8 YEARS! Happy Adoptiversary Skye!!
Time has gone by so fast. I can't believe it's been 8 years since I brought her home.
As many of you know, when I adopted her she was given only a few weeks to a few months to live. I remember Shelly giving me all the paperwork for her different meds and walking me through how to do it. She even trimmed her nails for me.
Shelly warned me that Skye had always breathed really fast when in a carrier, but I didn't realize how fast until we were in the car. After only a few minutes of driving I called Shelly terrified that something was wrong. I had pulled over in a parking lot to observe her and Shelly reassured me that she was ok.
It was a 5.5 hour ride home. I was so afraid her little hypertrophic cardiomyopathic heart would give out and I would have to tell everyone she didn't make it.
I was also stressed about the border crossing. I planned my trip around the hopes of it not taking too long. It wasn't as quick as I'd hoped, but we got through in about 30 minutes. I remember telling her story when I showed them her vaccination paperwork.
For the rest of the drive I glanced over at her countless times. I did have to stop for gas and then I checked on her and gave her some pets. Other than breathing fast, she was doing well. Much better than me!
I was so relieved to get her home. I brought her upstairs to the room i set up for her. Her breathing calmed down and she investigated her new surroundings.
She was only isolated from Abby and Niblet for a couple of days. Skye was over being in a room and was ready to claim the entire house as her own.
And now it's 8 years later. She's down one eye, but her heart issues are gone. The only medication she has is for glaucoma and that's been steady for years.
I'm happy to report that for the last few years she no longer breathes fast when she's in a carrier. She doesn't like it, but she's very calm in it. As a matter of fact I felt like she was Abby's emotional support cat last week. Skye had to go in for a vaccination and Abby had her yearly checkup. Abby is a nervous wreck in the carrier, so I faced their carriers towards each other in the back seat so Abby could see Skye. Barely a peep out of Abby.
Skye is healthy and thriving. I'm grateful for her every day and for Tinykittens picking me to be her human. ♥️
Thank you to all of you who have followed her from day one and to those of you who have found her over the years. We appreciate you! ♥️
