Hey y’all!
I think it’s time I start up our live chats again! I’m still debating the best possible time to set those up with my new schedule at optimal viewing times for you folks.

Because we are entering the Texas summer days and triple digits, my first topic is of course, Heat Safety! Then I’ll cover fireworks again because we’re a month away from the Fourth of July. I’ll likely even cover how we safely introduced Kanan into our home with dogs.
Are there other topics y’all would like to talk about or information on?

Having well trained dogs before having our son has made all the difference in how easy it is to safely coexist. Especially when we’re sleep deprived.
Ahsoka, our young Malinois, happens to be our only dog currently interested in the baby. Our older dogs have no experience with small crying babies and would rather avoid him. Which is perfectly fine with me, they’ll never be forced to interact with him. It’s just a huge relief knowing that Ahsoka understands our boundaries and knows calm manners in the house.

Primary commands our dogs HAD to know for coexistence with a baby:
•Place
•Crate
•Sit/Down stay
•Door manners
•Leave it/Off
We also created new boundaries with rooms in the house, and really reinforced not jumping up.
If you have small children or a baby on the way, or maybe you’re just struggling to find a balance for your dogs now, and you’d like to know how to make sure you have a safe home for your dogs to coexist with you, I’m booking consultations now! Just start with an application on the website!
We’ll discuss your home and relationships with your pups, I’ll answer questions you have, and then I’ll offer as much advice as possible to get you started on a better life with your most beloved companions.

Hey y’all, it’s been awhile so I’m here with an update on our new life!
We introduced our son, Kanan Ryder, to the world on March 6th. We’ve spent the last 8 weeks learning a whole new life, schedules and routines have changed, and how our home operates is a little different too. I have been absolutely over the moon and in love with motherhood. Our sweet boy is absolutely perfect.
Now that we have a better understanding of how parenting works for us, and our dogs have been able to adjust to a new person in their home, it’s time for me to move back into training! I’ve definitely missed working with a lot of you and your pups.
I’m going through our emails finally and I have received a handful of applications and messages while we were out. I’ll be going through those and reaching out this week.

At this time, I am not able to offer board and trains or in-home lessons.
However, I am now offering video programs and consultations on Tuesday and Friday evenings. If absolutely necessary, I can offer Wednesday sessions as well.
If you have questions or concerns about your dogs behavior, whether old or new, or maybe you have a new puppy or dog that you’ve brought home and you’d like to get started on a good note, a consultation where I can answer and address any problems can be helpful. I can offer advice and tips to get you started training or fixing areas in your dogs life on your own.
From there if we decide you need more help, a video program can help with puppies and basic obedience training.

If there’s more serious behavioral issues at hand or you’d like a more hands on approach with a trainer, I’m more than happy to recommend my partners at Arkhein K9 LLC. We’ve done lots of work together and I trust them with my personal dogs, so I know you’re in great hands.

Thanks for all the love and patience the last few months and I really look forward to seeing yall again! 🖤

Hey y’all!
We hope you enjoyed your holiday and hope it was filled with as much joy and laughter as ours was.
This year, I have worked with so many awesome dogs and owners. It’s really been such a pleasure for me to see relationships, homes, and dog lives improve through training.
If you saw my last post a few months ago, you know that Brody and I are expecting a new member to our family. We could not be more overjoyed and ready for our son to be here in just a couple months. In that post, I also stated we would be working through February if possible.
However, I come with a heavy heart and sad news for this post. Pregnancy has limited my capacity to train at the higher standards I expect for my clients the further along I get. Because of this, I felt it best that moving forward, we will no longer be accepting new clients and all training programs will be closed. I am finishing up lessons with all our current clients in the next couple of weeks. I will leave this FB page active for anyone that wants to reach out for advice and any posts I have planned in the future.

I am so grateful for all the clients we have met that have become good friends. I have LOVED all of your dogs. 2023 was a great year for BCK9 Academy. You may see us again in the future, but for now, our devotion is to our growing family. 2024 has greater things ahead for us and we could not be happier.🖤

So much love for all of you and your puppers. Keep training!

I know I haven’t posted all the new dogs and trainings I’m up to lately! But I’m here with a HUGE update!

