.
Blue was diagnosed with congestive heart failure a few month ago and it seems to be progressing fast. :( She is comfortable and still enjoying life, but some days are better than others. I won't let her suffer. It will be hard, but I will make the right decision for her when the time comes. 😢

I would like to share a story from Blue's puppy days.
When Blue was a pup of only 3 months, she chased a leaf into the street, and got rolled by a Ford Explorer. I watched the whole thing happen as if it were in slow motion. She ran face first into the inside of the front drivers side wheel. Her front paws were the only thing that was run over. This caused her to roll, and the back wheels missed her. I swear, while this was happening, we made direct eye contact. She looked terrified. I screamed her name and ran to her and scooped her off the street and she was shaking and I held her close to me and just started running with her to the car. I was wearing a white t-shirt and there were bloody streaks on it, and at the same time I'm calling the vet.
Nothing but minor cuts and scratches on her front paws.
Almost eleven years later, she's snoring in her chair, while I wonder how I could have ever lived without her.

I'm worried about Blue. Still limping. Her pain is in her chest on one side. She's been on an anti-inflammatory for a week and it doesn't seem better. She's usually a finicky eater, but suddenly she can't get enough food. She literally lays by her bowl looking miserable like she's starving. And she drinks water constantly. She is just totally not acting like herself. I looked up Cushings Disease on PetMD.com and I think Blue needs to be tested for that. There are 7 signs of Cushings Disease and Blue has 5 of 7.

Just an update: Tomorrow will be 14 weeks since surgery. She's running around like nothing ever happened. I try to keep her from jumping onto high things, but she jumps on and off the couch and bed just fine. The hair is almost all the way grown in, but you can still tell a little bit.

Blue had her final check-up with the surgeon, today. New x-ray shows all is well. She can have the run of the house, again. Another 4 weeks until she can run off her leash. The doc says it has been a good recovery.

It was 4 hours round trip for her check-up. Next time I think I'll give her a dramamine. She was fine on the way up, but coming home she was clearly getting car sick. Now she doesn't even want to move. :(

Blue's check-up went very well. X-rays show that everything is in order. Next check-up in 3 weeks. I was a little disappointed that her activities are still restricted, but that's ok, as long as she is healing correctly.

I took Blue to the lake yesterday and today. I kept her on her leash because she is still under restricted activity. It's been over 3 weeks since her knee surgery, but up until yesterday, she hasn't been using her bad leg except an occasional tip-toe. When I saw her actually walking on all fours yesterday, I was sooooo happy and relieved. It's been such a slow recovery, I was beginning to get discouraged, but, finally I can see progress. :) Hopefully her surgeon will loosen her restrictions at her next check-up tuesday.

i'm very discouraged with Blue's progress. It's been over 2 weeks since her surgery, and she isn't even trying to use her leg. :( i've followed the vets orders to a tee. i keep her kenneled as much as possible. she hasn't jumped, ran, or climbed any stairs. i know she's almost 9, and doesn't heal as fast as a pup, but she should at least be trying to put it down, i would think. her next check-up isn't scheduled until march 1st.

Update: Blue's home. She's very sore. No jumping or running. I'm keeping her kenneled as much as I can, to keep her for trying to get up or down from the furniture. She's never been kenneled, so I hope she doesn't think i'm punishing her, I just have to make sure it heals properly. Check-up in 2 weeks.

Update: Luxating patella, torn meniscus, AND a fully torn ACL. They just called telling me she is being prepped for surgery. I bet she is terrified. :(

I rescheduled Blue's surgery due to the coming weather system. Her consultation will be next Thursday and surgery will be early the following week. I want to get this done as soon as possible, but it won't do her any good if we wreck ourselves. Better safe than sorry.

I haven't posted on this page in years. Just an update. On 1/14/2016, Blue was jumping into my Jeep and didn't quite make it. She fell backwards onto the icy concrete and came up limping. She wouldn't put weight on her back right leg, but the vet was already closed, so i waited 'til morning, hoping she would improve over night, but she didn't. X-rays showed no breakage. After over a week on an anti-inflamitory there was still no improvement, so we tried a different vet and was told she had a luxating patella and a torn meniscus. Surgery is scheduled for 2/2/2016.
