I love to lead my young horses off another horse for training. Some of the fantiastic benefits;
๐ To learn to follow YOUR direction and feel from another horse
๐ To see a rider above them
๐ Changing their length of stride if they are on the inside vs the outside and transitioning with your ridden horse
๐ A fantastic way to expose them to new environments and trails before you start riding them.
There is so much work we can do with our young horses to set them up confidently even before we start them under saddle.
This is one of the skills I'll be teaching at my upcoming young horse training clinic

Your young horse must already have a decent foundation and understand how to follow the feel of the halter before achieving this safely.
You also must have a very reliable and safe horse to ride
Joey- this video is at the end of his 4 week- restart training programme.
There were some big gaps in his foundation, very unsure of himself, unbalanced and some aggressive behaviour in the canter transitions and not understanding how to follow the feel in the halter and the bridle.
I'm so pleased with his progress. He went back home today a much happier horse, understanding what was expected of him where the owner now can be confident to ride him safely.

Itโs such a pleasure having the privilege to support these two on their journey together. When I first met Nic she had just purchased hey beautiful mare. She was pushy, had no boundaries and disrespectful on the ground. I LOVE seeing the progress, the commitment in this horsewoman and you can see for yourself the partnership now establishing between these two.
