We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the Estes family for all their help today. Paula returned to town last night while Mandy loaded the van and headed out on transportation. The animals love to see new faces and the sounds of a new voice. Words can not express how much we appreciate the help and loving animals as much as we do.

UPDATE:
Layla and her pups are doing great. She arrived February 15th. She was a stray to the streets with her puppies that had just been born. She is an amazing mom to her babies and they all have their eyes open now. Layla has let us know she is not happy with humans therefore she wanted no part of us or anyone else. We are still not allowed in her kennel, but today she did finally allow us to scratch her ear through the kennel. We have to open the kennel door barely getting her into another kennel for our safety and feed treats anytime we need in her space to check on pups and make sure they have clean bedding. We will take baby steps with Layla until she feels comfortable being touched or humans in her space.

As most know we rescued 8 puppies from this stray momma dog back in January. We have tried everything in our power to get her off the streets and spayed. Looking at her you can tell she has lived a life of litter after litter. She was trapped at one time twice but an individual let her out of the trap before we could get there. She is street smart and very feral. We can not even count the hours we have spent trying to save her. The sad part is due to interference we have not been able to catch her and she has been bred again by 2 male dogs. We check her daily along with feed and treats begging her to trust us. We have had a lot going on and doing all we can for her.
The hardest thing for us to understand is why interfere and allow this animal to suffer litter after litter?
We are not giving up on her and will continue our efforts until she is spayed and off of the streets. At no fault of her own she is having baby after baby born to the streets. How fair is that to her?
We have never in 16 years of rescue faced such a situation as this would one, and we will not give up until she is off the streets and spayed.
Sad part is if she had of been rescued she would be spayed on March 5th.
Once we have her we will tell her story from start to finish and the hell we have went through trying to save her.

Please keep Paula and her family in your thoughts today and the days ahead. Her stepmother Shirley passed away this week and the funeral is today. It has been a long, rough week for Paula. She had two days back to back taking Larry to have a test done at Little Rock, The procedure he needs is not scheduled until April. The frustration of having to wait, while Larry gets weaker is enough to deal with. She then got word her stepmom had passed. Paula has been able to spend yesterday and today with her Dad. Today will be a hard one when they goodbye to Shirley. Thankfully Paula will be by her Dad's side to support him and help him. All the animals miss her. It always helps when she can see them all and laugh at them being goofy. Again, please keep Paula in your thoughts today and the days ahead.

Baby Face is ready. She did great at the vet. She walked from her kennel to the van, loaded up and rode with no problems. Baby Face came out of her crate to get her rabies shot. When we got back to MMAR, it took her a few minutes to get out. We did bordetella up her nose and she wanted to make sure no more of that. When she was ready, she got out, headed back to her kennel. Next time Baby Face, you will be on your way to a new life.

Big Day. The girl that arrived scared, trembling and with 11 sickly pups spoke to our Coysin Colleen. Colleen let us know that she would be coming to MMAR to get her and help her begin to jeal. Our sweet girl is on her way to Oklahoma. She will be in loving hands. Colleen and her husband Dave will help her know what love is. We cannot think of anything better for her than to be with them. She has come a long way from when she first arrived. Now, she will heal, learning that she will not be hit, kicked and yelled at. We love our Cousin Colleen. She and Dave have hearts that are full of love for those most in need. Dave will name her. We will keep you posted on our sweet girl's progress. Thank you both. Thank you also goes to LuAnne who came with Colleen to help. LuAnne has been a good friend to MMAR. A bigl day for this one in need.

MMAR has several animals looking for their forever home. We are currently taking care of over 70 dogs/puppies, not to mention cats, and equine.
We received a call about a mother with puppies that need help along with a pregnant dog that needs a safe place to be while giving birth.
We are at a standstill until homes can be found. If you are interested in adopting please send us a message that includes your location, and what you are looking for.

Sorry we have been super busy preparing for winter weather along with daily chores and have not taken any update pictures of Layla and her 10 puppies.
She is absolutely a wonderful mom. All 10 puppies that are about a week old are doing great.
Layla continues aggressive behavior towards us. She is a VERY protective mom. We have placed a heating pad in her house to ensure warmth for her and her babies. We have to put treats inside a kennel, open the door allowing her into the kennel and locking her in to change bedding, and check pups. She will take treats from our hands through the kennel. She has made it clear she does not want us in her kennel at all. We have noticed her tail wagging and at times think she is putting her guard down, but just isn’t fully ready yet.
We will do our best to get updated pictures next week of her and her beautiful babies. Layla had a total of 11 pups with one being stillborn leaving her 10 pups to care for.
Our goal is to help her settle, make friends, allow her to feel safe(there is no telling what she has been through), be able to enter her kennel safely, human touch, and treatment for her cherry eye.

When it’s 15 degrees outside and we are moved inside so we can stay warm. 4am we had a wrestling match that could be heard all through the house. Our mom got fussy with us for waking her up along with Paula asking us to be quiet. That lady is a tad bit cranky before she has her coffee in the mornings.
We are just glad we are still not out in the woods trying to survive. We received our first shots last week and our mom will be taken a spay date soon so no more puppies for her.
We are looking forward to next week with the temps in the upper 60’s and low 70’s so we can get back out to playing in the sun.

As most know we have saved many animals including owls, deer, pet snake, and even skunks that had decided to live on Main Street years ago at a restaurant, but today was a first for bats
Mandy was rolling tarps up getting ready to clean kennels when she noticed these two just hanging out at MMAR. Afraid they would fly into kennel we carefully removed them and relocated them away from all kennels.
We absolutely never know what our day will bring

Pickle received her toys from Ms Tracy for Valentine’s Day. She was so excited opening her own mail. She loved prancing around and showing off her new toys. She decided to share with Jacey.
Pickle says THANK YOU Ms Tracy ❤️

Who can resist those ears!?!
Today was donkey vet day for our family of 4. Dr Glover pulled blood for Coggins on all 4. Jill wasn’t excited at all and her baby Jack was scheduled for castration, but he is not quite ready. Jake and JJ were nervous, but handled it all well. Jake decided to slip through the fence and try to mix in with the minis but we caught him, received his vetting, and back with the family. He wasn’t near as sleek as he thought. JJ and Jack are very curious to the human touch. Those 2 are bonded beyond belief. All 4 have an amazing home and will remain a little family once ready.

Monday is vet day for these 4. All 4 will receive coggins and our last little guy will be castrated. This is a family of donkeys we rescued from Bastrop. Good news is they have found a home together so they can stay a family.
