Someone is getting some trailer training.
Tonight both Jessica and myself were able to get him in the trailer, stand in the dividers for about 15 minutes and back for the most part nicely out of the trailer. I can't wait to get him more time to get him out and about.

Big thanks to Louie for being the buddy and standing patiently in the trailer the entire time

When you didn't have the equipment just yet, you are super thankful for your wonderful neighbors.

Thanks to Mr. Stewart for coming and dragging our arena today.

Borrowed from a friend.

Recipe for raising a “horse girl”…….

You bring them home from the hospital and instead of keeping them home you let them breathe in the smell of horses every chance you get….

Then at a few months old you prop them up in the saddle and hold them there to just sit in the saddle….

When they are 3 they say they can’t pick up the horse’s hoof …you help them but then tell them they need to finish themselves…..

You let them lead the 23 yr old faithful gelding because leading the big horse makes them feel so proud….

At 4 yrs old you teach them that the horse depends on them for water, hay, grain….Dinner might be almost ready in the house, but ponies eat first …..

At 5 years old, when she falls off for the first time, you check to make sure nothings broken, wipe her tears, then you give her a leg up and tell her to get it done, because you KNOW she’s a great rider…..

At 10 years old when she doesn’t place in her class at the horse show and she’s falling apart, you ask her if her horse worked hard for her, and then you tell her that to her horse she is #1, and to keep riding, because her horse depends on her……

At 12 years old she comes home from school and tells you another kid said something mean at school to someone she knows. She then tells you she told that kid to shut their mouth and keep it to themselves…. Then she walked off with the kid that was being made fun of……

At 13 years old her friends at the barn are as close as siblings……they support her in her wins and her falls…..the barn has created relationships that are thicker than blood….

At 15 years old her first “boyfriend” breaks up with her ….. you can tell she is upset so you both head to the barn. She wraps her arms around her horse’s neck, breathes him in, and the tears flow. But you can see that resolve emerge when she’s cantering around the ring…. She tells you her horse is better than that boy any day.

You heard others say over the years…..

“Horses are too expensive!”
“She’s going to get sick from all the germs.”
“She’s going to fall off and get hurt.”
“She spends too much time at the barn.”

When she is a young woman and leaves your home, off on her next adventure, you head out to the barn. You thank her horses, you breathe them in, you wrap your arms around them because ….

Horses helped you to create a confident, self-assured, responsible, kind, nurturing, outdoors-loving, tough as nails, throws her shoulders back and stands tall, strong woman.

To all the parents raising “horse girls” keep going, you are giving them more than just riding lessons…..

My pony is making progress lol. Still not ready to try him out off property under saddle, so we've been working on getting him used to being led by another horse (as that is how we will start out)

He might be small, but he will grow mentally lol. Fingers crossed.

So Friday nights are our "fun Fridays with moms of mustangs" this is where we get together and play with our mustang babies in a safe but encouraging environment. Plus it's nice for us moms to have "barn" time with no kids lol.

Tonight however was very short as we just did some brushing and picking feet.

But finally a year and half after getting this little guy he finally outgrew his yearling halter lol.
I'm not happy with the color as it was supposed to be teal but more blueish lol. But it fits and we had to see how it looked on him.

I'm just happy he's finally growing enough to outgrow everything.

Oh and his new winter blanket (56-60 inch) is too small for him, so now to re-measure and find him one that will fit, not that he's needed it in this cold snap thankfully

Ponies were enjoying the snow today.
They even got to meet our newest mustang today

I love my Arabs and rescue horses, but there's just something about these mustangs. If I could have a whole barn full I would lol. Along with my rescues and Arabs lol

We might of froze taking pictures and videos, but watching them play in the snow is worth cold fingers and toes lol

I personally want to thank my boarders and students for stepping up and helping with the barn and horses while we dealt with a family emergency.
We are truly blessed to have the people we have in the barn.

With that being said I will be doing any make up lessons tomorrow (Saturday 12/30)

If you would like to get a makeup lesson in tomorrow please let us know so we can get you scheduled

It is so hard to believe that this scrawny, pathetic looking wild mustang is actually getting big enough to start working under saddle.
It's just a tad over 2 years old, and about 12 hands lol.
We seriously thought he was never going to get big enough to ever ride, but pull a cart.
Tonight was the first time he ever had a saddle on, and a rider.