Yes, we ARE expecting a new little human next year and we are SO ecstatic about being parents!
Our little one will be arriving in March of next year and it means big changes for BCK9 starting now.

•I do have openings for training beginning in October. Programs will be more limited each month until February.
•At this time, we can no longer accept aggression behavioral cases. We won’t be taking any risks, but I can direct you to other trainers that may be of help.
• I’m also limiting our boarding availability. Training programs will take priority. I do everything on my own and it’s too much on me now to handle extra dogs.

The biggest change this will bring is the closure of BCK9 beginning in mid to late February. We are not sure if we will reopen in May for more training or not at this time.
I have LOVED training here in the Big Country. I’ve met so many amazing clients and awesome dogs. I’ve built some really great relationships and friendships through this training company, including my shadow and her family who have become a secondary family to us. However, naturally our sweet baby will be taking full priority and we want to give them the most care and our attention. I’ll still do my best to post about how we’re prepping our dogs for the new arrival and how they’ll be managed with a new tiny human.

I can’t thank you all enough for your love and support over the last two years here in Abilene. It has meant the world to me. If you ever have questions, please feel free to reach out and send a message, I answer them as soon as I can. Much love y’all! Go train your pups and it’s on to the next biggest adventure!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Pearl and her owner Joann graduated their owner train program!!
As adorable as Pearl is, she is a very stubborn, bossy girl. She would be a lot for most people to handle, but Joann has put in a lot of hard work with Pearl and they’ve come a long way!! I am so proud of all the progress they’ve made!

If you have sent in an application, but have not gotten a reply, please feel free to message me here! Otherwise, I’ll be taking some time this week to go through them and reach out.
I’m also going to be redoing our website once again and getting rid of that app which will take me a little time.

If you’re interested in training, please feel free to reach out here and I’ll answer your messages as soon as I can to get everyone scheduled.
We’re entering another REALLY busy time of the year with limited availability so don’t wait as my training programs will book quickly over the next couple of months.

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve updated things!
Scout and Dallas have returned for more advanced training. Scout has worked on tethering, place stays, calmer greetings, and working on the anxiety of being separated from Dallas.
Dallas went to work with Brie. He’s been working on place stays, heeling, greetings, and he’s also getting to hang out with some new animals🥹
Rocky has come out of his shell! He’s been very playful and energetic about training. He’s settling well on the tether. We’ve let him tagalong to club a couple times to work around people, and he’s done AWESOME.

We had a lesson with Oliver today, not that it looked like a lesson because he’s such a goofball. This big guy came to stay with me for a couple weeks while his owners were on vacation and we did some e-collar conditioning to advance his training.
The best bonus to our lesson; Oliver’s owners have done so well maintaining his training while he was a puppy and keeping structure in their home. They were confident that it was time for a new puppy and brought home this ADORABLE little man. Draco (😍) is a 3 month old Golden Retriever! We will be seeing him at the end of July for some puppy training!

Y’all say hello to our newest board and train, Rocky!
Rocky is here for some behavioral modification. His owners found him as a stray and nursed him back to health. However, as soon as he was healthy, they discovered he had some pretty extreme anxiety and has displayed some reactivity and fear aggression.
While he’s with me, we’ll be working on building his confidence, some basic obedience, reinforcing more structure and boundaries, coping skills, and how to settle.
I’m excited to see how this dude is going to progress!

Oliver, everyone’s favorite giant puppy, has come to visit for some more training over the holidays!
His owners made the smart decision to use their vacation as an opportunity to send this big guy back for some e-collar and more advanced training!
We LOVED having Oliver in our puppy program in November at 4 months old. Since then, his owners have continued training with him, provided him with tons of structure at home setting him up for success. He’s now a thriving, well mannered one year old. Like most young dogs, he does have his quirks and naughty moments, but overall, he’s a real good boy and they have done an amazing job with him. 🖤🖤

01/07/2023

Hey y’all!! As the fireworks begin let’s talk about some real quick pointers to keep your best friend safe!!
Fireworks can be a very stressful time for dogs. Not only are they loud, it’s bright, flashing lights, and the smell can also be unsettling.
Fourth of July is the BUSIEST time of year for animal control and shelter workers with the high increase of missing dogs. It’s statistically stated that 30% of dogs that go missing will never make it home.

