We also help senior and disabled citizens keep their pets, including providing low-cost spay/neuter. We provide transportation for seniors and rescues to areas inside the Columbus, Georgia area. Beginning in 2013, we are working with Columbus in their community cat program. We maintain a registry of colonies and their caregivers. This registry allows free roaming cats a chance to be returned and offers the caregivers opportunities for free and low-cost spay/neuters.

Harris County, Russell County, and Muscogee County— Let us help your beloved pets! If you need financial assistance getting your dog or cat fixed, please contact us at 706.535.5838.

*This service is limited in Harris County and excludes Fort Moore. Most of our programs require proof of a current rabies vaccine, or the owner is responsible for covering that cost at the time of surgery which is usually less than $20 at our partnering clinics. Text us for more info!

We had the best time celebrating the wonderful humans who make up our village!

To all of our donors, fosters, vet partners, transport drivers, and the other incredible people who step up for animals in need — you are the heart of Animal SOS. We truly could not do this without you. And to those who weren’t able to make it, you were greatly missed and we hope you know that you are deeply appreciated!

We would also like to give a huge thank you to Epic Restaurant for hosting such a wonderful appreciation night and for helping us celebrate the magic of this community. Your support means the world to us!

See this cutie patootie here? You may remember him from our post a few weeks back when he was surrendered to us. Today he had to have mass removed from his rear end and we need your help paying his bill! The awesome vet who did the surgery recommended us sending it off for testing just to be sure it’s nothing bad, but the hope is that it’s benign and he can continue living his happy goofy life and find his new family soon.

From the moment we saw her and her brother at a local shelter we couldn’t get her off our minds. Betsy & her brother Benny have suffered from years of neglect, and unfortunately Benny’s condition combined with his age resulted in humane euthanasia being his best option. Betty on the other hand still has a fighting chance, and we need our team to rally around her to try to get her to the other side. She is resting in a foster home now and will go to the vet first thing in the morning. We will keep everyone updated!

With just two days away, we’ve been spotlighting the incredible programs we offer and the amazing humans and pets we’ve had the privilege to support.

Today, we want to share one final heartwarming story from our Owner Support Program—one that has brought us immense joy, and we hope it will do the same for you. We have shared about Mr. Jeff and his dogs before, but here’s the story of how we met 🥰

Back in December 2020, a kind man named Mr. Jeff came to animal control in tears, searching desperately for his beloved dogs, Moo Moo and JR. He was heartbroken, fearing he might never see them again. He left his contact information with the shelter and shared photos with a volunteer, who happened to also be part of our team.

A few days later, another one of our volunteers, who also works with animal control, received a call about two stray dogs that had wandered onto a friend’s property. She sent us pictures and it turned out they were Mr. Jeff’s dogs! A flurry of phone calls and arrangements followed, leading to the most joyful reunion. Our team immediately enrolled Mr. Jeff in our program to help get his dogs checked by a vet after nearly a week on their own, as well as to get them spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. He was so grateful for the support.

Now, four years later, we continue to assist Mr. Jeff with his dogs’ annual vet visits and food. Sadly JR passed away in 2021, but Mr. Jeff has since welcomed a new rescue pup, Bella, into his home, and we’re honored to help care for her too.

Our Owner Support Program often requires a coordinated effort between our dedicated volunteers, employees, veterinary clinics, and you—our generous donors. This , we hope you’ll consider supporting us and the families we serve. Together, we make stories like Mr. Jeff’s possible!

As we continue through the weekend highlighting the many ways your donation impacts the community through our programs, we’d like to share a special story about one of our longest-standing owner support clients. This post is bittersweet, as Ms. Lewis recently relocated, and we already miss her dearly!

Our journey with Ms. Lewis began many years ago when our director, Becky, was helping establish the city’s TNR program. Ms. Lewis was obtaining vouchers to have her community cats fixed and started discussing her own pets as well. She qualified for our owner support program, and the rest is history! Over the years, we’ve had the joy of assisting her with annual vet visits for her beloved pets, as well as providing pet food, preventatives, and more.

Ms. Lewis embodies what it means to be a community advocate. She cares deeply for her own pets and the community cats she supports, and she works tirelessly to educate others about responsible pet ownership. It has been an absolute pleasure working with her. While she will be greatly missed here in Columbus, we’re thrilled for the new community that will now benefit from her kindness and advocacy.

Meet Luna, a fluffy ball of love with a heartwarming story. When her devoted dad unexpectedly ended up in the hospital with no one to care for her, a compassionate healthcare hero stepped in. She reached out to us, seeking help to ensure Luna was cared for until her dad could be with her again.

Thanks to our incredible volunteers, we organized a schedule to care for Luna, easing her dad’s worries so he could focus on his recovery. Thankfully, the separation was brief, and Luna was soon reunited with her dad. During this time, we also helped address her itchy skin, updated her vaccines, and ensured she was in great health. Through our owner support program, we’ll continue to assist with Luna’s annual vet care as needed.

Far too often, situations like this result in beloved pets ending up in animal shelters, leaving heartbroken owners to struggle alone. We’re grateful for the chance to keep families together in our community.

When one of our very favorite people at one of our awesome partner vet clinics reached out about a client that needed financial help with a perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery for her beloved cat, we knew we had to jump in.

Carpet was having reoccurring urinary issues, and this surgery was desperately needed as a long term solution for his health. As we all know, finances are hard these days and the cost of a surgery like this can seem impossible for so many families. Carpet’s owner qualified for our Owner Support Program, and we were more than happy to aid with the cost of his care!

A few days after the urgent plea, we received this message from our sweet friend and vet clinic employee who advocated for this family -

“I just wanted to let yall know, Carpet the kitty finally went home today with his family! It was all because you all were willing to lend a helping hand. I'm favor greatful to yall!”

Just hearing that this sweet baby was back home with his family was the best news ever! We heard that Carpet is a professional biscuit maker, and we are extra glad we could keep him in the biscuit making business 😉 Happy life sweet boy, and thank you Amanda for connecting us with this family and working to keep them together!

Another day, another CACC med case! Can you help us out with Lola’s bill? Your support has allowed us to help get medical care for many CACC babies recently and we don’t want to stop! They deserve to be comfortable in their time waiting for adoption or rescue. Lola is at the vet today to have her eye checked out. They are also going to spay her while she’s there so she’s ready for adoption!