Don't worry he will not be pushed hard as we still got lots of ground work to do and he still has growing to do. Mentally and physically. And then will be checked by the vet to see what path we are on.

But I swear just in a week he's grown so much. His withers are just at my shoulder if not a smidge over.

A big thanks to Stacy for giving us the courage and taking pictures and videos for us.
But got to thank Hailey as well, if it wasn't for her getting a mustang I wouldn't have my mystery.

I can't wait to watch this boy grow up even if it is only a few more inches lol
I also can't wait to feel his gait he looks so smooth

For coming out on this cold December day to read our animals.

Definitely some big insights to these animals.
There was things she said that there was no way she could know about.

We are definitely going to take what we learned today and use it to our advantage.

Thank you again Melanie for coming out

It never stops lol.
We have been super busy over here updating and improving the facility.

As soon know we took out our hay storage and added more stalls. We had very minimal lighting over there as we didn't need much to see for hay lol
Thanks to Dylan and Dad, we now have very bright lights over these stalls. So anytime of the day you can see lol. We also will have electric so we can use our heated water buckets and no more busting ice during the cold months. And the ponies will be able to enjoy fans in the summer time.

We also removed our old wooden stall doors that were becoming a pain to always open and shut.
Those doors headed to Indiana yesterday.

We got one half of the hay lofts done and will be working on a viewing deck here shortly.
Got more sand coming along with a new to us arena drag.

It might have taken years to get to this point, but seeing the improvements and where we can still make improvements make coming out in the cold so worth it lol.

30/10/2023

Let's try this again lol.
This time with the video

But horses have been inside since Friday because of the rain/weather.

Even tho it was still wet and muddy outside horses were more than happy to get out and stretch their legs.

I love watching them run.
And the only reason for snow to come is to watch them run and play in it lol.

To my boarders lol sorry but you're going to have muddy ponies today

Decided to skip the normal arena lessons last night and we went out back for a small trail ride.
Thank goodness this time was better than last time lol.

But we got kenley out for the first time off property(and not at a show lol) thanks to pilgrim for being a good boy .
Alyssa out on avenger, this horse has come so far with Alyssa.
Ali out on toby who was out for a Sunday stroll lol
And we got Ireland out on saucesay again
Last time Ireland had to dismount because saucesay was being a turd, but this time she was amazing. Acted like she been doing this her whole life.

We even got two of our mustangs out with them as well.
Mystery and sal got to go for a walk.
This is Sal's first time off property and mysteries second time off property.

Even the puppies went and had a blast.
The weather was amazing and we got back right at dark. Girls had a blast and seeing everyone form these horse bonds/friendships is priceless

Tis the season.
As much as I hate getting ready for winter, I am so relieved Knowing we have hay for the winter for the ponies.

But winter buckets are going in, hay is being delivered, barn is getting winterized and hopefully we will be ready for when mother nature decides to strike out at us lol

Our Story

It started in 1989, My parents had the opportunity to purchase the farm from my moms dad, “PeeWee”. So my parents upped and moved my older brother from the city to live on a horse farm. With my parents now owning the property it was time for them to give it a name. Being that their names are Joe and Terry; TJ stables was official.

We did it all as a family, started with horses that we probably now looking back shouldn’t of, but hey we survived and we learned. We did weekend camping, horse shows, 4-h, parades, humane society.

Realizing that the show ring really wasn’t for us, nor did we really enjoy it anymore, we switched over to trail riding and now endurance and competitive trail riding competitions. The “main” horse that was the “shouldnt” have was named “Sam”. You come to a few campfires, you’ll hear plenty of stories about Sam. However, because of Sam, our facility is what it is because of her. We are a trail/endurance/family barn. We have anywhere from 2 or more horses competing or just out enjoying the trails.

Terry and Joe are the barn owners and in 2017, their daughter Kristin came aboard as barn manager. Kristin attended The Ohio State University ATI where she got her associates degree in equine management and production. You can find her at the barn either giving riding lessons, training client horses, or out on the trails with her best friend “Louie”. Lol theres also a good story about louie, just ask anyone that knows him lol .
