When our dogs get to an old age and have osteoarthritis you want them to be comfortable and mobile as long as possible. A lot of research has gone into CBD and its safety and efficacy for dogs in pain. Dogs show pain differently than humans. In the wild if a dog showed pain they were in danger of being considered weak and potently becoming a prey. So what does a dog do when they encounter pain? They may not move around as much, stop eating, and be depressed. Some signs may include shivering, glossy eyes, and panting a lot. Lets see if there are alternatives to NSAIDs and other pain medications that can harm the liver and kidneys. Let's take a look at CBD.
Cannabidiol better known as CBD is really making the headlines, leading in research, and available over the counter. When I was growing up this was considered a dangerous drug and should be forbidden. The hippi's swore by it, cancer patients loved it, and the market was booming. Now 50 years later we are seeing some improvements that make it safe to ingest without the high. It is the active ingredient in cannabis which comes from the H**p plant and is now considered medical ma*****na. It was only a matter of time before it reached the dog world. The main objective of this study was to determine how the drug moves through the body, the safety, and how well it reduces pain. Without boring you with the specifics the conclusion was 2 mg/kg of CBD twice daily will reduce pain in a dog and bring enough stability for the dog to increase activity.
