Teaming up with Zen Acres Dog Training again 😊

Warmer weather means… time to get out with our dogs! Our first 2024 class is scheduled, and we hope you’ll join us!

Real World Obedience is a perfect class for dogs of nearly any age and skill set to simply out and experience the world, with their human. Different locations each week means we get to push our dogs’ skills in different situations and with different stimuli… this is the perfect class for those wishing to do therapy dog work, those wishing to bring their dogs on trips or to more public or family functions, and for those who simply want to come out with their dogs alongside other dog people who won’t get offended if you praise your dog for a down-stay midway through your friend’s story (IYK,YK).

Join us for some confidence and relationship building basic obedience training out and about in the Real World!

What a wonderful lesson this morning with Polly! We are working on some small reactivity issues and polly and her owner did so amazing! Ending the lesson with a short side by side walk with my own dog. Great job!!!

$35 per class or a package of 6 classes for $200.
WHO: Dogs must have an understanding of basic commands (sit, down, stay, come)
WHEN: Classes will start Saturday 5/27/2023 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Classes will run every Saturday at the same time in various locations
WHERE: Location TBD each week. Location details will be announced each week prior to class. Class locations are within the capital region and vary each week. Locations may include Lowes, Tractor supply, state offices, Colonie Center, The Crossings etc

Real World Obedience

AKC STAR Puppy class:
WHO: This class is open to all puppies 8 months and younger at the start of class
WHEN: Classes will start February 4th at 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and run every Saturday for 6 weeks.
WHERE: Class location is at The Crossings of Colonie. Some classes may have a location change depending on the weather

Real world Obedience:
WHO: Dogs must have an understanding of basic commands (sit, down, stay, come)
WHEN: Classes will start Tuesdays 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Class dates 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14, 3/28, 4/4
WHERE: Location TBD. Class locations are within the capital region and vary each week. Locations may include Lowes, Tractor supply, state offices, The Crossings etc. Class schedule will be sent before class starts and location changes may be made due to weather.

Maddy is a Rockstar! She's learning the place command so quickly. This will allow her to learn impulse control and how to settle down while around other things going on. This sweet, smart pup is growing up so quickly!

Meet Maddy!! She is 6 months old working on some basic obedience and puppy things. She is very eager to learn and even stayed still long enough to pose and show off her sit and down 🙃

Meet Polly! She is a super sweet pup filled with a ton of energy. She was adopted by her owners only a short time ago so we are working on relationship building and some needed loose leash walking skills. She's already showing great progress with awesome committed owners!

I have been MIA in posting lately but it is because I have taken time to focus on myself and my own dogs. Not recording, just being in the moment. All the hard work, stress, discouragement, questioning, confusion have lead to many light bulb moments in training for Riku and also myself. Reevaluating some training tactics for Riku and constantly problem solving to help train the dog I have infront of me. I am proud to say we have earned our Graduate Open title. I love this dude and the connection we have just keeps growing stronger. Let's see where life and training takes us next.

Riku earned his CDX title today in open A and took second place! I am so so so proud of my boy. It was not a perfect run but we have come so incredibly far! This is why the countless hours of training, stress of the trial day, the highs and lows etc are worth it. Growing a stronger bond with him every time. He is my heart dog.

Thank you to the Schenectady dog training club and all the volunteers for putting on this trial. Thank you to all the people who have helped us get to this point in our obedience career. And thank you Jess for recording this for us😊

I had to share this here. Please don't use lasers to play with your dogs! Issues are all too common.

I touch on this in my book. Pointing breeds, Vizslas especially, are prone to develop OCD behaviors anyhow. You don't know what's going to trigger light/shadow chasing, or if it's going to be the first time, or the 39th time that does it. But eventually, it WILL happen. It's advised to never use lasers or flashlights to exercise your dog.

Meet Cooper! He is a 5 month old lab, full of energy and highly highly food motivated. He is working on some basic commands and boundaries with impulse control to help him grow into a well behaved adult dog. He also poses pretty nicely for photo ops 😊
