I was contacted today about an African grey needing a home. There will be an extensive interview and bonding process so she will need to go to someone who can make regular trips to Hot Springs. These birds are quite the commitment. Message me if you want more information.

Getting the next bird in a couple of weeks. A cockatiel caught outside in Faulkner County. Must be an escapee. After trying to find the owners the bird has been surrendered to a fellow rehabber although its health is dodgy from what I've heard.. This one will probably need extensive rehab before it's adoptable. More info to come.

I'm on year two of trying to start a parrot rescue in central Arkansas. Financial setbacks where I can't get the building set up, problems with ground water leakage where the building is, and stress of trying to figure out nonprofits and required permits have gotten me discouraged. If anyone has any insight I'm all ears.

I try to only have two or three rescue birds at a time (plus my own two) until I figure this out so I'm not in any way considered a "dealer." I am not a breeder and never will be. Everyone has their own room until the bird building is finished and then they will each have their own aviary in there.

Two more birds coming in this month. Both larger and both need extensive training before I'd feel comfortable adopting them out so the fire has been lit again to work on getting legit.

Today marks one year since Tango died unexpectedly at a wellness visit.

Since then I have taken in two new rescues, bought a house, and started planning the opening of my own parrot sanctuary. I am excited for things to come but sad that my little fruit chicken can't share it with me. He would have loved this year's quarantine...

Words cannot describe today. This morning I took Tango for a wellness check at the vet. As we walked in the door he greeted everyone with a "Hey Baby". We trimmed nails and beak but when they went to do a blood draw we could tell something was off. He wouldn't clot. They took him to the back, they said to hold pressure on the wound. He was brought back to me but he wouldn't stand up so they took him back. They came to get me about 10 minutes later and I arrived in time to see them start CPR and intubate him. By that point, he was pretty much gone. It feels like I'm watching a really bad movie. I just can't comprehend how the lively little fluff ball is now gone. I do not blame the vet though she does. They did everything they could. I turned him over to them for an autopsy and told her to learn from him. Maybe this won't happen to someone else. I'm trying not to blame myself. I know there was nothing any of us could have done differently. I don't really miss him yet. Doesn't seem real. Can I wake up now?
