Animal SOS

Animal SOS Animal SOS supports local rescues by helping with vet care and supporting fund raising efforts. We are an all volunteer group.

We also help senior and disabled citizens keep their pets, including providing low-cost spay/neuter. We provide transportation for seniors and rescues to areas inside the Columbus, Georgia area. Beginning in 2013, we are working with Columbus in their community cat program. We maintain a registry of colonies and their caregivers. This registry allows free roaming cats a chance to be returned and offers the caregivers opportunities for free and low-cost spay/neuters.

Thankful is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

The Hardaway High School CBI Program has been a vital part of our efforts for several years now. One thing they do that makes such a huge impact on our organization is cleaning our transport van after a trip up north and preparing it for the next trip.

These hard working students put their all into each task they do! In addition to learning life skills that could later help in finding jobs, the students continue to learn about all that goes into pet ownership, animal care, and why we do what we do here at Animal SOS.

We absolutely love working with the Hardaway students & teachers and we are so grateful to be one of their partnering sites for the CBI program ❤️

Temps are dropping, and our furry friends need a little extra care!

Keeping your pets indoors during cold weather is the best way to ensure their safety and comfort. If you must keep an animal outside, they need to have access to shelter that is off the ground and provides protection from wind, cold, and dampness. Be sure drinking water is always ice free too.

Let’s keep every tail wagging and every paw warm this winter. If you need additional support, please reach out. Between our programs and Paws Humane Society’s programs, we are here to help the community and their pets any way we can!

IT’S BECKY CARTER’S BIRTHDAY! 🎉

Becky is the heart behind every life saved and every pet kept in their home through Animal SOS. After years of hard work in her career, she “retired” only to work even harder for the animals in our community. And for 15 years she’s been doing just that!

Becky the reason we have such amazing spay/neuter programs, a driving force behind positive changes in our local animal services, and truly the backbone of all the work we do here at Animal SOS.

Happy Birthday, Becky! We’re so grateful for everything you’ve done & continue to do for the animals and the people who love them. ❤️🐾

What started as a frantic morning yesterday turned into a story full of teamwork, compassion, and quick action - and it ended with six lives saved! ❤️

A very worried pet owner showed up at our office with her dog, who she didn’t realize was pregnant, that had gone into labor and was struggling to deliver. Our very own Anna-Claire jumped right into action and was able to remove a stuck puppy, then got in touch with the amazing team at Macon Road Veterinary Clinic, who immediately took mom in for an emergency C-section and spay.

Thanks to their fast action and incredible care, mom and five surviving puppies are now safe and recovering comfortably at home. We truly cannot thank the Macon Road Veterinary Clinic team enough for always being ready to step up when animals in our community need them most!

Stories like this are also an important reminder of why spaying and neutering your pets is so important. Unexpected pregnancies can happen, and complications like this can be scary and dangerous. Cookie was lucky to get the help she needed, but not every pet gets that chance. Spaying & neutering truly does save lives!

🚨Rescue Relay: On the Road Again 🚨

In less than an hour, we will load up the van for the first of THREE transports this month! You read that right — The rescue relay van will be on the road a whole lot over the next few weeks and we desperately need your support to make it happen! With so many pups this load, we just need to raise $35 per dog to cover transport costs this round.

Every. Single. Dog. on this van was a stray within in our own community at one point. And while some days it feels like there’s not much light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to our local animal overpopulation issues…we know that the difference we are making in the lives of these babies’ is worth every bit of time and effort that goes into getting them here. And we know we couldn’t do it without you.