💥 Crate training is VERY IMPORTANT!! The crate is THE safest place for your dog during all festivities. Extremely fearful dogs CAN escape fences and have even been known to destroy doors and windows to get “away” from the noise.
-take off collars while your dog is in the crate for safety.
-use kongs, chews, and HIGH value treats to keep the crate very rewarding.
-cover the crate to keep it dark and block any flashing fireworks
-play music, dim lights, and close windows to create a calming environment
** if you do not have a crate, use a small windowless room with little furniture the dog can destroy or hurt themselves on.

💥 Use the day to exercise your dog extra. Whether that means a few extra rounds of fetch and tug, or an extra walk. Tiring them out will help them settle later.

💥 Use training something fun like clicker training or tricks as a distraction with higher value treats. This will help give your pup something exciting to focus on and also help desensitize the fireworks outside.

💥 Do potty breaks BEFORE sunset. Most people start around 7p with smaller fireworks. Try to keep your dog on leash later in the evening so if they do get startled, you have something to hold onto while guiding them back inside.

💥 Do not take your dog to events with fireworks, or parties with lots of people, knowing the fireworks will be starting later. These can be very stressful environments for your dog, and they’re likely to want to escape.

💥Ensure that your dog is microchipped and your information is up to date.
💥 Ensure that you have updated pictures to identify them if they do go missing.
💥If your worried about your dog escaping, use a tracking collar or AirTag to make finding them easier.

Four years ago, I had the opportunity to meet with Kbest in Big Spring to do a live radio interview about firework safety as well!! This was a really fun conversation and I LOVED the opportunity to share more awareness before Big Spring’s annual Pops In the Park.

30/06/2023

Here’s a live video I did about fireworks and dogs!! I’ll be posting another informative post later today as well!!
This is the time of year A LOT of dogs go missing. More dogs will go missing this week than almost any other time of the year. We already have a horrible stray problem and our shelters are already overflowing, so let’s not add to the problem!!

Fruit-bat Friday!! Sometimes after training, we stop at Fox Coffee to treat ME for a job well done . **click reward** 😂😂
Ahsoka loves to try and steal my coffee, it is her favorite 😂
But also, I love to point out that when we drive, Ahsoka holds my hand/arm like this. She actually does this because she wants me to keep rubbing her chest/belly, but I’ll pretend it’s because she loves me. 😂
Ahsoka does often ride loose in the truck with me, rather than being crated which is usually the best place for a dog. However, I am a young female and I travel across west Texas, sometimes I find myself in places alone, late at night and I have been approached by shady types. I have never been so thankful to have a dog on a late night stop for gas, because she has been a deterrent several times.
For all that, I did have to teach my young, wild Malinois calm manners in the truck for obvious safety reasons. Part of that happened to be belly rubs like that for being chill and it worked for us.
((Also note, I AM parked enjoying my cold brew answering messages and not driving, which is why I was able to capture the moment so don’t come for me being a bad driver 😂😂))

Hey y’all!! We are officially back from our vacation! I got to spend the weekend jamming to some of my favorite bands in the Texas heat at SoWhat music festival and then spent majority of yesterday pretty sick. 😅😅
Now that I’m awake and feeling much better, I’m getting back to all the messages I missed and scheduling evals for the next couple of weeks.
July is already booked up for the month, and I’ll be scheduling August next! Get in while you can, September and October will be trial heavy again and boarding options will be very limited! Then we’ll be moving on to our holiday season.
I’m happy to be back to training! Mazyn and I look forward to seeing y’all soon!!

Since I missed the last two Fridays, here’s a whole video with proof that her ears aren’t her only fruit-bat features. Ahsoka actually loves fruit! I’ve been introducing her to fruits and veggies as treats, ever since she was a puppy. Blueberries are more fun to play with than to eat. She always has to double check if she likes strawberries or not. Melons, like watermelon and cantaloupe, are her absolute favorite. She also really likes mangoes and dragonfruit! I don’t have videos, but she doesn’t like bananas, but does enjoy apples and peaches occasionally.
I haven’t tried citrus fruits yet, as they’re safe, but only in very small amounts.
Remember to always research before feeding new foods to ensure it’s dog safe and not toxic.
((🚨ALWAYS AVOID FEEDING GRAPES!))
Feed only in moderation. Dogs don’t digest fruit and veggies the way we do, and typically need them broken down (puréed or steamed) for nutrients to be digested, but every now and then as a treat is okay.

