Harry & The Fowl Lad Kelsey was rescued in 2010 from an awful breeder in PA by a nice lady named Tracey. She rehabilitated him for a year and then we adopted him.

Kelsey was quite mellow for a cairn terrier, but was as stubborn as they come. He loved long walks and wrestling with his peeps. Crossed the rainbow bridge 11/2020 age 14+yr
We have 2 mallard & 1 snowy call drakes born in March 2020. They are healthy, happy boys! Boonie, Cork & D**k. The newest addition is Harry, a ruby King Charles cavalier spaniel. He was rescued by a lady named Brenda. He was born in 2017. Harry has much to learn and even more love to receive.

Eggcellent news: Hetty hasn’t laid an egg for a couple of months. She molted, I got the new hens, and it got cold. Stressors. She laid today & I’m so happy for her. Flower stopped laying when I got the new hens. Stressor. She’ll be back soon! Carol & Nancy have been laying since I got them. 🐓🐓🐓🐓💕

I made a natural treat for my rabbits & chickens. The rabbits ❤️ them, the hens eat them. Lol. Ducks won’t touch them. Apple, banana, carrots, rabbit pellets in processor, rolled into balls, then rolled in oats. I keep them in freezer until I need them. No baking.

I named the new hens Nancy & Carol after female characters on the comedy Ghosts. The other hens are, also. There is Patience, but I have none so not using it. lol. I give the hens a grade of B as to how they are handling the change. Nancy wants to be top of the pecking order, so her & Flower are establishing the ground rules. I’m afraid Hetty will stay at the bottom. Carol is watching from afar and is trying to lay an egg somewhere but hasn’t found her spot. The hens are going to squabble until they find their place. Just as long as blood isn’t drawn and none are being ganged up on, it will take time for my flock to be cohesive. I made an executive decision to not quarantine the new hens because I don’t have a separate coop for them at night and once you put the hens together, they have to stay together. The new hens have no issues health wise and neither do my hens. It’s a gamble. If I had the room & coop space, I would intergrate them correctly. 🤞 all goes well. 🐓🐓🐓🐓💕

Please welcome Nancy & Carol to Fort Chix! They will be age 2 in March. They are RIR hens. They are finishing up molting and they came from a place that had roosters. The hen on the right will be Nancy because she is loud. My 2 are checking them out.

The DuckCam caught me finding Alberta with Flower by my side, watching. Flower was calling for Alberta when it was time to go to bed. Walking around the pen, calling out. Sad.

Alberta, the food N**i, passed away this afternoon. She was ok this morning, dealing pretty well with her water belly. I gave hugs & pets as I checked on her water belly. I found her on her side.
RIP Alberta. You were the runt of the flock as a chick. You more than made up for it since. I drew the liquid out to the best of my ability this past week. You handled it like a champ. 😞🐓🌈

My 5’ Christmas hen came back! She’s so cute. Harry hates her.💕🐓 🐾

Having chickens isn’t for the weak. Alberta, the food N**i, developed water belly. It’s terminal, but I can make things easier for her and she can live a quality life. Water belly can be from an unknown infection, genetic, overweight, or from a lung or heart condition. It’s when a water balloon collection of fluid gathers between her butt & belly & legs. She kind of waddles & you can feel the water balloon there. I had to withdraw liquid with syringe & needle from there. I am the least medically inclined person I know, so I did well! Dave held her like a football while I did the procedure. Interesting & effective. Yay YouTube videos! This will be an ongoing thing when she becomes uncomfortable. Lucky us. Otherwise, Alberta is doing good. 💕🐓