P.S. we just ignore my coffee mess on the counter during breakfast 🤫😂😂

Y’all say hello to the newest owner train pack: Joseph, Delilah, Samson, and Jericho!

Joseph is a stray that showed up to his new home a couple weeks ago. Now that he’s healing, we’re going to make sure he gets started on the best paw in his new home by building his confidence and adding in structure. We’re also going to work on his bad habit of chasing the house cat.
Their owners are going to learn about training and also how to implement structure and boundaries into their home to manage a multi-dog pack and integrate a new dog smoothly.

Hey y’all! Just posting a little update!
Summer is a VERY busy time of the year for me. Currently, June is fully booked for boarding. In fact, I had 5 dogs drop off today and we’ll have one more coming in as well.
In the last week, I’ve had FIVE consultations for training! Boarding, board and trains, AND owner train programs are currently full. July will be booked soon as well. (Clients, if you need holiday boarding, message me ASAP)
At this time, I have several owners in programs, and I like to give my clients most of my time.
As I am only one woman running this show, I am being stretched thin and keeping up with things is hard! Sometimes it takes me time to catch up on messages or calls pouring in, so I GREATLY appreciate everyone’s patience!
Moving forward, I will be unable to schedule regular in-home consultations in June to spend more time working with my current clients, dogs in boarding, and my own personal dogs. I am available to schedule phone consultations as needed for clients interested in future programs.

I LOVE the word of mouth referrals and all the love BCK9 Academy has received lately. I absolutely ADORE my clients and I want to continue helping as many owners as I can. I appreciate all of you tremendously!

How is everyone else enjoying all this rain?
Ahsoka is having the time of her life. I know why I trained her in all sorts of weather as a young puppy to condition her… but I MIGHT be having some regrets now 😂😂😂

I do absolutely enjoy all the rain we’re getting and my yard is looking SO much better than it has been (minus the running trail lines Ahsoka has created😅). The biggest downside to the weather is of course dogs and the mud they bring in. 🙃

About BCK9

My name is Kylie Farmer. I’m a certified advanced obedience trainer and behavior specialist. I have a strong passion for creating better communication between dog and human. With better communication and a little knowledge, the home life becomes much more fulfilled for the whole family. I truly believe that dog is man’s best friend. I thoroughly enjoy helping people change their lives around just by creating a well-mannered companion. Whether it be a serious behavior case, simple obedience, or something fun to do as a team such as trick training.

I, myself, am the proud of owner of five awesome dogs. Moxie and Dodge, 6 year old dachshund mixes. Mazyn, 4 year old cattle dog shepherd mix. Thor and Grayson, two year old American pit bull terrier mixes. Each of my dogs has gone through various levels of training with myself. Thor and Grayson went through the six months of training with me at Starmark and will often assist in my training programs with clients. They love working for treats and are eager to train.

I started my love for dogs at a young age being raised around many dogs. I’ve had dogs for as long as I can remember.. My “When I Grow Up” projects were always animal related. When I was about ten years old, my grandmother would take us to volunteer at the Wichita Humane Society every summer when we visited. We would feed, walk, and play with the dogs. It drove my obsession even more. I was in sixth grade when I wrote a report about training animals for the big screen. I was promptly told this wasn’t a real career and I’d have to pick something different. My dream of training fizzled, but the passion for dogs grew on.

A couple years ago, I began working at the local shelter, Happy Day Humane Society, as a kennel tech. I loved every single day. However, if we’re being honest, I wasn’t good at my job. Not because I didn’t like my co-workers or I didn't work well, but because I was heavily distracted. I was drawn to the behavior cases. I spent a lot of my time sitting in kennels loving on the dogs or coaxing the scared out of their shells, rather than actually doing my daily tasks. I also handled many adoptions and had a natural ability to pair the right dog to the right family. For me, the way the dog looked wasn’t important, but rather the lifestyle of the adopters and the drive of the dog. As more dogs were being dropped off, I noticed a common factor with most of them; they lacked basic manners and obedience. This led me on my journey to becoming a trainer.
